I finished playing Resident Evil 7 and what can I say? It was AWESOME. Not just one of the best RE games that I've played but also one of the best horror games that I've played in my life. A lot of people were expecting it to fail because it was on first person view but at the end, it actually WORKED. Resident Evil doesn't necesarily need to have fixed camera or "Over the shoulder" view to make it scary. With the VR feature, it makes it the scariest RE game of the franchise. Before RE7, Resident Evil Remake was the only scare RE game of the franchise.
Many people say it copied P.T. and Outlast but the truth is: they didn't. First of all, P.T. was never a video game to begin with because it was just a teaser (Which is what P.T. stands for, Playable Teaser) for Silent Hills which was cancelled lately #FucKonami. Second of all, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 7 began its development in February 2014 and P.T. was revealed in Summer 2014. Also, Outlast is a first-person horror game where you can't fight back and doesn't feature boss fights. Resident Evil 7 is quite the opposite of Outlast. It may have some Outlast vibes which is running away from Jack Baker in the house but Outlast came out after Amnesia: The Dark Descent which inspires Outlast.
I think many of you will shit on me for this, but this game is better than Resident Evil 4. Before you throw eggs at me, let me get this straight. I love Resident Evil 4, it's one of my favourite games of all time and I enjoyed it a lot. But it didn't pretty much act like a Resident Evil game. Why? Because:
It focused much more on shooting and escorting Ashley Graham than puzzles and horror elements.
It didn't feature zombies. I did have fun with Ganados but some of them were annoying as fuck.
Many people say it was scary by encountering the Regenarators, but it isn't if you have enough ammo to take them out.
Truth is: we all can say it's better than Resident Evil 5 and 6. RE5 is pretty much fun only by playing it with a friend. But RE6? Do people actually prefer RE6 over RE7 when it's full of bullshit like Michael Bay explosions, plot armor for every protagonist, terrible boss fights, plot holes, terrible character development, vehicle sections, turret cliches, repetetive cutscenes and chapters, game/movie rip-offs (Movies like Independence Day, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Jurassic Park, Alien, etc. and games like Gears of War, Uncharted, Call of Duty, Ace Combat, Bioshock etc.)?
Conclusion: Resident Evil 7 is an amazing return of Survival Horror, that's how Resident Evil was born. It's my second favourite RE game. Here is my ranking of all RE games that I've played:
Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil 7
Resident Eviil 4
Resident Evil Revelations 2
Resident Evil 0
RATE: 9.5/10
At the end of the game, I was so confused when I saw Chris Redfield at the end of the game. He looks very different compared to Resident Evil 5 and 6. He looks younger, it's kind of disturbing. Was it really him or just a Redfield member we didn't hear about? The only ones we know is Chris and Claire.
You really should rethink your life choices when the guy whom has put 200 hours into Mass Effect: Andromeda is telling you that you are really wasting your free time.
