The Game Awards/Telltale Announcement + Gameplay?

The Game Awards will be hosted as usual this Thursday. Last year we got an announcement trailer for GOTG and a gameplay premier for TWD:ANF. Do you think Telltale have some surprises for us this year such as a trailer for TWDS4 or Wolf? Or maybe episode dates for Minecraft and Batman? Let me know what you think.

  • I thank telltale will game play of the final season of the walking dead.

To be honest, I doubt we'll get anything major related to those games. Wolf isn't due out until late next year, I'd be surprised if Telltale drops episode dates for an ongoing series at the awards ceremony, and while TWD is expected early-mid 2018, I think it's still a bit early to really reveal anything yet. We may get a new game announcement, but other than that, I wouldn't really expect much.

  • It's possible Telltale could tease TWD Season 4 or something similarly small, but I would not predict we get much this year at the Game Awards from Telltale. Telltale already had a decent chunk of their future announcements made during the Summer Update (Wolf 2, TWD 4, Batman TEW), and - assuming nothing is cancelled - we still have other games coming up later as well (GoT S2, Super Show). With that in mind as well as the layoffs/restructuring, I think we're at the point where Telltale is going to slow down and focus on digesting what they already have on the docket.

If Telltale does announce anything, I'd be surprised.

If Telltale will have a presence at TGA '17, they will tease it on social media shortly beforehand.

  • I don't think telltale can handle any more games atm and really hope they don't try.

  • Yeah, I do not want telltale to increase the amount of games every year, and I do not think they will do it after the big layoff so I do not think (and I hope) that they will announce a new IP. However I don't even think that we will see a trailer for TWD S4 so soon, maybe some more information about its realization. I think at the most they will give the date of the next episode of batman TEW.

  • Have they said something themselves? Will they be there?

  • I really doubt that they will show anything. Right now they are too busy with those 2 games...and possible engine changes which may or may not affect one or both of those games. But who knows.

  • I wouldn't count on it if they haven't teased anything at this point. I mean, they could surprise us, but still.

Will Telltale Announce a New Game at the VGAs Tomorrow?

Probably the biggest question I've been wondering since Telltale's summer update back in July...Will they announce a new game tomorrow at the 2017 Game Awards? For those who don't know, after the Telltale Summer Update, Telltale said they were going to reveal another project "in the coming months". That was back in July, and with the Game Awards being the biggest gaming related event of the year left, it makes sense to announce it there. Also, for the past four years Telltale has announced games there.

2013 VGAs: Tales and GOT S1
2014 VGAs: None, but only because they announced Minecraft S1 a week prior
2015 VGAs: Batman S1 and gameplay of TWD Michonne
2016 VGAs: Guardians and gameplay of TWD ANF

So anyways, feel free to discuss whether or not Telltale will announce a new game at the Game Awards tomorrow, airing at 8:30 or 9 PM EST, and if so, what game do you think they'll announce?

  • We already know that WD is coming before Wolf, so I think we'll get a Walking Dead thing and something else that's not wolf. Maybe a trailer for Batman or Minecraft but that would be a long shot.

  • Maybe a 30 second teaser, but not likely. We've still got two more episodes of Batman and Minecraft finishes in a few weeks. I'm not expecting any news on TWD till around February or March.

  • I'm sort of hoping for an unexpected surprise since god that batman reveal was soooo good. But just a small teaser for wolf or walking dead (especially since the collection just released) would be superb.

  • Well, with all the wildfires that have been spreading around southern California, I'm getting worried. Will the wildfires hit the Microsoft Studios, too, since it's located in Los Angeles? :/

  • Telltale have not made any teasers or indications that they will be at the Game Awards (which they usually would've done by now), so I would not count on a notable presence from Telltale tonight.

  • It has started...

  • New Campo Santo game!

  • Oh boy it started and I hadn't even noticed.. I guess I can take a break to watch it, see whatever's new with stuff.
Not counting Telltale to show up though.

  • I would be watching but I’m busy and sunder Telltale hasn't confirmed anything I’ll hold off this year.

  • Been watching for awhile now. That Zelda dlc though I’m staying up until that’s realeased. I definitely there will be no new games from telltale seeing as they fired half of their workforce to prevent working on too much.

This looks both weird and interesting. Please don't get cancelled like Silent Hills.

  • What the fuck did I just watch? This will either go down as absolutely brilliant or a bunch of pretentious bullshit. Either way I guess my Pro is going to be loving this.

  • Who the hell was that guy that kept interrupting the host? He seems drunk tbh. But I have to say it was kinda funny.

    He's video games' Tommy Wiseau.

I have no idea what the game is supposed to be about, but damn do I want it.

I was asking that a good chunk of the video. Like I said, it's both weird, but somehow very interesting at the same time.

    Dreams. Yes!
    MEDIA MOLECULE IS BACK BABY!

Looks to be some cool game creator given all the concepts and designs on the trailer.

Edit: This Hellblade game looks better and better. Anyone here recommend it?

  • He was the game director behind Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. His new game that they showed seems to have a two player focus similar to Brothers. I really liked Brothers so I'm interested to see how it turns out.

  • GTFO the game. Best title ever.

  • Congrats Zelda.

  • Oh I remember A Tale of Two Sons. It was available for xbox 360 a while back (still might be). Thanks for the info bro!

Sucks we got no new Telltale announcement. Maybe we'll get something by the end of the month, but if not, I'm going to assume Telltale's "Other project" was cancelled after the layoff. :'(

  • I would only assume that they are going to work on the three projects they've recently announced. I'd consider everything else on hold.

  • edited December 2017

Was there an "other project"? I re-watched their Summer Update, but there was no mention of something else down the line.
I wouldn't really expect any development on Walking Dead right now anyways, since their layoffs have probably hindered the amount of "teams" for each game. I'm betting there's only 2 teams: one on Minecraft and the other on Batman right now. Mayyybe 3, where there's another smaller one hashing out details on TWD, but minimal. Telltale wants to focus on quality work with what they have instead of spreading themselves out thin with their large quantity of staff. I think it's good that they aren't in a rush to talk about future projects.

  • The "Other Project" was shortly after the Summer Update. Telltale posted that they are releasing TWD S4, TWAU S2, Batman Enemy Within, and "other projects to be revealed in the coming months"

Any other projects that where possibly due to happen where likely put on hold since the restructuring as they now seem to be focusing on quality over quantity.

  • I hope this is the first game starring Norman Reedus which becomes successful because:

The Walking Dead Survival Instinct was kind of a terrible survival horror game (I actually enjoyed it) and it was too short.
Silent Hills looked promising, I wanted to be introduced in this franchise like I did with Resident Evil but Konami ruined the whole franchise, EA and Konami are easily the worst publishers, no doubt.

This looks both weird and interesting. Please don't get cancelled like Silent Hills.

  • What I hate about his new project is that it's exclusive to co-op mode, you can't play it solo.

  • HOLY SHIT!!! There is going to be a war between World War Z and Days Gone, who is going to win?

  • If World War Z is anything like it's movie, WWZ would lose to Days Gone like Battleborn lost to Overwatch. More story driven, less about fighting overwhelming odds and more about using the odds to your advantage, and more diverse ways to play.

  • Yeah, but the article says right at the end "the restructuring SHOULD NOT have any impact on PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED PROJECTS". TECHNICALLY they did say another project was coming, so either they're going to announce it soon, or Telltale is a bunch of liars and the layoff did impact it.
