Help me! I need honest opinions!
Was the Last Jedi a good movie? A good Star Wars movie? I'm seeing nothing but hate reviews ALL OVER the Internet and it's scaring me...
EDIT: Thank you for helping out, everyone. I trust the people on these forums a lot more than a majority of people on the Internet.

I’m seeing nothing but “best Star Wars film ever since episode 5” reviews and no hate
I haven't seen the movie yet, but anything with a lot of big hype at the beginning is likely to be a downer when people actually see it. If you want to see it, go see it, no matter what anyone else says. If it's not a big deal, and you'd rather wait 'til you can see it more cheaply, or skip it entirely, that's also valid.
Try Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is 56%, and I've seen nothing but 1-star reviews.
The critics love it. The fanbase blindly hates it. So it's basically the same reaction as the past two Star Wars films.
Sorry, can't help. I've never seen any "Star Wars" installment ever Honestly, it's been out for a long while now and seems like a lot to take in, so I probably won't get into it.
If it helps, my dad says it's pretty good
It was good. Do not look at rottentomatoes for ratings ever, cause that is Bull. Shit. Personally I find imdb much more trustworthy. Just my.opinion though. For me rottentomatoes has never gotten a single fucking movie right in the rating.
Anyhow, you should definitely see it. One plot is very dragged out and pretty unnecessary, and a few smaller things bugs me, but apart from that I really liked the movie, and I will see it again soon, hopefully.
My boss at work, whom saw the original trilogy in theaters, said it was pretty good. It had a few "Disney moments", like the pre-quels, where they try to grab an even younger audience than before. Other than that, he said it was good. I take that as a vote of confidence considering that we will never get another Empire Strikes Back in modern Hollywood. We just wont. No movie these days will knock you to the ground, kick you when you're down, and roll your limp body off a cliff, like how that film ended(metaphorically). I bet the movie is fine.
Just saw it yesterday, I'll start by saying I think the Prequels are complete dogshit and still hated Episode VII more because of it's mediocrity, now I don't have time to go into detail but VIII was not bad per se, but it's a very emotionally driven movie, the movie does not care much for internal logic as it does emotional satisfaction, so if you are OK with that you should enjoy it, if not you will probably not like it.
For me personally, I have problems with it but it didn't feel as safe and like complete corporate trash as VII but it's a more interesting product, I would say it's likely the best Star Wars movie since the Original trilogy though that's not saying much since everything else is crap.
I know this is an old thread but decided to comment anyway.
I watched it on Sunday and thought it was terrible. It was about 45 minutes longer than it needed to be because of a few useless side plots, and just generally felt unsatisfying all around. As a basic action movie? Maybe 2.5-3 stars. As a star wars movie? 1 star at most.
It's a rather terrible movie, but hey at least it's """progressive"""" and """inclusive""".
Stellar review by the RLM crew as always :
I love those guys, they call movies on their BS regardless of left or right leaning agendas.
I thought it was great.
Just saw it again today and my opinion went from good to great. I really like it.
In the first place you should honestly just watch the movie yourself and form your own opinion rather than wondering what other people thought, especially for a movie that's so divisive.
This forum isn't really any different from anywhere else on the internet, it's just as mixed as can be seen. Some people like it, and some people hate it.
I went and saw it again...I am in the love category...but yeah it is a very polarizing film. Disney needs to understand that Star Wars is not one of those banal Marvel films that need humor to hide the fact that every film is basically the same damn plot with a weak ass villain. Humor is great except when it is inserted into every scene relentlessly.
The Luke Skywalker issue...I thought it was brilliant...others thought it was a betrayal of his character. I would point out he had no character outside basic hero tropes. I think a bit of this backlash is that people feel butthurt that the movie did not use plots and scenes that they themselves had dreamed up in their minds.
Well do not worry gang...Episode 9 is being done by JJ Abrams....then you can all complain how the movie did everything you thought it would.
Star Wars fans...A wretched hive of scum and villainary.
I'd say Phantom Menace is about ten times better than this disgraceful utter piece of shit.
Now you are just being foolish and bandwagonish. But please do explain in detail why you think so...I want to see your well thought out criticisms as to why Phantom Menace is 10 times better.
Why should I explain my opinions to you when you just called me foolish? If you want to see some general reasons, go watch some of the hundred or so videos on YouTube that explain in detail why the Last Jedi may very well be the worst Star Wars move ever made.
Just came back from seeing it. It was a good movie (not great), but I could see where all the backlash was coming from. They didn't play the characters right; and the story was kinda a mess.
