  • I'll never actually leave the forum. I'll just post less until I feel comfortable with the layout

  • I'd only posted 5 times in a few months. I think I have other forums to entertain me.

Well... um... have fun in the empty forum? Cause everyone here is moving to DoubleFine. We've already assimilated the natives to our eccentric ways and will soon have subsumed the remnants of their culture into our own.

  • I have a hard time finding the new posts. That is an area needing improvement. Also, whose idea was it to go the threaded response route? What was the thinking behind that? What was the decision based on? Why do you believe it makes for a better user experience?

This was one of the best moderated forums around. I loved how the moderators were so on top of things and kept threads on track and organized properly. I hope you all at Telltale give them the recognition and respect they deserve. They always went above and beyond in helping keep the forum top notch.

I used to love being able to easily go right to the newest messages and know that topics would always be organized properly. Now things are kind of a mess. (Not the fault of moderators.. it's more about how responses are posted) There isn't the same flow to the conversations. Also, the pages load extremely slow on my iPhone.

Have you considered that you might have actually given us a "forum" setup that is inferior to the previous one?

  • I'd only been here a few months before all this went to beige, but, I wholeheartedly agree the re mods. I flagged more than a few troublesome and/or offensive posts/threads in my short tenure and they dealt with things in a very timely manner. No faffing about whatsoever.

That aside, the forum in general is ponderous to use.

Appreciate the kind words, guys. We're still trying to do our best, but as you can imagine, it's a bit tricky these days. Still...

I still visit. And anyway, there's a difference between a typo or mistake and deliberate, obvious misuse.

I don't see why you have to quit DFAF just because of one person. By that standard, Doodo should have caused you to leave the TTG forums a long time ago.

I personally had nothing against doodo. But that's another story entirely. From my present posts over there in the DF forums you can tell that I'm not just leaving immediately after 35 posts. Still, I don't need this kind of personal stalking shit in a forum which can't really ban its members as those have somewhat 'bought themselves into' the community experience. So, yeah, I'll be scarce.

I have about half a dozen regular forums; the Telltale forums WILL remain one of them, so I don't actually need even more. But I of course love you guys back, and I'll certainly keep an eye on what the former Telltale community's stampede does to the DF forums, big fat promise.

  • I like (wie) Bates Motel. It got me to cross off Psycho off my movie bucket list. The movie bucket list isn't on my movie bucket list.

  • That's why you're awesome.

As per the topic slightly higher, yeah, I had someone dig a bit on me too. It didn't really bother me. Maybe I even felt a bit special that someone spent a few minutes thinking about me(probably also helped that they didn't find out a whole lot besides my first name...which I then announced right after anyway).

  • I don't know about Double Fine.
I absolutely loved Psychonauts and The Cave, but Brutal Legend was one of the worst games I've ever played.
Even though they made some great stuff, they kinda have to convince me a little more.

...you mean, before you really honor their forum with your presence? ;)

They've done some bad stuff for sure, but the good thing about Double Fine is that they're willing to experiment and innovate, willing to fuck up a game just for having tried to do something new. Brütal Legend was great, almost on a Beyond Good & Evil level, until the ill fated RTS elements set in.

DF's being committed to making GAMES of every perceivable genre, and GAMES as opposed to 'interactive story'. Sad to say, I see games far better suited to my taste in Double Fine's future than in Telltale's. :(

Then again, DF's ability to work on a budget... let's not get into this again right now.

  • I found it. And It's useful. :)

    The problem is:

Imagine a fan art thread of 15 pages. I read all of them. I like the pictures, but I'm not so much interested in comments.
Now, I go on holiday for a weeks, and when I return there are a total of 25 pages.
On the previous forum I'd been continuing from page 15 to see new stuff.
With the new forum how can I do it? Should I check the whole 15 pages of mixed old&new stuff plus the new ones? Or "scroll to next new comment" for a total of 120 new comments?

And imagine what would have happened on the "Tales of Monkey Island fan art thread", that lasted with new things for MONTHS.

So you'd want to "skip to next new reply to thread" as opposed to "skip to next new thing"? In your example, since you're not interested in comments, all the new content you want to see would be at the end of the thread (from where you last read, which is not indicated on the site at the moment). I'm not sure how that would work from an interface POV, but some sort of line below which all top level replies are new to you?

Depending on who you ask, The Cave is either brilliant and shouldn't be criticized at all, or it features an insane amount of backtracking and becomes incredibly tedious rather quickly.

I'm in the latter camp myself.

The DoubleFine forums, on the other hand, are rather pleasant and have been surprisingly welcoming to all us Telltallumites, so if you're curious, have a look at the Universe Outside of Double Fine section, which is their equivalent of General Chat.

I liked it a lot (it's one of my favorite games). But, yeah I'll concede that they really should have made a multiple inventory system. There's no reason they couldn't have had an action button and three inventory buttons. I didn't mind the backtracking (The only part where the inventory swapping was a real issue was in the miner section and by that point I knew to drop the inventory item half way up so that another character could grab it so it wasn't an issue for me), but I'll admit it would have been a lot more fun if characters could carry more than one item at a time.

  • Holy cow! I was not prepared for what I saw when I decided to return to see what was going on after my departure a while back! What a terrible....uh...forum! I definitely won't be coming back any time soon.

For those wondering, I've moved back to where I've always been. SpaceQuest.net, Himalaya Studios, ScummVM, ResidualVM, Infamous Quests, and the SCI Programming Community. To a lesser extent Double-Fine as well.

    Farewell, Telltale.

  • It was nice seeing you again at SpaceQuest.net.

  • Eh the only DF game I played was The Cave. Basically my thoughts are its a good game. I have not finished it but its a fun game so far.

As for the DF forums I'll probably go there sooner or later but I'll still be visiting the TTG forums as well. I have been reading some of the threads (Mainly the KH and Greetings from the TTG Forums threads) :/

This topic seems sadly pertinent again. I'm registered at a bunch of forums, as I posted before (five years ago? Holy Monkey Bladders, time flies). But I'm finally getting used to Discord, so I can usually be found at the official Double Fine discord, since the arrival of discord pretty much devoured the forums.
