Says my account doesn't own The Walking Dead game, again.

This has happened every time a new episode has come out. I bought the season pass and every time there's a new episode, the game tells me my account doesn't own it and prompts me to go buy it.

    I'm having the same problem.

The opening screen loads up, says Click to Continue. I click, and it reloads the main screen, then gives me a message that says my account doesn't have a license for this game (which was purchased through the Telltale site), and asks if I want to go to Telltale and buy the game for a second time. Regardless of what I choose, yes or no, it reloads the main screen, and the Click to Continue button becomes unclickable, forcing me to Alt+F4.

This happened when the last episode came out, and I *assume* it will be fixed soon. But it shouldn't even be happening in the first place. It's pretty irritating that it's this hard to keep track of who actually owns the game.

*** Following up on this, I tried to get into the game again after posting, and miraculously it worked. Lets see how long it lasts.

    also having the same problem

And all my forums are buzzing about this being the "best episode evar", help me Telltale! You're my only hope.

It worked once and then I made the mistake of exiting the game. Now I'm getting the same error.

I hope I will be able to play the game I own at some point this week.

Unfortunatley, you never really own a game that calls home as much as this one does. DRM just gives the illusion of ownership as long as the servers are working properly.

I can get in now but it says coming soon for episode 4.
  • edited October 2012
I can get into the game now, and Episode 4 is there to download, but when I click Get it tells me I've lost my connection and to try again when I'm connected to the internet.

I am also experiencing the same issue. I have the Season Pre-Order and it states that I don't own the game. I can access the telltale store and see that I have indeed purchased the game. I have even tried to re-install the game and still receive the same issue.

I truly regret buying directly from Telltale as I have had nothing but problems.

same here. says i don't have a license and would work once i exited and started up again, but now does it every time. bad service for people who prepaid for this.

Also having the problem! Pretty sad... i've already downloaded the second episode but I can't get in to play it. Sounds like a license server issue? timing out because of all the people downloading new product? sad. I was fairly impressed with Telltale until now. Not sure I'll be buying any of their other stuff if this continues.

Any telltale staff read the forums or is this pretty much just selfhelp?

I had no problems with the first 3 episodes, but with this one, I am having the same issues as posted above:

Most of the time when I start game, it asks if I want to buy it. I have to ALT-F4 to close game, and re-open several times to get in.

Once I do get in, I click "GET IT" for ep 4, and immediately get a LOST CONNECTION message.

Very frustrating for those of us who just want to play the game... I hope these issues get resolved by tomorrow.

Walking Dead is the first telltale game I've ever bought and it'll be the last. Tried to go in and play episode 3 tonight and I get this message that I don't have a license for the game. As someone who DOES have a license, for every episode do Telltale have any idea how infuriating that message is?

Everyone who pirated the game is happily playing away of course.

I don't care whether Telltale fix this or not. I wanted to play their game right now and I can't because of poxy DRM once again.

I do apologize for the problem you are all experiencing. We are aware that a small number of players are experiencing this issue, and we are currently investigating a solution. Please ensure you have a strong internet connection and are logged into your Telltale account before attempting the download again. Also, you can try connecting to another network.

I do not currently have a strong internet connection I guess as my broadband is disconnected (until monday) so I'm going through a tethering system on my mobile phone. It's strong enough that I can download games from Steam and Origin and play multiplayer Borderlands 2 though. It's a 1.5Mbps down, 1MBps up connection but the ping is quit high at about 90ms. Perhaps your system could be made more tolerant of non-perfect connections?

Same issue here. Any solutions yet MattP?

I have a strong internet connection, currently DL 23Mbps and Upload 6.9Mbps and I'm still receiving this issue. I have checked the game ever night for the past few nights and it still says that I don't have a license for the game.

I have a strong (home) connection that was failing to play the game. Eventually after 45 minutes it was able to get signed in. I played through about half of Episode 2.

Lunch break at work. STRONG t3 connection. Got logged in fine. Went to play my saved game which says "EPISODE 2" Then it says "GET" instead of play. Uhhh. ok. So I click GET since it will take about 4 seconds to download on that connection.

"Connection lost please try your download again"

WHY THE HELL DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD EPISODE 2 AGAIN?

Ok. So I figure... no big deal... I'll deal with this later. I work... continue to customer site. Customer has redonkulous redundant fiber. (hospital I do IT for) Same result. I can connect... but can't download episode 2 with the error listed above. I try episode 3 and 4... same thing.

I am now hot spotting off my iPhone 5. CRAP internet connection.

    Same exact results.

TELLTALE. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO DO WITH THE INTERNET SPEED.

Shouting in case you are skimming so you get the highlights. Uhh... don't tell us its our internet speed. Fix your broken network/servers.

I can only agree with all others in this thread.

The Connection sucks. It needs at least 30 attempts to even get to the menu (past this ridicule message saying that I don't have the license)

On top of this, the download of Part 4 has failed so far. .. Can't even get it count anything above 0.0%

    This is more than annoying.

I now have a strong internet connection. Same issue. The game/telltale's servers/ drm is broken. No fix in sight.

My twitter feed is full of retweets from telltale from people saying how awesome the game is, gushing over how amazing episode 4 is. That's just rubbing salt in.

I'd like to ask here openly what Telltale's position is on me downloading the episodes via other means? You have on record that I have purchased every episode so if Telltale can't provide the files what's my position on obtaining them from somewhere else? This is a genuine question. I'm pretty sure if I looked I could find episode 3 and 4 and all the information I need in order to play them. Would this be ok? I mean, I own a license to play the episodes, it shouldn't matter where I get them from should it?

If you would like to try an Unofficial workaround, one has been posted Here.

Anyway we can get an official fix? I am having these same issues that I have had each time a new episode has come out.

No, I don't have another network there, I've only my semi-loosy 512 kbps DSL line... But come on, it's a point-and-click game ! I don't ask to play any FPS ! I neither don't mind to let my PC downloading an episode over the night, ... I'm patient.

What I really regret, is to pay for a game and can't play with it !

These issues are usually encountered for the first day or day after launch as there are so many server requests, that some time out. Please shut down and restart your computer and then try again.

Tell-tale as you are already aware allot of people are complaining. It also happens to me. It says I don't have a licence so i have to buy it(when i already have) and only once I have been able to get on but still when i try to download the episodes it does not go past 0 percent so please im begging look for a fix please!!!

I just had this same problem--doesn't make me feel great about having decided to buy the download last night rather than waiting for the disc version.
  • edited January 2013
This still seems to be an issue :( really dissapointing

Has anyone had any success getting their money back?

Okay so I am having this same issue.

I have a strong internet connection so that's no the problem but admittedly this is an older PC (but still meets requirments).

I have also recently reformatted this pc and it's working just fine apart from this game.

I have a new kick ass pc coming in the post in about a week or so, if it doesn't work on that pc this is the last game I will get from telltale

This thread was opened in October, so this issue has been going on for months and it's not been fixed.

I actually bought it on steam, yet the game prompted me to make an account because I 'Didn't own it.' It was on sale, and I've wanted this for a very long time! So I also bought the DLC. It worked for the first day I bought it, but today (Second day) it no longer lets me play, and says I don't own the game.
