[TWD] 360 saves corrupted

First off, I want to say that I have felt extremely let down in terms of support. I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of any communication between me and Telltale "support"

Now the actual problem. My 360 saves are corrupted. My saves no longer have my choices. They all recommend restarting at the first episode with random choices, even though I have beat every episode besides 4.

I don't know how many issues there are with 360 customers. But seeing a stickied thread for just PS3 Users and their save corruption, and that Telltale is communicating ONLY with Sony, infuriates me. This isn't just a PS3 issue, and I feel Telltale is handling all these problems with the poorest of customer service.

Please delete my other thread. I do not believe Telltale will look at it because I didn't put TWD in brackets for the title.

I also have 3 save files. But seeing as you are only addressing PS3 issues, that doesn't really mean much probably.

I apologize for the problem you are experiencing. You mentioned your choices are not carrying over. Do you have the Title Update installed? Also, have you completed all previous episodes by playing through the credits of each episode?

We are aware of an issue with saves loading from only one slot, is this what you are experiencing?

Alternatively, if you are experiencing data corruption, can you please attach the save corruption message you received?

I have no idea what this "title update" is. I just tried playing The Walking Dead and no update happened and the problem I am having is still persisting. I sat through each of the credits in the game. All the saves start from episode 1. I can select each one, but the option always starts on the 3rd save. I don't have any corruption message.

We released a title update for the Walking Dead just after Episode 2 became available. You would have been prompted to download and install this update anytime after it's release if you were on xbox live when you started playing the Walking Dead. Clearing your system cache will remove the update, and it would need to be reacquired before playing the game again.

You mentioned that the 3rd save slot is the only one that loads. We are aware of this issue and investigating a solution. However, this save slot should function normally. If episode 1 begins when selecting this slot, and you you had save progress past that point, then it's likely you need to reacquire the title update. Please make sure you are logged into your account and connected to xbox live before launching the game again.

Every other save can load. Its just when I start the game and go to the continue save files screen, the cursor always starts on the 3rd save spot. I can load all the others just fine, it's just that they all start on episode 1, point blank.

I'm more than a little worried that telltale doesn't know that this problem exists. It happened to me and it only took me five minutes to Google to figure out there was a problem. Are we really saying that telltale has no idea what's going on with the Xbox 360 saves?

We are aware of the Xbox only issue where no matter which save slot is selected, only 1 will load. We do know that this issue only occurs when Episode 4 is installed, and appears to occur when the last played save file has a completed Episode 3 save. Removing Episode 4 will allow other slots to be accessed, and it's possible that completing (or re-completing) Episode 3 on another slot will allow that slot to be accessed once Episode 4 is installed. We are actively trying to track down the cause of this issue, and once we do, we will offer a fix.

I can load each save Matt. All of them say I have had no progress in each one.
  • edited October 2012
Again, I can go into each save Matt. But each time I go into a save that exists, there is no progress. Each episode starts on 1. I can select each save slot, but again; each save slot says I have not made progress. I may be repeating myself here, but I feel like I really need to get this point across.

Please try logging out of your profile once you are in the game. You will be taken to the title screen. Log back in and then press Continue. If this does not work, please verify your save slots are working properly.

To do this, load your save from slot 1. Once in game, pause and return to the main menu. Look at your save slots and make sure slot 1 is highlighted. Now load your save from slot 2. Once in game, again pause and return to the main menu. Look at your save slots and make sure slot 2 is highlighted. Now load slot 3, and once in game pause and return to the menu and check to see that slot 3 is highlighted.

If each slot was properly highlighted, but still only loads episode 1, then your save games are more than likely lost. To ensure you do not encounter this issue again, please exit the game to the dashboard, go to your settings and then storage and delete the save game for your user profile. This will reset your prefs when you next log in and your saves should act properly going forward.

Is there any hope of a patch, or will I just have to do the workaround?
  • MattPMattP ModeratorFormer Telltale Staff
    edited October 2012
We are still working on patching this issue. Please note that the workaround is only a way to get your game back to a playable state and then maintaining this state until a patch is released. As long as you always exit the game through the Main menu, you should not experience this issue.

To remove Episode 4, exit to the Dashboard, tab all the way to the right and find the Settings, then Storage option. Find the Walking Dead folder, open it, find Episode 4 only, and then choose to delete it. Make sure you only delete Episode 4!

In regards to the workaround, you should still have access to 1 save slot, though if you would like to play from the save files on the other save slots before the patch is released, then yes you would need to use the workaround. Again, please note that the workaround does not modify or change any files, all it does reload the game to the same state it was in before the other slots became unaccessible. As long as you exit through the Main menu, you should not have this problem again.

No, once the patch is released, you should only need to restart your console and it should take effect. Since we are still testing this, I can include more specifics once they are known.

I only had one save slot. I was halfway through episode 4. I went to play it today, loaded the game, and chose play at the main menu and then my save slot one labeled episode 4 and then I choose the continue game option. The next thing I know It has started me at the start of episode 1. I then went back to the main menu and my only save slot now shows episode 1. If I go through the episodes screens and hit Y for Stats it only shows me the stats for episode 1 as if I just finished episode 1. The episode 1 screen also has the rewind option all the way to the ;last section of episode one but when I play it starts be at the beginning of episode 1.

I deleted episode 4 from the storage on the xbox hard drive. Started up the game and it still shows episode 1 on my save, but now if I go through and look at the episode screens and hit Y for stats it shows me the stats I choose for finishing episode 2 and 3. So that's better, but now I'm afraid to start and choose continue game and risk erasing things. It is not giving me a rewind option for episodes 2 or 3 but shows me my finished stats I choose in each of the episodes.

What should I do? Wait for a patch? Is there any chance I can be able to play from at least the start of episode 4 so I don't have to play through 1 through 3 again. I mean they were fun but I don't have 5 or 6 spare hours to replay them.

We are still testing the patch and checking for issues like this. You can start Episode 4 directly with random choices, and do not have to play prior episodes first.
  • edited October 2012
Thanks for the reply. I did see I could play episode 4 with random choices and I tried it late last night but many of the choices then in the previous episodes were different than I choose, so it kinda defeats the purpose of playing them initially. I don't want to play episode 4 with big choice differences. I guess I'll have to wait for the patch.

    Need this PATCH!
  • edited October 2012
I play on the xbox 360, and this is how I got episode four to work:

So, I excitedly bought and downloaded episode four. I have previously gone through episodes one through three on save slot 1, and only the first episode on save slot 2. Those are all the save slots I have used. When I fired up the game to play episode four, it would tell me that I had only completed episode one no matter which save slot I selected. I then deleted the save file on which I had only completed episode one. Now, when I selected my main save file (save slot 1) it said that I had not completed a single one of the episodes. Strange, I thought, and tried copying my main save file to save slot 2. Lo and behold! It would now load my main save file.

In conclution, I do not know if this will work for everybody, and I'm sure people have already tried this. It's not a brainiac solution. I suggest copying the save file for the entire game through the xbox's storage options first, but if you are experiencing the bug where only one of the save files are being loaded, pin pointing which one it is and copying the save file you want to play on there might do the trick as it did for me.

The sticky thread on this subject can still be found here.

Cthulthe, I was able to do something similar and it showed my progress halfway through episode 4 and let me start where I left off... however, I noticed that it had randomized the choices in the previous 3 missions. So I'll wait for the patch. I'd prefer playing the Lee that I started with. The whole idea of the game is that it is based on our choices so I'd like to finish it that way too.

Episode 4 has been out since the 9th & there is still no patch? PS3 got one within a few days.
  • edited October 2012
I also experienced the same problem as Shadowsong13. I've been using just the one save file. I played a good chunk of Episode 4, and then saved my game and quit. But then later in the day when I went to pick up where I left off, things went haywire. I would be on Episode 4, and press A to continue, but it would start me at the beginning of episode 1 for some reason. I tried a couple times and eventually I got it to restart at episode 4, although the beginning. The other episodes still have stats, and the "previously" contains scenes that I remember, so I think all my choices are carrying over. But it won't save my game.

I tried again this morning, and decided to just play from the beginning of Episode 4 again, and just now when I went to continue my game, it AGAIN started me at the beginning of episode 1, even though I was clearly on the Episode 4 title screen and pressed A to continue.

The thing that's annoying is that once this happens, my game save file now says Episode 1. So I'm guessing that all the progress I made going through Episode 4 AGAIN has been lost. Again. I really don't want to have to play through all of Episode 4 in one sitting, so I think I'm just going to have to sit on it and wait until a patch is released so that I can play it like the other three. Too bad, too, because I was really really enjoying it.

I'll just keep an eye on the forums, I guess...

This is so frustrating. I don't want to have to play through episode 4 in one sitting so I don't have to worry about losing my save game randomly, but then I'm also concerned that if there's a glitch with the saved games that I might start episode 5 and have it think I never played 4!

Well. I played about half way through episode 4 last night, I was getting tired so I turned off my 360 and went to bed (I paused the game turned off my 360 to be specific) now this morning I went to play it, I chose episode 4 and continue. Then it decided to start me all the way at episode one without any warning. Am I screwed now?

This is getting ridiculous telltale, I've said that before but this is just stupid. If nothing can be done about my issue now, I would like some sort of compensation. This is just beyond my comprehension anymore.

If you load your save, tab to Ep 4 and select rewind, do you have checkpoints available? If not, another user posted that copying your save from slot 1 to 3, then selecting the original slot 1 save, tabbing to Ep 4 and pressing Play also resumed their progress from where they left off.

We are however looking into this issue. Currently we are trying to reproduce it, and hopefully can find a solution soon.

Well, I was happy to hear about the patch, and a couple days ago, I loaded up the game and downloaded the patch. I once again had a little trouble starting Episode 4, because it kept trying to start me with Episode 1. But after restarting my 360, it finally let me start 4, with the previously that again contained the scenes I remember from 1-3.

I played just a little bit, until the first time I noticed a save icon, just as you get to the house and shut the gate. I didn't want to waste my time playing halfway through again just to have it delete my save. The next day, I started up the game again, and was pleasantly surprised to find that selecting "Continue" actually did continue my game where I left off. This time I played a little bit farther, ending at the arrival at the docks. However today, when I went to start my game, I hit "continue" and it showed me the opening credits of Episode 1 again. AGAIN! I don't get it!

And the problem is that as soon as this glitch occurs, it wipes your save of Episode 4 completely, so now when I start my game, it says I'm in episode 1. Sure, I can RB over to Episode 4, but it keeps starting me at Episode 1 regardless. And there's no option for rewind, since as far as the game is concerned, I haven't played Episode 4. I'm on Episode 1. I'm sure I could eventually get it to start Episode 4 at the beginning again. I have before. But I just don't have 3 or 4 hours or whatever it will take to play through the entire Episode in one sitting. I need to be able to play it in my own time.

As much as I'm enjoying this game, I really don't think I have it in me to play through the first half of Episode 4 for a fourth or fifth time. At least not until I know that this bug has been well and truly fixed and I'm not going to be wasting my time.

We are looking into this issue and hope to find a solution quickly.

However, can you please try something for me? If you select the save you wish to play, then select the last Episode you played (would be Episode 4) on that save and hit Play, the game should start you at the beginning of Episode 4. Once there, exit to the Main Menu, and tab back over to Episode 4 and the Continue button should be available. Also, if you select Rewind, you should see all the available checkpoints, up to where you last left off. Try to load Episode 4 and you should start where you last left off.

    Hi Guys,

i have a similar problem with my xbox 360 [Europe]

Me and 2 friends use all three save games and we made almost different decisions (Doug or Carley, fate of Ben , show or hide the bite).

Yesterday i wanted to start episode 5 (with my own save game) but all 3 save games are muddled. I check the stats and i notice that every decision we made are spread on all 3 save games. that means that i can't start my own save game with 100% of my decisions!
Also the game tell me that save game nr. 3 didnt finish episode 4, but that is totaly wrong!

I hope you understand my problem and sorry for spelling or grammar-mistakes

    greetings from germany !
