Episode 3 glitch...nothing fixes it!

I just started playing the Walking Dead over the weekend, and I've been addicted ever since! I had no issues at all with episodes 1 or 2, but I've been stuck at the same glitch in episode 3 for 2 days now. When Lee & Kenny are trying to get the train running and Lee has found the notepad with the instructions on it. When I select the console, I can select section 6, but I cannot select section 5 to move the knob on the left. I have rewound the game numerous times, and even redownloaded it twice, but every time I am running in to this same glitch. It's getting very frustrating to be stuck on such an easy step in the game.
Any suggestions to fix this glitch? I want to keep playing this game!

When you properly move the switches on Section 6, do the console lights turn on? Have you tried going outside and flipping the Section 9 switches?
  • edited November 2012
Yes, when I flip the switches on section 6, they light up perfectly. I did also try to turn on section 9, but I cannot, due to section 5 not being on. I feel like I've tried nearly everything!

I know you said you have tried rewinding, but can you try rewinding 2 checkpoints and replaying to this point in the game? Also, try copying your save to another slot and continuing from there and seeing if the option is available.

Lastly, please watch a video walkthrough of this scene, just to make sure you have fulfilled all the previous requirements. There are many steps to this puzzle that may not be obvious, and it's worth confirming that you satisfied all of them.

Rewinding 2 checkpoints -> Done (still lock)
Copying save to another slot -> Done (still lock)
Check walkthrough of this scene -> Fulfilled everything ... but still..:(

Come on you guys, 5 bucks each episodes and still, we are dealing with those kind of major bugs ...you should be ashamed ...
PLEASE PLEASE, would you please work on it fast ! I love your games but this .... man ..:(

You people on telltale team only say the same thing at alot of threads, maybe a new patch so this problem go away instead or?

Found a major bug on the train. Can't exit the notepad view after using the pencil to sketch the start up instructions. It keeps saying hit B to exit and shows the notepad flash by for a second but still says hit B to exit. I've tried rewinding to an earlier point and yet the same things happens. Please help.

Learn the notepad by heart and don't use it.... Only solution I found ! You will manage to activate switch 6 and 5. But for now without a patch it's impossible to activate switch 9, no instructions appears so we are all kind of stuck.

I have also done all of this to no avail.

This is obviously an issue with the game and needs to be resolved. There are a number of people stuck in the exact same spot.

    Please help!

I'm stuck on switch 9 as well, although really the problem seems to begin with reading the note. GAH! I bought episode 3 a few weeks ago and TODAY is the day I decide to play it.

This appears to be a new issue unrelated to the initial thread subject, and we are now looking into it.

After activating switches 6 and 5 and heading to switch 9, can you back out and continue to move around the train?

Yes as long as you don't try looking at the notepad while interacting with the console.

Thanks for the information. Can you tell me what episodes you have installed? Do you have all 5 or just 1-3?

    1 thru 3

The issue seems to start after reading the note. Hitting B does not back out of the note properly. I can continue to look around, but I cannot move freely. I have episodes 1 - 3 installed.

I'm jumping in because I'm having the same problem. The notepad screws everything up. You can fiddle with the number 9 switch before you decipher the notepad. However, once you use the pencil on the pad you're screwed, even if you complete switches 5,6 without looking at the pad(if u look at the pad it glitches out and you cannot exit the pad) the number 9 switch is not selectable no selectable circle. This has been going on for 2 days now. I've been playing for a week or so, only downloaded episode 1 thru 3. Something happened when Telltale issued an update on Monday morning, something with the update caused it too glitch out. I say this because i played this same part on sunday night(East coast time)around midnight. I started the train with no problems but i quit right after that before disconnecting the car and it didn't save the engine starting. started up on Monday, and there was an update for the game. So i completed the download and began playing when this problem kept reoccurring, rewinding also doesn't help. Restarted the whole episode to no avail .

    I have another couple questions:

Did you take or leave Lily?
Did you install the latest Title Update that was released this past weekend?

Thank you for your patience while we figure this out.

I took lily. I talk about the update in my previous post

    Hi

I've been having the same problem, with the control panel 9. I've even playd the whole episode again. First time leaving Lily and second time taking her with. I also downloaded the episode again but nothing works. The cursor won't find the ninth control panel. And yes, the game completely stucks if I open the notebook.

Hope you fix it soon, i'm getting quite addicted

edit: I've done the playing also with video walktrough, so there can be nothing i've missed.

I have done it both ways; Bring Lily and leave Lily. The bug persists. Yes I installed the update as well.

We have reproduced this issue in house, and determined that if you have either Episode 4 or Episode 5 (or both) installed, this issue will no longer occur. If you download these episodes after experiencing this issue, you will need to restart your xbox.

These work arounds are great and all, and for those that read the forums provide a solution, but I do hope that you patch these issues also.

    Thanks for looking into.

Jack-bn it is answered above - you need to download and install at least ep 4 (or both 4 & 5) and reset your x-box - i hope you were intending to buy them anyways!

    Thanks for your help!

Yes. I have both the notebook glitch and the panel 9 glitch. I left Lily, Doug died. I've copied the save file, reinstalled the episode, on Xbox, cleared system cache, completed all the other tasks as per walkthrough. No matter what, the 9th panel does not show up. I've now learned that a solution is to buy episode 4. That's dissapointing that I have to purchase another item to have a previous defective item work. Ugh. What if it doesn't fix it? What if the next is just as buggy. As a consumer I don't continue to buy products from a company that has delivered faulty or broken goods before. Please patch it - that's the right thing to do. If upon the conclusion of EP3 I'm still intrigued with the story, I'll buy the next one.

As a Walking Dead fan I decided to play this game when the first episode came out. I was led to believe that every month a new episode was to be released leading up to the third season of the Walking Dead on AMC. I was fine with later release dates as long as the quality was upheld. I had no problems with the first two episodes, but the third seems to be ridiculously full of glitches. I have only experienced the number nine switch and sketchpad glitches myself, but in looking for help have seen several other glitches. Game breaking glitches do not show quality. I've been buying the game episodically as I finished each section. I haven't had the chance to play much in the last four months, and now that I've started playing where I left off and found a place where I can't proceed because of a glitch, I've been informed that the only fix for this is to purchase two more episodes of a game that may or may not break again before the end? Are you then going to sell me a fix since there are no more episodes handy to fix the previous releases? Normally I wouldn't complain to this extent and I would just go ahead and buy the next two episodes to fix it, but as I am a poor college student I do not have the cash presently to purchase them I will complain. Had I known that this game would have so many problems I wouldn't have started playing it in the first place.

I would like to think that they will patch it, but until they do, and it is passed through Microsoft cert etc etc which can take time, that the alternative solution is offered as a workaround for those that can not wait for the patch,

Exactly. There's nothing to cry about here. A bug was found but they cannot update it immediately. At least they found a viable solution in the meantime if you are willing to spend 5 bucks which you will probably spend anyway if you made it this far. Great job to them in being quick to find a resolution. It could be much worse.

I've installed both episode 4 & 5, and restarted my Xbox five times. The glitch or bug still appears... I don't really know what else to do...

When you reload your last save, if you do not start at the beginning of the train wreck scene (when the group pulls up in the RV), please use the rewind menu to rewind to this point.

I have been playing WD through all the episodes as well and am stuck on the console five thing. It's been like this for a few weeks now and I am on edge trying not to break my XBOX controller because of it! I have rewound, redownloaded and restarted everything several times. Help!
