Also just tried clearing my system cache, no luck. Same error message when I get to "Trapped" in Act 5.

Tried deleting the Title Update and then clearing my System Cache, and also no luck. Crashed during "Siege" again.

It would be nice to get even a "we are looking into this" from Telltale but I expect they are too busy polishing all those awards to care about the customers.
  • edited April 2013
They're not busy polishing anything. They're busy rolling around in the money they scammed from people selling an unfinished game.

The thing is I hate being negative about this game. I loved every second of it while playing.

So to now be blocked from replays is simply awful. Even more so because Telltale don't seem to care.

I know they are a relatively small studio, I know they have other projects on the go, but come on. At least pay lip service to getting a previous title running for those who can't play it.

I've got this problem now, its at the part when you leave the Stranger's room in Episode 5. Telltale aren't helping anyone?

Edit: When I click Continue it takes me to a black screen and nothing happens, I have restarted the Stranger section 2 times now and the same thing happens. This is really annoying.

I haven't been able to play since 2012 now. This is ridiculous; Telltale's incompetence has made it so I haven't been able to play this game for over 9 months.

There are certain points in the game that universally cause a 'Storage Device Lost' error to pop up, the first point being the bit in Episode 1 where you're just about to start clearing the motel to save that woman. There's another point in Episode 5, just before you enter the Marsh House. I don't know about any other points, but they probably exist throughout each Episode.

I get it right after the Telltale/Skybound screen. The game won't even start. I re downloaded every episode and the update. Restarted my Xbox, modem and router. Everything is now and always has been on my HDD which has not been removed since before TWD even came out and I have never transferred my account. Everything was originally downloaded to this same profile and xbox. Whats's going on? I really want to make some decisions!

I also have this recurring problem. I wanted to get three different saves completed before 400 days came out (already had the 1st two done), and on the 3rd save, I made it all the way through to The Gauntlet chapter of episode 5, when it popped up with the storage device removed message and crashed.

I gave in and downloaded 400 days anyway and played it continuing on from my 1st save, and worked fine until the 4th character's epilogue (Bonnie's in my case), when it popped up with the same message again. Based on some of the suggestions on the related threads on here, I tried moving my save to cloud storage, which did nothing, and then I deleted off the 3rd save I had. Once I did this, it was temporarily fixed but I only got halfway through the 5th character's epilogue (Russell for me) before it popped up again.

Telltale, a fix would be mightily appreciated.

I having played in awhile because of this problem as well I thought they would have fixed this before the DLC have to say Telltale this is some bullshit

If this issue has been around since November of last year, and it's the same problem I just encountered with 400 days, I am VERY concerned with the lack of communication on the part of Telltale
  • edited July 2013
I'm starting to think I should talk to Telltale directly.
  • edited July 2013
There is no way to contact them directly, except maybe pray you get your tweet to them noticed.
  • edited July 2013
I e-mailed support. I'm not sure if they read it or not, but I got a ticket/case number thing.

I'm sure this problem will be fixed one day. one way or another.

I had this problem with the xbox storage device (well I still have it).

The only way I found to fix it was to change my storage device to cloud storage... it meant I had to completely replay the game with new saves (note you don't delete the old ones your just playing with another storage device) It hasn't glitched on there yet while it continues to do so on my home drive so it worked for me.

So yeah i know it's not a perfect solution but you can play the game at least :)

Problem is that Cloud Storage is only for Gold members.
  • edited July 2013
Tried with Cloud Storage on the 2nd save slot and it still did it to me. Has happened in the 1st episode, and the 2nd. I did delete an old save on that slot so I could replay the entire thing before the DLC came out. Wondering if there's something off with that. I'm scared to play the DLC with my other saves at this point so may just randomize it even if that'll irritate me at points I'm sure.
  • edited July 2013
You know? I was able to play my save file 1 twice with 400 days and the error never showed up. It only appeared on save file 2. Think that means anything?
  • edited July 2013
Doubt it. One of the trouble saving steps I tried was playing from the second and third save slots, both with a copied save and fresh runs.

The error occurred every time for me.

We are looking into this issue and trying to the determine the cause. Based on the feedback I've seen in this thread and others, it looks like most people have played through the game on all save slots (some more than once). At this time we recommend playing on only 1 or 2 save slots and leaving the 3rd empty. If you've already played in all 3 slots, you can try backing up your saves to a flash drive or MU, then delete the save off your console and start a fresh playthrough. Please note that deleting the save slot in-game will not have the same effect, so you will need to exit to your Xbox Dashboard and scroll to the far right tab. Select 'System', then 'Storage', find your save device, select 'Games and Apps', find the Walking Dead, and then delete the 11MB save file for the affected profile.

Well I will wait for a fix, or Telltale to buy me a USB. I'm not spending more money to do a workaround for something I should not even need to be doing.

Thanks for the reply MattP but in over six months this error has been occurring, I have tried that.

In fact I went one step further. I deleted the entire folder from my 360, then cleared the cache, so that there was no trace of the game left on my console. Other than the achievements of course.

Downloaded everything again, took the title update and started playing using only save slot 1. All seemed to be going well until I tried to cross the sign in episode 5 and "storage device lost."

The error seems to occur most often for me after the resurrection of the person you bring back from the forest in episode 2 and crossing the sign in episode 5.

I bought all episodes for this game when they were on sale a couple of months ago and completed episode 1. I just started ep2 last night and I keep getting the lost storage device error also. I've not played through the whole game and I've only used one save slot. I also have 80gb of space free on my HD which I've never removed or used a separate storage unit for.

Ok, I have this problem too, and I deleted all saves, all episodes, and redownloaded, and replayed the game on only ONE slot. I have the same bug, in the same place. I am using Cloud as the storage device.. yes CLOUD. its impossible to "remove" the save device, when the device is CLOUD! I just recently bought 400 days. I have the same problem. on the prison bus, when we escape the bus. and on wyatt (if I choose to go out it works, but if the other guy goes out to look , it does it) I WOULD BE MORE THEN WILLING TO SEND MY XBOX TO YOU GUYS (if you send it back ofc) so you can play and see for yourself , I barely play, the only game ive played in last year is Walking Dead. so its no problem. i would even pay for the delivery of it. i LOVE this game . and it BREAKS my heart that i cant even play through it, and wont be able to buy season 2, because , of course why buy a game , i know i wont be able to finish.

So I have been playing the TellTale game The Walking Dead game since it first came out. I had no issues with it at all UNTIL I downloaded the 400 DLC. I have done every single suggestion on this thread and all to no avail. So, does anyone know if this issue is specific to the xbox 360 systems? I am willing to try this on my PS3 and my PS4 (when it is available for that system) but I don't want to do this if it is already a known issue.

I absolutely understand the frustration about this on both ends. Being a Network administrator I know there is nothing more frustrating for the developers when these things happen with "no rhyme or reason". But, when a user is having an issue, my motto is "I don't know is NOT a complete sentence"! I like to say "I don't know but let me find out who does" or SOME type of answer to the customer. So with that said - Come one TellTale; Give the consumer SOMETHING. Let us know you are working on it and WHEN a resolution COULD be expected. Just a consistent update on this issue is all we are looking for. Nothing is more frustrating that being left hanging after handing over the cash.

And now that I am off my soap box - back to my original question – Does anyone know if this issue is happening on the PS3?

Thank you and have a pleasant tomorrow!

I played through the game on my PS3 and PC without issue. Though I've not played the 400 Days DLC on either of those platforms.

Peaka, we have been, and still are looking into this issue. However, at this time we have not made any progress in formulating a fix for the issue. In regards to PC and PS3, we have not had any reports of this issue on those platforms and have not been able to reproduce the issue there as well.

We believe this issue is related to total save space, so our current recommendation is to only use 2 save slots to play through the series. Avoiding the 3rd save slot has been reported to avoid encountering this issue. If you have already used all 3 slots, you can try transferring your save data to a flash drive and then remove all save data from your hard and start a fresh playthough in only 1 slot.

Hopefully we will have more information soon.

For those experiencing this issue, what model Xbox 360 console are you using?

The reason I ask is unrelated to this issue, this past summer, I had an issue logging in to Xbox LIVE due to new security options Microsoft implemented. Long story short, they couldn't reproduce the error until they tried testing it on an Xbox 360 console (by default, they test on Xbox 360 S consoles). The issues I was having occur on an Xbox 360 console but _not_ and Xbox 360 S console.

Perhaps the "Storage Device Lost" error is also related to the model of console used.

So again, what Xbox 360 console are you using?

I have an Xbox 360 Pro console with a 120 GB HDD and a Wireless Networking Adapter.

Telltale games, are your test units only "S" model consoles?

    Thanks!

Does anyone know if removing 400 Days fixes the issue?
I'm not even able to finish the first episode anymore.
  • edited August 2013
Yup this problem still persists, stuck at E2 (rewind), near ending of the episode. Reinstalled it (that usually fixed it for me) and yet it keeps giving me that error, does anyone know the cause, or how to solve it?
  • edited September 2013
Same thing here...Thought I had it fixed too. Haven't saved anything in Save slot 3 for awhile and now I can't even make it passed Episode 1. The message will pop up either after I go with Ben outside then back in or after putting the bandage on Clem's finger...so, not too sure what's going on. Except, I has to do with the third save slot...when I stuck to the first two I didn't have this problem...hopefully, when Season 2 comes out there will be a solution or something.

Just looked at the game in my storage...I have plenty of room on my xbox 360 (217 GB Free space, fyi) but did notice a weird exclamation point in a yellow circle by the words "Title Update Progress cache" with the word "Update" underneath...this just might be the issue we're needing to look into...
  • This issue just happened to me today on both save files 1 and 3, so I had to delete them. Too scared to use the second one due to the fear of losing a third completed safe file.

  • No offence, but this is such bullshit. I tried the rewind feature and it worked only temporarily. It's been almost a year since this problem has been reported why is there no solution? I paid money for a game I expect to work and function properly. If this issue will never be resolved, I want another copy of the game for free.

  • I been had this problem for a while now but I played this game like about over three times without no problem and I thought the game was amazing. I wanted my friend to try it out but now the same stupid storage device keeps poping up and I can't finish the story and I'm not gonna get season 2 when I know I'm gonna get that storage device message again...I've tried everything like deleting the whole game and reinstalling it but the storage device message pops up again...I don't get it I have a crap load of space on my hard drive. -___- this just takes away the excitement for season 2 cause I know I won't be able to play it. Telltales please fix this problem cause it sucks ass and this is my favorite game.

Okay, well, that debunks my theory that it's the legacy Xbox 360 consoles like mine doing this.

This game breaking bug really is a shame. At least I got to play through this amazing game almost three times, but still, the fact that I've been sitting with an unplayable game due to a game breaking bug for six months now is very disheartening.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days is presently on sale for 50% off on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and I'd like to buy it but I won't simply because I don't expect it to work.

At this point to, I likely won't be picking up any future TellTale Games products, not because they're not good, The Walking Dead was my first game of theirs and it's exceptional, but the customer support is poor and my money has, sadly, been wasted it seems.

I'd prefer to simply support developers that actually support their products.

    Such a shame.

  • Well I know it is a longshot but perhaps when season 2 comes out the bug will go away? I mean I notice a lot of people, including myself have only gotten the bug when we downloaded 400 days. So it could have something to do with that. I've said it many times before on several topics, but I only noticed it on slot 2 and was able to play through it twice on slot one. Sure after I deleted my save file 2 and replaced it with a copy of my save file 1, I got the bug, I actually tried it again only this time rewinding the copy to the epilogue, and I didn't get the bug this time. It's probably naive thinking on my part, but I'll see what happens when season 2 comes out.

I'm trying to stay positive on this.

  • Everyone just play on a different xbox profile you won't get that annoying popup that stops you from playing the game. It worked for me...

  • It happened to me when I got 400 days as well. 3 of the character's stories worked without incident, but I'm unable to finish Russell's and Shel's chapter's. As if that wasn't bad enough I just tried to replay through the main game and now the same thing is happening in episode 1. As much as I loved this game I can't justify getting season 2 if you're just going to take our money and give us the finger when we ask you to fix the broken game you sold us.

  • If you really wanna play it make another xbox profile and play the game there if you wanna get season two just download it from the on you were using that gave you that stupid storage device lost message that's what I've been doing so now I can finally play the game
