400 Days -MAC- won't show on menu after install.
I purchased 400 Days for my Mac about 10 days ago from the ineffably ineffectual MacGame Store. I sent them a post similar to this but they have yet to answer, so I decided to come directly here and see if I fare better finding a solution for my troubles (that I believe I share with a couple of posts for the PC I've seen).
The Problem:
The DLC game has been downloaded and installed successfully, but when The Walking Dead is launched, there is no option to choose 400 Days, only the previous 5 episodes.
The Situation (in detail):
I downloaded the game installer as per the instructions on the store of purchse, which are very straightforward.
I re-installed TWD.
I applied the 400 Days DLC upgrade using the downloaded installer.
I opened the game.
Nowhere in the game there is the option to choose to play 400 Days.
Troubleshooting Attempts: (all failed so far)
- Deleted all previous game preferences and plists, such as: com.TelltaleGames.Platform.plist, com.telltalegames.WalkingDead101.plist, Telltale Games folder from my "Library/Application Support" folder.
- Deleted the game (garbage bin, then empty bin).
- Re-downloaded the 400 Days DLC, and re-installed it.
- A combination of re-download of the DLC and deletion of the aforementioned prefs and plists.
- Right-clicked the TWD app with the installed DLC and checked there was a new episode present in: /Applications/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Resources/Pack. Present inside there is this folder that I assume is the 400 Days episode: WalkingDead106.
- Step number 4 but now connected to the internet to see if there was an additional download of any sort that I had been missing (such as a patch that I was unaware of).
My System Specs (and other info):
- No Steam for me, so all TWD apps were downloaded from MacGame Store.
- I downloaded Episodes 1-5 and 400 Days in two separate dates.
- iMac 21.5-inch, Late 2012
- Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
- Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 512 MB
- Software: OS X 10.8.2 (12C2034)
I hope I left nothing of importance out, if I did you can contact me to let me know what else you could use to pinpoint the reason of this most annoying Gremlin.
Thanks for your time.

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?
No timisbakon, no solution yet. The game still won't launch
Any Luck now? just tried and it wont show up either
I'm having the exact same problem. Whats the deal???
This version of the game gets an update on launch which supplies the necessary changes to Episode 1 to have "400 Days" show up in the Main Menu. That update is separate from the "400 days" game itself which is downloaded as an expansion. To get the update, be connected to the internet when passing the click to start screen. When it says Connecting... the game is looking to download updates. With the update, "400 Days" should show up in the menu even if you don't have the expansion. If you are not getting the updates, than likely there is a connectivity issue. Check Gatekeeper and Fire Wall settings to insure that the game can make a connection on start.
I find that to not be the case.
I just followed your directions for this update while connected to a few different networks and results were no different.
We are aware of this issue. We should have it fixed very soon.
Dear Telltale-Team,
first of all - I really enjoyed playing the game and this was the main reasob to buy the Extension 400 days - and this is when trouble started.
I bought both - the main game and the extension from Mac Game Store.
Installing and playing the main game via Steam was not a problem at all.
But to install the extension was very difficult.
The first time I tried, the installer brought up an error that this game has already been modified.
So I started the game - as usual - via Steam but I could not access the 400 days episode - it simply said 'Coming Soon'. As a next step I completely removed the installation via Steam, re-installed it, then patched the game with the 400 Days Installer provided by Mac Game Store (which magically worked the second time) and tried again - same result.
Episode 400 days coming soon.
Again, same procedure of removing, rebooting, install, patch - same result.
For some reason I thought that it might be worth a try to start the app without Steam and I got a complete different result - it worked!
The game now was in german and I was able to play the Episode.
Okay, the spoken language (audio) is still in english BUT - there is no way to change the language anymore, and I have to say that the german translation is REALLY BAD and the options that one is getting are in german language and they really are bad - there are so many 'false friend' translations that I really wondered if there was google translation involved.
So, for those of you that want to give it a try, launching the app via
/Users/YOURNAMEHERE/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/the walking dead
might solve your problem.
But Telltale please, if you don't want to spend any money in a decent translation, let the user decide if he wants to use this.
If you need any help with the translation, let me know.
Best regards
Klaus
All best wishes and cheers for that fix to come soon. Thanks!
Although it would be kind of funny if I ended up waiting 400 Days to finally play my game
We have resolved the server issue that was preventing some users from acquiring necessary patches. Please ensure you have a strong internet connection, have disabled any firewalls or anti-virus programs that may be blocking access to our servers, and then launch the game again. You should see a black screen that lasts a few seconds to a few minutes. During this time all available patches, including the menu patch to see 400 Days, will be installed to your computer automatically.
Hey Matt. Thanks for all the efforts. Pitty they were to no avail. Results are the same as originally posted, that is to say, the game still does not show on the menu.
Here is what took place today 17th of January 2014:
All firewalls, anti-viruses and assorted protections disabled for the duration.
Fresh installation of TWD (5 Episodes).
400 Days installation process.
After making sure my internet connection was strong, I launched the original TWD game. There was no black screen and no wait. Immediatelly I accessed the game with no delay and was greeted with an add for "400 Days". Things looked dire.
Menu still unchanged. No traces of 400 Days.
Tried to re-install "400 Days" but was told the installation had been successfull already.
And that is the end of this tale of sorrow and desperation. We shall stay tunned for the next harrowing episode.
My sys-specs have not changed at all so there is no need for an update there.
And in TWD character: Best luck with finding the cure for this bug.
I am not familiar with that particular version of the game, but if it's similar to the others I might be able to find a cause with some more information.
Please follow the instructions to run the TWD Support Tool and post the download link to the resulting "TWD_support_data_pc.zip" or "TWD_support_data_mac.zip" to your next reply in this thread.
Will do and post it back.
I am guessing that you mean that I should create the support file using the already updated version of the game (e.g. TWD already patched with the 400 Days expansion), and not the TWD game prior to the patching.
If I am wrong, or if you would prefer that I upload for you both files (a support file of TWD before the 400 patch and a file after the 400 patch), please let me know.
Thanks for your help
Done. Took way less than I thought so I just created and uploaded versions of both, pre and post patched game.
I used the file-hosting service that was linked on the instructions page. In my experience sites that host files that are free and do not require signup do tend to remove the files somewhat quickly, so if you try to download them and they are not there anymore (or encounter any other kind of problem) let me know so I re-up them or find another place to stash them for you.
In any case, here are the links:
TWD support file (pre-patched).
TWD 400 Days support file (post-patched).
Thanks again.
To me it looks like it could be fine, but I don't know it there's anything special to that version you have.
Does it show 400 days in the "Download Content" Menu?
If you start a new game, does it show up on the screen where you can select the episode you want to start in?
Nope. It does not show in either place.
"Download Content" and "New Game" only give me options pertaining the 5 episodes of the first season, and nothing more.
When you say "I don't know if there's anything special to that version", do you mean the specific offering of the shop I bought it from (in this case Mac Game Store)?
If that is what you mean, then I don't think they have special rules for the download of the apps they sell nor if they modify/restrict them somehow (as Steam does with the games they sell). In fact, I used that shop because they are not like Steam. If there would've been any special restrictions to TWD, I would've bought it elsewhere (like here).
Hope this offers you a bit more clues into the decipherment of the mystery.
Your help is truly appreciated.
With "special" I meant, that I am only familiar with the TTG store and steam version.
I fear I don't know what's going on there.
I suggest you send a PM to @TelltaleMike including a link to this thread. Maybe he's got some more information.
Thanks DjNDB, I'll do that now.
As I said above, I think the version that MacGames Shop sells is as vanilla as they come (maybe identical to the TTG one), because there were no special restrictions mentioned under the description of the game, but only they know if that is a fact, and since they never answered any of my emails, we'll never know.
Once more, much obliged for all your troubles on trying to help me.
I suppose that with so many months between the release of 400 Days and the new Walking Dead season, there is not much hope any longer that this issue will ever be resolved. Is that correct?
Goodness... I joked when I mentioned that it may be 400 days before I could actually play my game... Murphy's Law is ever vigilant and no wonder I am its prefered puppet.
Hi, did you find a solution? I just finished episode 5 and installed the dlc but it's not working , I even gave up on the dlc and tried to start season 2 and now the game says it's unable to find the S1 save file
Hey Marte79.
I am so sorry to respond many months too late. I'm also sorry to tell you (if you don't already know by now) that there was never a solution to the 400 Days DLC inability to load or be recognized by the main game, or none that I know of. That is the reason I had not visited this thread (or the website) in the better part of a year, and the reason I did not replied to your question earlier.
I've no idea of season 2 because I don't own it, so I can't give you any advice (hopefully you already figured something out in this 8 or 9 months since you left this message). All this information is surely useless to you now, but I still wanted to reply.
Take care and best luck.
