The Wolf Among Us does not open!

Whenever i try to load the game using Steam the screen turns black for a few seconds then it pops up saying TheWolfAmongUs.exe has stopped working and i have also tried to reinstall it however it still doesn't work. http://gyazo.com/cffcc32d431a4e376f03ae853b586b5e
I tried to use the TWAU Support Tool however it doesn't work for me and i also do not use a controller of any sort. So here is everything screenshotted that i thought would be useful:

What didn't work about running the support tool?
If you could run the tool again and take a screenshot of it's window after it's done that could be helpful in finding out why the tool didn't work.

Please also check if the game crash creates an entry in the
event viewer in the "Windows Logs/Application" section.
If so, right click the entry, select "copy the details as text", and paste them in a new reply.

  • For the TWAU Support Tool it tells me to press any key and when i do nothing happens so i can't really screenshot it :/, however an entry does come up using the event viewer:

I found the cause of the crash:

Faulting application path: E:\Orcs Must Die!\steamapps\common\The Wolf Among Us\TheWolfAmongUs.exe

The game doesn't like the exclamation mark "!" in the path to your steam library.
The game should work if you create a steam library with only ascii characters in the path.
You can create a new steam library under "view/settings/Downloads/Steam Library Folders".
For example you can create a library at "E:\simple".

Now you can either copy the game to the new location or download it again.

    Alternative 1: Copy
Go to "E:\simple\SteamApps" and create a folder named "common".

Copy (Don't move!) the entire "The Wolf Among Us" folder from
    E:\Orcs Must Die!\steamapps\common\
    to
    E:\simple\SteamApps\common\

Select "Delete local content" for The Wolf Among us.

Install "The Wolf Among us" and select the new library during installation.

    Alternative 2: Download
Select "Delete local content" for The Wolf Among us.

Install "The Wolf Among us" and select the new library during installation.

It is also possible to move the entire steam library instead, but that is more work and affects all your installed games.

Maybe my description was a bit too short in some places.
First open steam. Then at the top menu select "view -> settings". In the windows that opens up select the "Downloads" tab. There click the button named "Steam Library Folders" at the bottom. In the new windows click the "add library folder" button. It will open a window where you can select the location of the new library folder.
"E:\simple" was just a placeholder for any drive or folder you might choose.
The rest is as described above.

The support tool didn't fully work. Please post your dxdiag info.

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Windows 8: At the start screen, type in "dxdiag" and hit enter

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it, and upload it to an instant filehoster and post the download link.

I am not sure what causes it.

Please verify the game cache files.

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Name: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE

You have two graphics chips. Intel chips don't work well with TTG's games and they might crash.
Please check your graphics driver's settings to make sure the game uses the Nvidia graphics chip.

It could also be a savegame or configuration issue.

Please disable steam cloud for TWAU (In Steam, right click TWAU and select "properties". Open the tab "updates" and remove the checkbox from "Enable Steam cloud synchronization for TWAU).

    Then rename the savegame folder
    %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Telltale Games\The Wolf Among Us
and try if the game works.

  • alright, did all of that, and still wouldnt work. BUT, i went to the .exe and checked compatibility for Windows 8. Now working. :)
