Game Crashed my PC - now saves won't load

The game crashed my PC sometime during episode 3. Once I restarted it wouldn't load my save files, but my save files do still exist. Something corrupted some place and I'm thinking it's preps.prop file. The game just refuses to read my save files.

Steps I've done:

  • Re-installed game
  • Copied preps.prop file to S:\Programs\Steam\steamapps\common\The Walking Dead\Pack\default
  • Downloading files from Steam Cloud
  • Deleting files from Steam Cloud
  • Deleting preps.prop file

Please help!

    The prefs.prop is required for the savegames to work. Most likely the crash corrupted the prefs.prop and it was replaced with a new one.
    I can help you find the best solution, if there's any way of recovering your progress.
    Please follow the instructions to run the TWD Support Tool and post the download link to the resulting "TWD_support_data_pc.zip" or "TWD_support_data_mac.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

    Okay, it doesn't look too good, but there is a slim chance of recovering your progress.
    Please disable steam cloud for TWD.
    Then try the "restore previous version" feature (right click, "properties", "restore previous version") on the prefs.prop in the savegame folder ( S:\Documents\Telltale Games\The Walking Dead ).

    I guess that was last option?

    If so, may I request some type of a tool/addon be made that lets us take 1 or a group of save files (group so it can see our choices) and load them up? That would be really helpful for those of us who lose our prefs.prop file.

    Yes, that was the one shot. Without the prefs.prop the decisions and associations between savefiles are lost.

    I know such a tool would be great, and this has been suggested to TTG before, but it never happened.
