I also found an old thread that mentioned downloading and using a support tool to gather information, and then uploading the link to an instant filehoster.

Here is the support tool data link:

Finally, I am running Windows 7 Pro SP1.

Can you please tell me why my game is not working?
If there is anything else that you need, please let me know.
Thanks.

Please check the properties of the Steam.exe, your Steam icons, and the games .exe files, and disable any compatibility mode settings.
Sometimes compatibility mode is checked, but is grayed out. Then you have to click on "Change settings for all users" at the bottom to disable the checkbox.
Afterwards try if the game works.

  • Nah, that's not it.
    Thanks anyway.

It's exactly the error code that shows up in these cases.

If you made absolutely sure, that the method mentioned above didn't work to, you can try disabling it in the registry.

I moved your comment to this thread. The other one was about a different game.

Please follow the instructions to run the TWD Support Tool and post the download link to the resulting "TWD_support_data_pc.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

Please open the Steam client. In the menu select "help/system information".
Right click on the information it shows and select "select all".
Right click again and select "copy".
Finally paste the results into a reply message in this thread by pressing CTRL-V.
It contains a section "Installed software", which might have sensitive entries, so feel free to redact them.
