OS X 10.9 Instant Crash [Fixed in update]
I am running OS X 10.9 GM, but The Walking Dead instantly crashes when trying to start it.
It seems it has to do with the Code Signature of the game: Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (Code Signature Invalid)
Is this known? Working in a fix? Because 10.9 is going live somewhere near the end of this month...

Any fix for this???
I have the same problem.
Support service to spit?
Today I got this very helpful reply from Support:
I told them that going back to 10.8 was no solution since 10.9 is about to be released by the end of this month. They need to fix this!
I love their games, but the support is very bad...
I surely hope they fix this, I just bought the game and I'm not able to play it. I don't think about going back to OSX 10.8. If their statement is that the game won't be updated since TWD came out earlier than 10.9 than I'm going to request a refund.
Please fix this issue!
Since OS X 10.9 officially released yesterday I think it's about time for a fix! Please help your customers, or else this will be the last TellTaleGames game I bought...
I wonder if it's really just a code signing issue or more.
Does the game work if you set gatekeeper to "Anywhere" in "System Preferences/Security & Privacy"?
If that doesn't work, how about if you disable the "assessment subsystem"?
Make sure to reenable it after the test and set gatekeeper back to the setting you prefer.
disable:
sudo spctl --master-disable
enable:
sudo spctl --master-enable
Hey there DjNDB,
Still having the Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (Code Signature Invalid) with gatekeeper on anywhere and/or with spctl --master-disable.
I wonder if the steam version has the same problem?
Thanks for trying. I don't know if the steam version has the same problem or not.
If they do not fix this, I will demand a refund.

The error in the crash is EXC_CRASH (Code Signature Invalid) - sounds like it could be fixed by re-issuing the binary with a new signature.
Wow this is really really bad. Not a single word of support yet... I am also starting to think about getting a refund.
And the responses to tickets are making me cry. Basically they are saying: It's not working on 10.9, deal with it.
It's a shame!
I have emailed support and have not gotten a response in over a week... I am very disappointed in this not being updated to work properly.
It won't be of much help, but I bought today the Steam version, and it runs fine on my MacBook Pro (late 2011) with 10.9.0 installed. I've not played much though, but so far no crash. It should not be too difficult for Telltale Games to release a fixed version, so.
I just got it to work on 10.9. The workaround is quite easy, but not really elegant. Also it's absolutely unofficial.
It consists of installing xcode from the App store (>2GB download), creating a self signed certificate for codesigning in the keychain, and signing the TheWalkingDead.app.
Creating the certificate:
Then open a Terminal, navigate to the folder containing TheWalkingDead.app, and run
sudo codesign -f --deep -s "djndb" TheWalkingDead.app
Instead of djndb you need to use the name of your certificate. It might ask you to accept the xcode license agreement. Just follow the instructions on the command line.
This is just for people who can't wait to play the game. I hope that TTG will upload a new properly signed version eventually. Also there might be other issues with running the game on 10.9. If you notice anything weird, please report it here.
Easy indeed! I can't believe I didn't think of it myself
I can confirm that the workaround is working.
Thank you, DjNDB!
As a tribute to your genius, I actually called the certificate "djndb".
It works super fine. Thanks a bunch!
I hope this get fixed soon, though.
It doesn't work for me...
In the terminal, I read:
TheWalkingDead.app: bundle format unrecognized, invalid, or unsuitable
In subcomponent: /Applications/TheWalkingDead.app/Contents/Frameworks/SDL.framework
The official fix has been announced.
I get the following error.
I don't know what causes these error messages. It worked for me the way I described it. I am not a Mac expert at all, but hopefully someone will find out what causes that.
This is just not acceptable. If they (Telltalegames) are developers, then they have had access to 10.9 for over six months. That they even use the "Sudden" and "Unexpected" launch of 10.9 as an excuse is LAME. As a developer myself, we get the OS many months before the actual release. To add insult to injury developers are also warned before the launch of an OS to make sure they have their software up to date. I have updated my OS and I am current. The developer should do so as well.
At least they are on it.
Thanks DjNDB of your efforts
It's amusing to me how the support group just assumes we all have multiple version of the Operating System available to us. LOL!
When will TTG get the update for OSX 10.9?
It works with your solution, thank you
Hi,
Just download SDL.framework from their website and replace the file on the Resources folder:
http://www.libsdl.org/download-1.2.php
I hope this helps.
Thanks
What a genuis, Worked like a charm
I got the same problem here while replacing the certificate.
I tryied to do this SDL.framework from the website, but it didn't work. I am confusing about what to download and what part of that I have to replace.
Can you help with some kind of step-by-step?
We have just released an update that will resolve this issue, but you will need to install the latest version of the game. To do this, uninstall the current version of The Walking Dead that is installed on your computer. Then login to your Telltale account, select the drop-down arrow next to your avatar, select 'My Games' and download the Mac installation file (version 4). Once re-mstalled, you should no longer experience an issue on OS X 10.9.
If I do this, will I lose my progress in the game? Do I have to start from scratch?
TheWalkingDead.app: No such file or directory
I don't know why i'm getting this. I navigated to the applications folder, where I dragged the Walking Dead app to, by typing in
cd applications
and then I entered in all the right characters above, but for some reason it still tells me the application doesn't exist.
That particular issue has been fixed a while ago and self signing is not required anymore.
How do you self sign the certificate????
I just got this... :

When did you download it? You need to download the latest version from the my games section.
You get to the "My Games" section, by pressing the icon at the top of the page and selecting "My Games".
can you please make a youtube video about the procedure of the installation...please that would be some great help..i hope this message reaches you...thanks
i tried doing it every possible way but i couldnt...please help
I've been trying to apply this solution for an hour now but I can't get it to work I am aware that I can download a newer version that'll work but I want to get this game working using this solution. I'm just annoyed that I can't fix it lol
The problem is that it keep giving me the error: TheWalkingDead.app No such file or directory
I simply open the folder in the terminal by dragging the file from my applications folder onto the terminal icon on my dock so it's definitely the right place.
Any help?
Did you do cd applications, then cd TheWalkingDead.app hen did sudo codesign -f --deep -s "YourCertificateName" TheWalkingDead.app ?
