Mouse not moving

I am on episode 3, at the train station. Every episode/chapter has worked just fine, but it stops working when I am being approached, stuck in one location unable to move to grab anything. I have tried restarting, rewinding several chapters, and everything works fine up until the same point. Please help me fix this. Thanks!

If you are on steam, please verify the game cache files.

If it's not fixed, please follow the instructions to run the TWD Support Tool and post the download link to the resulting "TWD_support_data_pc.zip" or "TWD_support_data_mac.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

I don't know what causes this, so I don't know how much i can help, but I'll give it a try.
Does the mouse cursor not move at all, or is it just limited to a certain area?
Do you use the trackpad or an USB mouse?
Do you have a xbox360 gamepad that you might be able to use to work around it?

  • If this makes sense, the cursor appears as the red crosshair that appears when you should attack, and stays in a fixed position on the screen. I cannot move it in any way. I do not have the gamepad or a usb mouse, I just use the touchpad. I do appreciate your help.

I haven't seen that one before. I wonder if it is something unusual with your savegames.

If you .zip and upload your prefs.prop and all *.save files i can take a look at them.
Please upload it as a single .zip file to an instant filehoster and post the download link.

Also describe roughly what steps you need to do after loading the savegame until the bug occurs.

I walk into the train station, have to move the mouse and click above the gate. Move it again to pick up Clem. The gameplay freezes to show the animation of them, and when it returns to gameplay the mouse is frozen in the middle of the screen in the red crosshair.

In your save slot 1 and 2 they already are in the train station and Clem is on the other site of the gate.
I can play on from both savegames without any problems.

I notice that your graphics chip has less memory than recommended, which could cause a problem like that in some scenes.
I suggest you try setting the resolution and all graphics settings to the lowest value/off for that scene.

If that doesn't work it might still be something weird with your installation, so please uninstall and reinstall the game.

  • Oh, yes, I'm sorry. I stepped away from it to avoid banging my head against keyboard; forgot it starts with the animation.

I did as you suggested, and FINALLY was successfully able to move my mouse and pick up my needed item. Then it stopped moving again! I was fairly sure it was user error, I was shocked to be able to move it and perhaps I froze? ha! So I tried again and it's no longer moving. I didn't change one thing between the two attempts. I'm going to do the uninstall. Thank you for all of your guidance and help! I appreciate you holding my hand through this.

    I hope reinstalling works...
Otherwise I could play through the sequence and upload the saves. You would miss 1-2 minutes of gameplay, but at least there's another chance you can continue.
Or you could copy the saves to another computer, if available.

  • I have figured out my problem and thought I would update, just in case you were curious. I was unable to move my mouse while using the keyboard. I have no idea when or where this came about. I am certain I have had to use both functions before without issue, so I am not sure. I went into the game several more times to see why it would not move and noticed if I did not back away I could use my mouse, if I backed away I could not. Thanks again for your help. I'm sorry to have wasted all these days on my computer's issues.

Thanks for the update. I thought backing away was necessary. Were you able to play past it?

  • Yes. I adjusted the touchpad sensitivity on my computer and can now move the mouse while pressing keys. :)
