Unable to change Resolution in Settings

I was just about starting to play the Steam version of Wolf Among Us and run into an odd problem:
I can't change the resolution for the game at all. It says "nil" instead of any known resolutions (See picture 1). The game is also running apparantely only in 640x480.
When I exit the Graphics settings, I also loose everything except the background on the screen (Picture 2).

I tried to switch output ports on my video card (Ati HD6970 with the newest drivers). I also noticed that for some reason, the game seems to work fine on my TV. I can adjust the resolution etc.
But with my primary display (couple years old BenQ, running FullHD), it just won't work.

Haven't had any problems with any previous games made by your engine (The Walking Dead, Monkey Island and Poker Night 2). If you have any ideas on how to fix this, would love to hear them...

That's an issue I haven's seen yet, so I'll have to do some analysis.

Please follow the instructions to run the TWAU Support Tool and post the download link to the resulting "TWAU_support_data_pc.zip" or "TWAU_support_data_mac.zip" to your next reply in this thread.

    Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (59Hz)

This is probably your Benq display, but there is no information. I wonder if that could cause the problem.

What is the exact model of your benq display?
Is it directly connected via DVI or is there any kind of adapter on either side of the calbe?

  • I actually just added a DVI-HDMI adapter, which allowed me to switch the input in the display to DVI from HDMI.
And surprisingly it seems to recognize the display correctly and the game also functions right.
Must've been a busted HDMI port on the display perhaps.

    Good call, thanks!

    Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 310M
    Dedicated Memory: 459 MB

I am not sure if that's the cause, but the system requirements are 512MB VRAM.

There's a few things you can try though:

    • verifying the game cache files.
    • Resetting your graphics drivers 3D settings to the defaults
    • Changing the graphics settings ingame to high or low values
