  • I phrased my earlier comment very poorly; it was completely ambiguous as to whether I was talking about Beowulf the legend, or Beowulf the name of an epic poem. The poem is indeed Old English, and I think it's the oldest written English-language document ever found. The character is Danish, and the legend comes from the traditional oral history of those Scandinavians who lived in Denmark at the time. To make matters worse, the region Beowulf is set in, is now part of Sweden, not Denmark.

Anyway, sorry about the confusion. My bad.

From what I can tell it's generally assumed to be written in England. But the story is set in Scandinavia. how come you removed your comment?

  • Oh it's no problem at all, I was being overly presumptuous on what we were talking about as well, good we're on the same page again!

  • The oldest known version of it is an Old English text, one of four Anglo-Saxon codices, but it's likely the story is far older. The real life events that are mentioned happened about 100 years before the Angles invaded England, 500 years or so before it was written down.

  • As far as I'm concerned, they won't be able to justify saying 'early January' and giving us information later than the 15th.

The 15th is a stretch for 'early' anyway, so if we don't get information before then I will be very disappointed.

  • Uh.. You do know that's in a couple of days lol? Don't be too hopeful. If anything, it'd probably come out in Late January. And as for TWD - either mid to late February, to possibly early march.. I don't think telltale would fuck up on TWD and delay that too, if they did - they're in a shit load of trouble.

Do you regret buying a season pass? I absolutely do. What makes it worse is that I play on pc. The only way for me to play episode 1 was to buy a season pass since telltale won't sell individual episodes on pc. I don't see myself ever buying a season pass again after how TWOA has been handled and I'm disgusted by how telltale has decided to fuck over the pc community for seemingly no reason.

I'm glad I didn't buy the season pass and now I never will. I also won't ever purchase any of their episodic content until all of the episodes have been released. This is beyond unacceptable.

  • Its the discounting the preorder part that burns me. We're going to get same thing, at same time, for the next 4 episodes, but I'm paying more. That's BS.

Buying early for anything means you're going to pay more. You can either pay for say.....Mass Effect 3 when it comes out or wait a few months

  • Don't regret it at all. Quality content takes time to produce. Yea an update would be nice but they never promised any time frame.

  • [removed]

  • They're a company and they have a responsibility to their customers to release content in a timely fashion or at least keep their customers apprised of any developments that may hinder the release of that content. The "they never promised..." line is getting pretty tired.

And what's a timely fashion? Ask 5 people and you will get 5 different answers. It's been 3 months, not a massive amount of time in game development. Unseen problems arise in game development that's unavoidable. I'm sure TellTale would like to have the episodes out themselves, so getting mad isn't going to fix anything.

The same thing came up with Irrational Games and their Bioshock DLC. It takes time to make quality game content. But people are impatient and when contents gets released early and it ends up being shit, people wonder why and bitch either way. It's a lose/lose for TellTale.

  • Why would I regret it? I'm getting Episode 2 when it comes out. I don't care how long it takes.

Do I wish they were communicating with us more? Of course, but I'm not going to bitch about it until they come out and say the game has been cancelled all together because as it is I am going to get a high quality product and I don't have to waste time fiddling about buying the bloody thing.

  • If u think it's bad in this lil forum go to the episode 2 release date one people are just all out raging wars in there i mean yes it does make me mad that we haven't heard anything about it but i mean thats why we have other things to take up the time to wait sitting on a website and just complaining is pointless when u could be playing another game while u wait i mean yes i bought the SP but the only time i will complain is if they cancelle the game then i will complain i want my money back so thats my take and i know here comes the down votes to

  • Heck no. Yes, I'd prefer sooner than later, but I'd prefer later and a good game than sooner and a rushed or sloppy game. It'll be out when it's out.

  • Hmm, I wonder how the folks from Telltale play their own games. Probably just the three-dot treatment.

  • I don't regret it, I still intend on getting the other episodes when TellTale finally move their asses so the delay is frustrating but I don't necessarily regret buying the season pass, it's less money to spend in the future.

  • im mad they put so much space between releases, but im glad i got the pass or $10

the reason behind the wait must be embarrassing to them, unless its on purpose

  • Honest to god Telltale has become a joke. I will never ever buy their products again and will be warning other people to do the same...

Alrighty, just starting this since I am about as fed up with Telltale treating their customers like mugs as everyone else, particularly with the lack of communication and constant delays on TWAU Episode 2 (or lack of).

I propose a group effort on behalf of the community to start aiming to hurt Telltale where it really hurts... ratings on their games and them as a studio.

For one, when the yearly gaming awards are released, instead of being suck up fans because their games are ultimately great -- factor in the exceptionally poor service from Telltale that has ruined their fan's experience with their games. I for one have long forgotten my choices in Ep 1 and can no longer say with any certainty that I would make the same ones. TWAU has been ruined by Telltale's complete and utter incompetance in releasing their games along any kind of reasonable schedule and should serve to warn others from buying their products in future.

In short, we can all do as follows:

    • DOWNrate Telltale games where it is possible.
    • Ignore Telltale's requests to vote for their games and select products from another studio instead.

Is it even remotely fair that they can continue to boast about their superior products when they clearly don't give a crap about the experience they are providing (only making money)?

    Over to you.

TellTales games does not even care about protests lol. It's anyone's fault who purchased the season pass and game early. No refunds allow. only thing they care about is the results of people's choices from the games. If your fed up play Minecraft while you wait or play something else. No use complaining to them when they don't care for complainers and inpatient people. Have a great day :)

  • The problem it's not about the season pass.
The problem is that delaying so much the episodes makes the whole episodic structure more fragile. It's easy now to detract and say that the episodic formula is a failure because it's hard to make content in a short frame of time.

Telltale team members doesn't help either. I know "Very Soon/ Soon / As soon as you can expect" could be fine for them, but as a customer I'd like to know also why.

Imagine a restourant where they don't bring your meal: you keep asking "why don't you bring my meal?" and they only answer "Very soon". If the answer would have been "We have huge requests, you have to wait a little longer" or "We've had problem with the oven" or "The cook hasn't arrived yet", you would have been more patient, or even help.

So, the question is: what's happening with TWAU? What kind of problems TT are facing? The fact that they doesn't tell us nothing means that the problem is huge (a legal one? The license wasn't renewed for 2014?) and maybe they cannot continue the series? Or it's just about content refinement?

Buying the season pass was good. But the lack of a proper TT release schedule, work plan and communication makes the whole experience a bit off.

  • I guess I didnt notice all this because I started the walking dead when all 5 episodes were out.

  • edited January 2014

The example with the restaurant is not optimal. Just as an example if you go to a diner you expect to get your meal within the next couple of minutes after the order. If you go to a more 'bigger' restaurant you are willing to wait about half an hour for a proper meal, because you know that's the time it can take.

But you mentioned exactly the root of the problem. How 'long' is too long for an episodic formula? Problem is, this 'line' is very personal. For some its a couple of weeks. For others more.

I've personally have no problem to wait 3 months or even more. Only a much bigger delay - I don't know, probably six months or so - with this feedback, would get problematic.

So till now I don't regret to have bought the season pass.

The problem it's not about the season pass. The problem is that delaying so much the episodes makes the whole episodic structure more fragile

  • I very much regret purchasing the season pass. The reason being I expected episode two to have come out long before episode one became free and the season pass price dropping. Basically, I now feel as though I wasted my money. If I had got episode 1 and season pass now I would be much happier than my day one purchase. It isn't like I would have missed anything by waiting. The walking dead season 1 was the first TTG I got once all 5 episodes had been released and I thought "wow this is great can't believed I missed out on this. Next time I'm going to get in when the release another game." Now I feel that was a horrible move.

  • Wrong. They're going to show us a picture of a wall from the game, in two months.... Okay maybe you were right.
