Do we doom ourselves?
One of the criticisms of Telltale appears to be the "illusion of choice" where no matter what path we go the same thing happens but perhaps we shouldn't blame the game makers but rather our peers. For instance, if a large majority of us declared loyalty to Margery perhaps our relationship would have ended up better regardless of future choices.

Nope, game makers shouldn't create games with choices if they won't create different paths with them. (Just my humble opinion)
Well yes I do think I choices could've mattered more but I have to say I was impressed with some of the choices and their effects in this game. Saving Rodrik or Asher, Determining Mira's fate, saving Bowen, Sending Erik to the Wall or sparing him, sparing Bloodsong etc. In my opinion these choices mattered more then the choices in TWD and TWAU. TFTB had a really good set choices that actually had good effects. In this game there were some choices that were kinda off for me. The knife choice for example seemed off to me because if Mira didnt keep the knife there would not be any evidence in proving the murder of the Lannister guard. And I agree that staying Loyal to Margery could've been more. But overall I did enjoy playing GoT.
No. I think it is Telltale that doom themselves. Why? Simply because they give us characters that we grow to love and care about, characters who face many trials in a rich and interesting world. We come to expect a high standard from them, because we have come to expect a high standard of writing, characters, world and story telling. Then the cracks start appearing when you realise that multiple choice doesn't mean that your story will take dramatically different paths than someone else who chose differently to you. Telltale says that the game is tailored to how you play. So in reality your choices are more about shaping the individual stories of the character you are playing at that moment. Don't get me wrong I'm not about to rant about how Telltale deceived us, because in my opinion they didn't. No telltale doom themselves because there is so much potential in their stories, but they hinder themselves because the physical capabilities limit what can actually be done.
