It actually won over 90, not 80. Telltale didn't update some of their promotional art, but they did say at several times that they even exceeded 90 GOTY Awards.
However, for context, keep in mind Walking Dead was the first tailored-choice adventure game of its kind, whereas nowadays, Telltale is using that gameplay style very frequently so many people won't view it in the same way they did the first time around.
It didn't win nearly as many as The Walking Dead: Season One, but, as Blind Sniper said above, it's not really a fair comparison since The Walking Dead: Season One was the first tailored choices game of its kind (there were games before it that were well received, like Heavy Rain, Telltale evolved the concept in their own style, and the public enjoyed it). So, it won so many awards simply because it was a novel concept at the time. Tales from the Borderlands did win more awards than The Walking Dead: Season Two though.
The jury is still out on some possible game of the year awards, since some of the big name sites in adventure gaming (like Adventure Gamers) don't do their Game of the Year awards until February.

The Walking Dead won over 80 GOY awards and is considered to be one of the best games of the seventh generation. I think that speaks for itself.
wow that's amazing
Not that many, I suppose.

TftB is still the better game, just has less hype going for it.
