Are most Northern Houses in the same boat of the Forresters right now?

Ok, I know this sounds like an obvious question, but I wanted to get your take on the situation of the North after the Red Wedding.

Most Nobles Houses end up losing their Lords as well as heirs. With the exception of the Boltons and their supporters, their armies are decimated.

Do you think the Forresters have it worse than other Houses (due to the Whitehills' rise in influence), or about the same?

And then there's the smallfolks across various Houses and towns, how do you think they're doing?

  • I think most lords left their first born heirs to lord the house whilst they were fighting the war. I believe it is stated at some point Lord Gregor to lord the house in his absence but "Rodrik would have none of it"

  • I'm sure there are Houses that support the Boltons but I'm sure a lot of the stubborn ones (considering they're Northeners) are having a tough time. But unlike the Forresters they're probably not having the temperature rise because of intense exchanges with a rival House.

  • Yeah I think @AgentZ46 nailed it.

Most Northern houses are suffering... but the Forresters are uniquely poorly off because they have a desirable resource (Ironwood) but are too small a house to avoid getting pushed around (e.g. Umbers or Manderlys) plus you have the rivalry with House Whitehill, staunch Bolton bannerman cough bastards cough who are keen to shit on the Forresters as much as possible.

So the Forresters are probably some of the worst off.

  • Yes and no. All of their militaries are in ruin, as are their financials, plus I doubt they're too keen on their new-found allegiance to House Bolton. However, few of them have desirable resources (like Ironwood), and few of them have powerful and wealthy rivals (like the Whitehills) so I think it's fair to say the Forrester's had it harder than most of the Northern Houses, perhaps all of them.

  • No. Robb's rebellion decimated armies other than presumably The Boltons(as they also betrayed Robb) and most likely their Vassals (whitehills etc.)like you said. The Forresters are in a situation similar to the Starks, Exiled, no nobility, no allies, nothing. The Forresters, like the Starks, have surviving members but no chance of regaining their old position. The Forresters have it the worst except for completely gone houses.
