Anybody else felt the game had little magic?**SPOILERS***

If you didn't play or finish this, you might want to stop reading .

I just finished episode one, and for some reason i can't say i loved it. Surely it is the running in the forest, the puzzles bored me... It lacked the definite charm of MI3 in my view. i litterally had to drag myself through the experience and i used a solution to finish it ( never used faqs for TTG's except some of the SBCG episodes ). No really interesting caracters for me but it did have a few quality moments ... Getting on the boat + seeing the doctor were two very nice parts... But for the rest... I can only hope that the next episode is better and that we don't see something like that jungle ever again... Not that it was hard, but it was DULL.

All in all, my biggest and only real disapointment from TellTale since they started. I vastly prefer Wallace and Gromit and Sam and Max.

Even though I really enjoyed this game, it feels that the amount of work per hour isn't close to previous games. But it's ok, I understand that this is what it's possible that we can get and it's really sweet considering this being close to a dead genre. However, I'm not going to pretend it's on the same shelf as MI2 and MI3 because everyone knows it isn't.

Exactly. I am really curious to see how it will measure up to the remake of MI1. I never got to play the original game so this will be interesting to say the least!

Guybrush looks horrible and he floats when he walks up/down. It's just a polish. The original MI 1 is the classic, recycling it is thankful- not like you can fail that bad.

Oh, you're in for a treat!

As for the first episode, well, it was so-so. I loved some parts but not as a whole. I didn't dislike it though and I didn't think it was dull at all. The story is on its way and hopefully the puzzles will get more interesting as we get to see more islands.

I think that the series hasn't quite gotten the heart of Monkey Island yet. But still, how can I compare a 3 to 4 hour game with the previous epics? They'll only be comparable when the series is complete.

I thought the game felt like a Monkey Island game in most aspects.
The humour, the characters and even the puzzles.

We look upon the MI games with nostalgia- especially #1,#2 and to a certain extent #3 (I remember at the time MI3 getting stick for being too cartoony).

In my opinion from playing part 1 of a 5 part game. Tales of Monkey Island is a good addition to the series and looks like being better than MI4 and feels more like a MI game than #4.

It feels pretty spot-on to me so far. :D

I like it a lot.... I didn't mind the jungle bits too much... But if they repeated it again for another episode I think I wouldn't like it too much.

why do people keep complaining about the jungle puzzle, while at the same time embracing the old ones? isn't the jungle puzzle almost exactly like the one in monkey island 1? (i just played it again so the answer is yes, case closed)

my point is: to me it was on par with the old ones. the only thing i got mad at was the pseudo interaction in certain dialouge (you all know which one i'm talking about), and some minor irritations about the un-piraty pirates. all in all though, it's ultimately a question of taste. 2d/3d, sound, french scientist vs. rastafari pirates etc.

i think it's time some one on this forum says: thanks ttg for a fine game!

    :)

Bought MI1:SE after I finished Tales Episode 1. I prefer the new one more than the original MI.

Episode one, in and of itself wasn't at par with the originals, but I'm damn confident that the whole series definately will be.
I didn't mind the jungle, and the only thing I disliked was that the puzzle difficulty level was at 4 instead of 5. Some people had to use the walkthrough, though - no offense.

Wrong. For one thing, this Jungle is 3D. Take that combined with the removal of point and click, and it's much more of a chore to move around in. Next, for one of the forest puzzles in Secret, all you have to do is follow someone and go where they go. You don't do this in Narwhel. Finally, the maps are much more complicated. In Secret, you were just old the direction. In Narwhel, following the animal sounds isn't bad, but then you add in arbitrary stuff like Guybrush having to wave an object over a feature in the environment, and then suddenly changing directions and camera angle when you try to use the weather vane to see where you're supposed to go. And I can't speak for anyone else, but my short term memory is bad. In the first game, I could consult the map three separate times and make it, with Narwhal I have to keep going back to the map to tell where I'm supposed to go.

Like it or lump it, to say that it's the same as in Secret is untrue.

to me it wasn't so different. i got lost a couple of times trying to figure out what left and right meant (relative to guybrush or the camera angle) in secret, just to find the X/treasure by accident in the end. looking at it that way the new junglepuzzle is an improvement. but I guess every one has different experiences.

I enjoyed it all the way through. I just didn't care for the character designs on the non-main characters and the shortness of the game itself.

Poll doen't really make sense - If it was on a par with the classics then it would be a lot better than OK.

I beleive the whole season will be on a par with the originals - that would make it amazing.

This new Monkey Island is really a nice game.
Of course it can't beat classics, but so far it seems to be much better than Escape From Monkey Island. I really enjoyed some puzzles, the idea of an audio map is great!

    Well done, Telltale!
    Countdown starts for Chapter 2...

Personally I was impressed and wowed by the game. It's amazing for a first episode. It's not going to hold up well as an episode to the other games because it's designed like a serial novel - you have "a" part. A lot of the magic in these games are story based.
