My impressions after playing Chapter I

edited July 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Hello everyone,

Just felt like sharing my opinion on Telltale's Monkey Island, mostly hoping that someone from Telltale might be reading this and perhaps they'll make this series even more enjoyable for me.

First of all I want to make it clear that I'm really happy that MI is continued after so many years. As for Telltale's approach I generally like what they did, now to be more specific.

Pros:
interesting puzzles
very good character voices
very nice graphics,

Cons:
character animation - I would definitely like it to be somewhat more serious, not so much puppet like as it is now - this is my biggest grief with this product
pauses while changing locations (this game isn't that big after all)
the new interface needs some getting used to, I found it a tad tedious at times
introduction of the French doctor - this placed the reality of this game too close to ours while it was much more of a swashbuckling tale before

Overall it's a really good continuation of the series and I'm happy to have played it. If I could change but one thing it would be definitely that puppet like animation of characters. Otherwise I don't have any strong objections as to how telltale pictured yet another adventure of Guybrush.

I loved marquis de singe! best new adition to the mi universe since the goodsoup family, imo. a perfect charicature of the french aristocracy of the time. hope to see him again in future episodes :)

the only thing I didn't like was the way you had to move around the jungle; finding a location from which you could exit to the map, then clicking on the next location and wait, wait, wait for guybrush to move through the foliage. there should at least be a way to skip the moving around part. eugh!

    ..no biggie though...
