Ned Stark PTSD 1x03 connected to Season 6 trailer

edited April 2016 in Game Of Thrones

Man some people have a brilliant eye for detail (somebody on Reddit). The writers also have a pretty good memory as this must have been a plan for a LONG time. I saw on reddit that somebody noticed a connection between Ned Stark's PTSD moment from the ending of Lord Snow and how the sticks start sounding like actual swords and then theres this shot that looks oddly familiar now that they've sort of revealed it in the trailer for Season 6. I really don't know if they thought people would actually remember this moment from all the way back in Season One but it is a cool little detail.

You're Dead

Tower of Joy

Very very cool if it actually what Ned was thinking about at the time he was observing Arya practicing and that's why he was so put off because the exchange because it reminded him of the exchange between these two. Also Lyanna was present at the ToJ which we know and it is said (at least in the books) that Arya and Lyanna were very similar.

  • It's supposed to make him understand that war is coming in this episode of season 1.
Being stabbed in the guts happens a lot in the series, so coincidence.

I agree that it's most likely coincidence, but the connection wouldn't be just that someone is stabbed in the guts - it's that someone is stabbed in the guts on this particular moment that is important for Ned's character (the gut stabbing isn't obviously the most important part of the moment :D).

And I also think that as much as he might be thinking about a coming war on that scene, I think it's also referring to his memories from Robert's Rebellion and all the shit he has seen in war (like gut stabbing xD).

  • I don't think it's coincidence. The first season was very deliberate in what they showed and didn't show.

Definitely think they were eluding to Ned's past, maybe not just the ToJ but for sure it was the first of many Easter eggs. Just like all the animal symbolism in the first episode. The dire wolve family being separated, the stag getting killed by the lion and there's probably more I am forgetting but season one was definitely calculated.

  • The deer thing was planned in books, not by DD.

  • Well Mr Martin was definitely involved in the earlier seasons so I don't think that effects my point

  • He's definitely not involved in the two last seasons, so you compare the works of two different people.
Not sure if you get my point.

  • Oh you mean even if he intended to do that, he's not involved in the show anymore and it's probably coincidence since he isn't a producer anymore

Well maybe Double Dee always knew about this happening in the show and even if it's been awhile it could still be connected. It's not like they aren't talking to George about his story
