Bran and the Mad King

WARNING: THIS THEORY CONTAINS SERIOUS SPOILERS FOR SEASON 6 EPISODE 5.

I have this theory on why Aerys Targaryean went mad and I think Bran is the reason why Aerys Targaryean went mad. Bran was trying to warn him about the WW. Remember the mad king always said to "Burn them. Burn them all." And you have to burn the bodies to stop them from turning into weights. If this theory is true that means Bran effectively shaped Westeros into what it is now. What if Bran told Aerys that the only way to stop the WW was to "Burn them all." Aerys always said he heard whispers and Bran has made his own father sort of hear him during the Tower of Joy flashback. It's also possible that Aerys only made out a few words of what Bran was whispering to him and he only really heard "Burn them all." and never heard about the WW.

What do you guys think? Seeing as how Bran affected Hodor, this sort of thing is possible.

  • Totally possible mate. I personally love the idea, that would explain a lot.

It would be really dumb that Show-Bran would try to warn him while he knew the effects after what he did with Hodor.

Also the Mad King wasn't hodoring; he still had his mind, even if very tormented. Burning them all is simply the words of a man obsessed with fire, fire being the weapon of the creature on his sigil.

Madness is a common trait in the Targaryen's legacy. Say hello to Aerion.

Why he doesn't go back to when he lose his legs because of the fall and tell himself "don't climb the fucking incestuous tower"?

  • Actually I really like the idea, it makes a lot of sense. It probably wouldn't have the same "hodor" effect on Aerys because hodor was more susceptible to it, being a disabled young boy. Aerys would probably still retain consciousness and speech but would be driven mad by it instead.

I don't know why Bran would choose Aerys though, of all people, unless that's just the timeline he finds himself in. Also, he's seen the effects of influencing the past, I don't think he would try it again, unless again, it is more outside himself. Like when Meera told Hodor to hold the door, maybe somebody in the present outside of Bran is ordering to "burn them all" when referencing the wights, like Jon Snow or someone at the Wall. That I think would be more plausible but would still work with that idea.
