I've seen a fair number of posts about the Treasure hunt aspect of the Tales of Monkey Island game, in an attempt to anwser most of them i've made this post.

NOTICE: This contains a fair amount of spoilers, so to the people who wanna figure it all out over the natural course of time >>> STOP READING NOW <<<

Ok, at the date of the Original Post of this topic July 28, 2009 there are only 2 map that can (officially be found) i say officially cause actually there are 6 Totems you can unlock on the Treasure Hunt website after you use the correct codes on the totem puzzle.

I'm not going to give you the Correct Combinations to unlock thoose 4 extra Totems, what i will do is tell you what thoose totems offer you as rewards.

1) SHUTTLEMOC: Gives you the Voodoo Lady Wallpapers
2) ESK'RGOH: Gives you Avatars
3) THINKIKAN: Gives you the same Avatars as Esk'rgoh (for some reason)
4) DSHRAHG: Gives you a $5 coupon code you can use on an order that costs at least $8.95 in the store
5) VRUM: Gives you a 50% reduction code you can use when you buy a single episode from the store
6) OWCHEE: Gives you a 50% reduction code you can use when you buy an entire Season from the store (not to be used on Tales of Monkey Island itself)
7) IKKPTOO: Gives you the Same reward (50% discout on a full season) as Owchee. This Treasure map was officially released with the Telltale Interloper e-mail Newsletter.
8) HAIGHNO: Gives you access to the "Caribbean Journal" a *.PDF file full of Concept Art. (Adobe Reader needed to open the *.PDF file)

These 6 totems can be unlocked 2 by doing the subsequent maps in game (thoose give you Shuttlemoc & Esk'rgoh, the other 4 can be won through various combinations on the totem puzzle.

Solving the Totem Puzzle:
Every tier of the Puzzle has got 4 different parts so thats a nice amount of possible combo's you can try out. The best way for getting them all is assigning numbers to each and solve em all in sequence like:

Top: 1
Middle: 1
Bottom: 1

Then Do:

Top: 1
Middle: 1
Bottom: 2

And so forth till you get it all down to 4.
Soon you'll have done all combo's and you can start using your Rewards.

I hope this solved some questions!!!

I did a similar 'combination-lock' thing to go through all possible options, using a list where A B C D were the eyes, 1 2 3 4 the noses, and Circle Square Triangle X were the mouths (what can I say, I'm a Sony console gamer at heart :D)

Through this method I got 15 'correct' combinations, and ended up with 6 maps unlocked on the website. I did do the two original maps in-game (SHUTTLEMOC and ESK'RGOH) but also ended up with another (IKKPTOO) because I subscribe to the Telltale 'Interloper' newsletter thing.

All up, here's the maps I have and their prizes:
    SHUTTLEMOC - Wallpaper, ESK'RGOH unlocked
ESK'RGOH - Monkey Island Avatar set
THINKIKAN - Monkey Island Avater set (same as above)
DSHRAHG - Coupon code, $5 off orders of $8.95 or more
VRUM - Coupon code, 50% off a single episode purchase
OWCHEE - Coupon code, 50% off a full-season purchase, excluding Monkey Island
IKKPTOO - Coupon code, 50% off a full-season purchase, excluding Monkey Island (same as above)

So, obviously the rewards and randomised, at least not for the current ones. My treasure hunt page is still left with one blank square though, which is odd.

Anyone else seen other stuff yet?
  • edited July 2009
I've had the same stuff. I was a bit miffed at first, as originally, it seemed to have 11 boxes, which rapidly got shortened down to 7 and one blank one.

And the double prizes were a little perplexing too.

Although, I really hope this continues throughout the full season of TOMI, when Sam and Max 3 rolls round, I should be paying less than half price!!

Although I like the coupons I'd prefer they integrate stuff like this in the game. I'd rather unlock ingame costumes, joke items, maybe paint jobs for your ingame ship etc...

Also since it would never give me the 3rd map I resorted to trying all the combinations. Now I have no incentive to use the actual maps in game. Which would of been more enjoyable then spinning the totem pole over and over. I know my fault. No one to blame , but myself. But I could not resist. There must be some kind of Monkey island voodoo spell involved

I think it's pretty inevitable for anyone playing this game.. I mean seriously, point-and-click-adventure gamers here, guys! It's in our nature to try every combination when presented with a puzzle! After all, that's how you play these games half the time: "What if I use Item A on the puzzle? No, OK, how about Item B? Item C?" and so on and so on.

Telltale had to suspect some of us, a good chunk, would try it this way, haha.

I don't know if you meant "are" or "are not" randomized, but just FYI they are not randomized. I got the same exact rewards as those reported here by some of you guys. And I do have the final blank square there too.

I only have three codes the first two then the one unlocked through the newsletter.. since most people have already unlocked the prizes are they still going to put up all the new maps?
  • edited August 2009
This is all informative and nice and all, and I'm thankful for it really, but anybody mention the descriptions of each of the tiki idols? I mean, that's part of the reason I went out of my way to get some even if I had already earned the reward from a previous idol.

Just in case, I'm going to list them here and if it's troublesome I'm sure someone can delete my post or I can edit it out.

SHUTTLEMOC: God of the Breeze that Ruins Badminton Matches
ESK'RGOH: God of the Winds that Creep Like a Snail
THINKIKAN: The Little Wind God that Could
DSHRAHG: Goddess of Zesty Lemony Zephyrs
VRUM: God of Breezes that Tickle your Nosehairs
OWCHEE: Goddess of Winds that Blow Small Pebbles into your Face
IKKPTOO: God of Curiously Viscous Winds

Updating the OP with this fine piece of information!
  • edited August 2009
That is weird... Maybe we caught it before they;d finished setting up this reward? Could be linked to the Episode 2 release, but seems awful early to be setting up for it too.

In any case it's added to the OP as soon as a reward is added i'll update.

PS: If your piece of information is the first in the topic you'll get credited in the Update Log (seems only fair).
PPS: I'll check if the information is correct before adding it to the OP so don't claim things that aren't true or i might just ignore you for the rest of the topic.

Sorry, didn't see the time stamp on your edited relpy... Next time just make a new reply... keeps it easier otherwise i gotta read over every reply ever given and mishaps will happen then.

Anyway the error is corrected if honor is to be given to someone it at least must be given to the right person!

Usually I would repost - although I dunno what the TTG forums' stance is on double-posting - but that one was just a spelling correction for a typo or two.

Anyways, anyone find any more winning combinations? I retried the positive combinations I had that didn't give any new listings, finding the one for HAIGHNO on the way, but no others came up. Did TTG give a window for how often new codes would arrive at any point? I have seven wining combos left that don't give a result.

Averaging them out over the time until the end of the series would give us two a month, including the surfacing of HAIGHNO as one of the August offerings, but that doesn't count the other combinations that haven't been 'officially' posted anywhere. Has anyone seen any of those combinations anywhere across the web? Not really sure where we are meant to be looking for them anyway!
  • edited August 2009
they HAD to know we would...there's only 64 possible combinations...doesnt take very long to go through them all

Do the 50% off season codes work on Season Upgrades?

No, you'll have to just buy the full season and pay half of that. I assume, like me, you used your free episode and now you want the full season?
  • edited August 2009
Right... all slots filled. Now we wait to see what appears as the prize for the final one!

I assume Haighno will be either $5 off an order or 50% off an episode, since the rewards for PC and Wii are supposed to be the same.

Is the prize this one already available for Wii users then? Otherwise, I've got a feeling it might be a free episode and the code will only work for a very short time so that it doesn't end up spread around the internet.

That would definitely be a Yes. Although if I had an extra single episode coupon I could just buy 2 episodes of Strong Bad since I already have the first 2 episodes on Wii.

Hmm you could also put out a plea for an episode code donation? I guess there are plenty of people who already have the entire catalogue and it's unlikely those codes will still work when Telltale launch a new series.

I sorta skimmed over the thread itself, but I'm wondering if it would be possible to post how to get the maps without messing around the code thing? It seems a bit cheap to me to just use that instead of finding the maps themselves.

At the moment we're not really sure, to be honest. Of the maps we have found, the only 'properly' found ones are SHUTTLEMOC and ESK'RGOH, which are the ones there when you start, and IKKPTOO which you get if you were subscribed to the Telltale newsletter when they announced the game. The rest are meant to be hidden across different websites or something, not really sure.

I was thinking that myself, doesnt seem right to just go "guessing" the codes.

I thought that too, I've been scouring the file for any clues but can't find anything! I wonder if there's anything to be made of the notes. It's cool regardless.

I still think there will be a prize related to the Journal, maybe using some of the phrases in it to solve some clever pirate themed puzzles. I'd hope so anyway, I've never been a fan of the whole concept art thing. Free episodes are much nicer.

I just completed the second treasure hunt but didn't get a new map, any idea?

HAIGHNO was added on MixNMojo Behind, just as on the Interloper :)

Ok, So I have unlocked the first two Maps, By doing them in the Treasure hunt part of the game..

Are those the only two offically released on the PC version? (To date).

I did play around on the Tiki thing when I downloaded the game cause I thought thats what we had to do by guessing .
& Managed to unlock A journal one.
(Dont know whether I was supposed to do that though).

    That correct?
