Better Fight Sequence? Penguin or Harvey - Guardian of Gotham Spoilers

So, I just got done playing through episode 4 again,. and I got to say I much preferred going to Wayne Tech to stop Penguin in terms of the fight sequence. I still think going to Wayne Manor is the better choice, but goddamn that was a good brawl. I enjoyed an up close and personal brawl compared to long range with Harvey, it felt more satisfying and it didn't try to explode my laptop, also features a MUCH better ending (I really don't like the Wayne Manor cliffhanger), but that's subjective.

Which fight did you prefer (just speaking about the fight).

  • I love the fight with Oz! They felt so evenly matched. Batman would throw a punch and Penguin would immediately throw one right back. It was so epic.

The Harvey fight was more emotional, he actually has you beat at one point and Bruce knew it. "Harvey, please!"

I personally preferred the fight with Oz. Though I'm slightly disappointed I picked it because he's my favourite character and it seems that he'll be out of the picture in episode 5.

  • I haven't played through again to see what happens at the Manor, but the sequence with Penguin was smooth, intense, and brutal. The gloves were a good idea to shore up his size disadvantage. :D And Batman completely fucking up his leg-- sound FX were deliciously cringey.

Then the line about him not being a pawn, but a soldier. Was a nice period at the end of the long, punchy sentence

  • Well... I found the Batman vs Oz quite... good animations, poor choreography.

Batman that runs toward a man with a shotgun, and takes 3 shots in the chest without a scratch and take the man down...?!?
And Batman takes multiple iron-fists from Oz, also without a scratch...!?!?!

  • Him charging the gunman I'll give you, but I dunno, I recall that Bats was bleeding rather profusely after getting clobbered by the gloves. Maybe there could have been few teeth flying, but maybe he's got Invisible Batmouthguard. :)

  • I played both, and I have to say...

I got fucking goosebumps when he pulled a Year One and called in a swarm of bats.

    It was fucking awesome.

  • Tough call but I loved giving oz his limp.

It seems I'm in the minority here. While I haven't played the scene at Wayne Enterprises, I've watched various videos.

I found the strife you had there with Harvey to just be amazing. Once Bruce pressed the Bat button on his gauntlet, shit got real. Bats were flying everywhere, and Batman kept flipping around amid this chaos, stopping men that were rushing at him from all directions. Words cannot describe how epic this felt for me.

Also, seeing Alfred shooting with that gun? My eyes will never forget such badassery. Harvey's body getting burnt in the shootout? I was flipping out, and kind of in the good way. His face getting burnt would have been a terrible decision in my opinion, but this was alright. It added a lot to the panicked, fearful, action-packed atmosphere. I would say my poor nerves, for they consumed me entirely at this point in the fight, but I'd say Harvey's were quite more damaged than mine.

Also, the entire fight held this emotional charge that the one with Penguin really wouldn't have brought on. This guy that you were fighting with was your best bro. I was fighting for my life, but I really didn't want to.

I knew it was irrational, but when Harvey took that huge ass gun (him whipping that thing out for the first time was just...damn) up to Alfred and began flipping for "his head or his heart", I became genuinely worried for the old guy.

Technically, these thoughts accompanied the fight itself and not the entire ending, so this works, right?

  • Well oz was your best bro at one point too

True, true. But as a member of the audience, you were able to possibly develop much more of a fondness towards Harvey. You experienced the better times before things went downhill. You saw his good sides, instead of only his bad sides. You got to see the bro-iness on screen, instead of just being informed of its existance. As for Bruce himself, I'm sure the situation with Oz felt more complicated than it did for some players.

  • Well yeah but it's the difference between a childhood friend you haven't seen in like fifteen years or more versus your best friend from literally a week ago. And Oz doesn't seem to be mentally ill, he's acting out of bitterness and vengeance and knows exactly what he's doing. He's striking out at you while his real beef is with your father but being at Selina's apartment in your underwear, no matter what else happened, is all you. Harvey just needs to be saved from himself.

Yeah, the only positive feelings Bruce harbors towards Oz are completely based on nostalgia. They may have been close at one point, long ago, but now they are just very distant. Bruce likely loathes Oz and regards childhood Oz as an entirely separate being. (Funnily, same could be said for Harvey here. With the second point of seeing a mainly different person. This seems up to choice though) Possibly there's sympathy, and some pain when reminiscing of those days long ago, but their current established connection would be weaker than the one he had more recently forged and witnessed the destruction of with Harvey. But you could always interpret things differently, I suppose.

  • I decided to go to Wayne Manor and boy I was I happy with my decision. The fight scene was absolutely amazing! So many emotions were running through me, I genuinely didn't want to fight Harvey. But alas it had to happen and when Batman used the bats in the fight I was cheering. I was scared that Alfred was going to get injured or possibly killed in the fight so it was a big relief when he didn't. When it was all over I told Harvey that I still saw good in him. I want to see him redeem himself and come back from what he's done, it would be great to see the real harvey again.

As for the Penguin fight, I thought it was interesting. It was more of a close quarters fight compared to the harvey fight. It was amazing to finally put Penguin in his place after all the things he's done. The Penguin fight for me was epic and badass. The Penguin fight was more of a stop the criminal fight while the Harvey fight was more of a save Alfred, and try to save a friend from himself fight.

All in all I loved both choices and I can't wait to see the effect this choice has on the next episode!

  • I liked the fight with Oz the best.

  • I watched the Penguin fight on Youtube and played the Harvey fight in my game and i'm voting for the Harvey fight. I love the choke slam from midair that ends the fight.

  • The fight with Penguin felt more brutal and mano-a-mano, while the fight with Two-Face/Harvey was more emotionally impactful and satisfying to the story, in my opinion, with all the build-up to a confrontation with Harvey over how far off the rails he's become.

It was satisfying to finally beat the snot out of Penguin, but not as much as stopping Harvey and saying "I still believe in Harvey Dent" before Gordon comes to cart him off.

  • I really wish that I chose the Wayne Manor fight as my first option instead of the Wayne Enterprise fight. Don't get me wrong, fighting the Penguin and defeating was satisfying and cool. But the fight against Two-Face have a stronger conclusion to his story.

It has a good bookend. The first episode started out with both Bruce and Harvey being friends and having big dreams for Gotham. Bruce hosted a fundraiser for Harvey in his home. Then jump to Episode 4 we see what has happened between them since then. Harvey has become Two-Face and seeks to destroy Bruce's home. Bruce is forced to fight his fallen friend as Batman. Both men are in their alter-ego persona in their fight.

Their fight takes place where both of their story began and serve to highlight the tragedy of their friendship.

  • I liked Wayne manor better because it creates more suspense because you don't want Alfred to die and there are some close calls. You also don't really want to hit Harvey well unless your one of thier people who don't like him so I like it because I was shaking a little.

The way I see it, the scene with the Penguin is a better fight scene, but the scene with Harvey is a better action scene.

With the Penguin, it's more of an actual fight. With Harvey, it's mostly taking out his Enforcers and running from his explosive slug AA-12 (which is a pretty terrifying combination, I should add). You're not really fighting Harvey directly. Both great scenes in their own right, but strictly in terms of a fight, I'd go for the Penguin.

  • I loved crippling Penguin...that leg will never be the same lol. Now I have to go take care of Harvey and Lady Arkham next episode...so good.

  • I took down Oswald so I could see more of Harvey in the next episode. I really want to know what his role will be. If he's in most of the story alongside Lady Arkham, I'll be overjoyed.

You hear that, Telltale? Give me my Harvey fix!

  • I liked the Harvey fight alot more to be honest, I feel like the tension was way more high.

Alfred is there and we want him to be safe, its in our house, and we get tackled down and actually almost lose.
