Have you played every Monkey Island??
Don't know about the rest of you but I'm looking forward to the new chapter
Is it just me or was the 1st pretty easy?? Having played all the games the puzzles seem pretty simple. After all the crazy stuff they've had us all doing in the past the stupid stuff seemed the most logical.
Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Day of the Tenticle... the list goes on lol. Love these kinda games so played them all.
I did the 1st chapter in a few hours. Needs to be a bit harder lol
But its awesome to see Monkey Island back out there!!

And also tons of point & click adventures from LucasArts, Telltale, Revolution, and many more.
It's true Tales of MI chapter 1 is not very hard, but keep in mind it is also meant for players new to the MI series (especially since it's been 9 years since the last game). The difficulty will increase as the Tales unfold, like it did in Telltale's other series
That's one of the truly underrated qualities of the Monkey Island franchise and one reason I feel like it was a good idea for them to not be enumerated. While they have a specific order, they all follow the epic formula of starting in medias res so you can really jump into any of them regardless of which others you have played. Unless you're a stickler like me who likes to have played all the old games before the new one comes out, like I did with Super Mario Bros. before New Super Mario Bros. came out which is entirely pointless:D.
According to everyone else on the forums you're not missing anything. I would know though. I played LeChuck's Revenge and thought that it was the end of the series so I never played curse or escape.
I think she's saying that she hasn't played Secret, Revenge, or Curse, which means most people on this forum would berate her. Personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal, I loved Escape although I would recommend the others considering I do think they are better.
Me too!!! I even watched some people making movies of Monkey Island... I still remember a very disturbing one which was responsible for my monkey-in-my-pocket-syndrom.....
My Dad bought the original for me and my wee sister in 1990-ish to keep us quiet on rainy Saturdays when my mum was at work...little did he know that almost 20 years later we would both get this excited over a new one coming out!! We were excited enough when the second one came out...
FYI, im a her
Fixed it.
Thanks. But your right, Escape was my first and until now, only.. though i did get the remake the other day and am currently playing through that. Hopefully someday ill be able to play the others, although until then, theres always Youtube!
Haha no problem. I really hope LucasArts remakes LeChuck's Revenge or at least puts it on Steam so people can download and play it legally. Heck, the talk in the other thread about an Escape from Monkey Island: Director's Cut actually sounds incredible so maybe they should just remake all of them!
I still think Escape is fine just the way it is
Ah, yes. You're right. That's what I get for not fully reading the post.
I tend to agree with you, but it did have some very strange plot holes and continuity issues that you will probably notice if you play through the old games. Also, the community seems to really despise Monkey Kombat. I also think it could use a cursor to point and click on things making the controls more like ToMI.
I second that
The only thing that annoyed me about Monkey Kombat was the fight with Jojo Jr. He got to go first and almost never made any stupid mistakes so in essence you had to tie with him at just the right times in order to beat him. And that battle was so long and you had to start completely over every time. I don't despise it, it just got a tad bit annoying at times.
Maybe LA will remake it 20 years from now...
But I've never actually finished Escape. And until recently, I hadn't finished LeChuck's Revenge (something about a
After I finished the first episode of Tales, I went back and started playing the old ones through again. I'm a bit over halfway through Curse right now--I'll force myself to make it through Escape this time, I'm sure.
1 and 3 are my favorite. 2 comes in next, 4th last. So far this 5th installment is tied with 1 and 3 in my fav list.
Secret of MI was my first true introduction to adventure games besides Maniac Mansion which I never had pataince for as a young kid, so MI being my first it took me and two other people [young adults btw] about 2 weeks to complete so we didnt find it too easy. I'd say 2 had some pretty tough moments as well.
3 isn't too difficult unless you play the Mega Monkey version, then it definately has a couple spots that might get you stuck, especially before you get off the starter island.
I need to play 4 again but can't find another copy, it's been a while.
Oh yeah I've also played Full Throttle, Sam & Max of course, and some other old adventure game where you travel through time and end up in the colonial era but don't remember the name. Oh and Discworld!! I almost forgot! Anyone ever play Discworld? That one was great!
I agree the first episode of ToMI could've been a little more challenging but I'm assuming the difficulty will increase as the episodes come out, like it did in Season 1 of Sam and Max.
Could it be you're talking about Simon The Sorcerer?
The Discworld games were awesome idd
I loved Discworld. The first episode had amazing backgrounds and musics, the atmosphere was really magic. It was also one of the hardest point'n'click adventures I ever played (as I mentionned in another topic, some puzzles like "open a mouse to get an imp" were just awful). I didn't think much of Discworld II. But I loved Discworld Noir, that was an amazing game. I'd really like to see a new Discworld adventure game, perhaps closer to the actual books.
haha, me too! I played escape first, then got Curse from a friend and played it, then got 1 and 2 on scumm VM and played them through. Then I played S&M and DotT (which is the only one I never finished). But before all of them, the game that got me started on this whole adventure thing, was Grim Fandango. IMO the best adventure game ever made.
Before this year the only monkey island i had ever played (and this seems to be common place in this topic) was MI4... which i thought was okay but the controls were a bit irritating. But that sparked an interest and i researched the other games, at that time, mi1 and 2 seemed too old, and mi3 wasn't availible anywhere so that's where it ended.
Then when tales came out I went MI crazy and got all 3 of the 1st games.
I finished mi1 (with a bit of help, the file in the cake and i never saw the nose of the totem pole) and i'm struggling with mi2, stuck in the tri-island area trying not 2 look at any hints. And in 3 im stuck on blood island.
But they are all really awesome. i didnt see much wrong with mi4 cos i never got to monkey combat and i didnt know the story line.
Has any1 played through and finished the games without any help?
I think the store and library were by far the worst part of the game. They were both just a HUGE pile of red herrings, and it was really annoying to figure out.
I even played through the horrible, godawful joke of a 4th game.
