Have you played every Monkey Island??

Don't know about the rest of you but I'm looking forward to the new chapter :)

Is it just me or was the 1st pretty easy?? Having played all the games the puzzles seem pretty simple. After all the crazy stuff they've had us all doing in the past the stupid stuff seemed the most logical.
Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Day of the Tenticle... the list goes on lol. Love these kinda games so played them all.
I did the 1st chapter in a few hours. Needs to be a bit harder lol :D
But its awesome to see Monkey Island back out there!!

Welcome to the forums! Yes, I have played every Monkey Island game + many many fangames as well. :D

Sadly no:( I've only played launch of the screaming narwhal. Thank you Telltale for making it with newcomers in mind. I have been thinking about getting monkey island special edition, and escape for PS2 as well

I played every Monkey Island game, several times :D
And also tons of point & click adventures from LucasArts, Telltale, Revolution, and many more.
It's true Tales of MI chapter 1 is not very hard, but keep in mind it is also meant for players new to the MI series (especially since it's been 9 years since the last game). The difficulty will increase as the Tales unfold, like it did in Telltale's other series :)

That's one of the truly underrated qualities of the Monkey Island franchise and one reason I feel like it was a good idea for them to not be enumerated. While they have a specific order, they all follow the epic formula of starting in medias res so you can really jump into any of them regardless of which others you have played. Unless you're a stickler like me who likes to have played all the old games before the new one comes out, like I did with Super Mario Bros. before New Super Mario Bros. came out which is entirely pointless:D.

Yep, played them all and loved them all (even Escape which had more than a few dodgy moments). MI2 was one of the first games that really stuck with me. The art, the music the writing: everything just worked with that game. CMI is also a damn fine looking game - sadly lost that one so haven't played it since it was released! Launch of the Screaming Narwhal was very enjoyable - it feels like there are shades of LeChuck's Revenge throughout which is fantastic. Bring on Chapter 2!

According to everyone else on the forums you're not missing anything. I would know though. I played LeChuck's Revenge and thought that it was the end of the series so I never played curse or escape.

I think she's saying that she hasn't played Secret, Revenge, or Curse, which means most people on this forum would berate her. Personally, I don't think it's that big of a deal, I loved Escape although I would recommend the others considering I do think they are better.

Me too!!! I even watched some people making movies of Monkey Island... I still remember a very disturbing one which was responsible for my monkey-in-my-pocket-syndrom.....

I've played them all - the first Monkey Island I had was still on the big old b: disc floppies that you had to lock in and unlock to get out. I still have it - surely it's a collectors item by now :)
My Dad bought the original for me and my wee sister in 1990-ish to keep us quiet on rainy Saturdays when my mum was at work...little did he know that almost 20 years later we would both get this excited over a new one coming out!! We were excited enough when the second one came out...

Played them all and still have them all. Although I just recently purchased the remake of Monkey island 1. Love these types of games.

Yes, I've played all-but I started backwords-ha ha. I played Escape 1st-in Chinese (I lived in China and my friend bought it for me-it was hilarious because my Chinese sucks. The characters spoke English but all the convo choices were in Chinese-it was a bit difficult...) Then, I played Curse (in English :-)) Then, I bought tthe package on Amazon that had the 1st 3 and played those-and then sold it on Amazon for more money-woohoo. Now, it's ridiculously expensive.

Haha no problem. I really hope LucasArts remakes LeChuck's Revenge or at least puts it on Steam so people can download and play it legally. Heck, the talk in the other thread about an Escape from Monkey Island: Director's Cut actually sounds incredible so maybe they should just remake all of them!

I still think Escape is fine just the way it is

I tend to agree with you, but it did have some very strange plot holes and continuity issues that you will probably notice if you play through the old games. Also, the community seems to really despise Monkey Kombat. I also think it could use a cursor to point and click on things making the controls more like ToMI.

Monkey Kombat was brilliant! We'd already had insult swordfighting, rhyming insult swordfighting, ship battles - what was wrong with a bit of EEK ARP CHEE or whatever it was? As soon as you gridded it out it worked fine...

The only thing that annoyed me about Monkey Kombat was the fight with Jojo Jr. He got to go first and almost never made any stupid mistakes so in essence you had to tie with him at just the right times in order to beat him. And that battle was so long and you had to start completely over every time. I don't despise it, it just got a tad bit annoying at times.

Yeah - I think I just loved it for the old style 'Mortal Kombat' graphics :) I do hope they come up with another good fighting method, especially with the added interest of an evil cursed voodoo hand in the mix...

Maybe LA will remake it 20 years from now... :)

I've played all the Monkey Island games so far, including Tales Episode 1 and SoMI:SE.

But I've never actually finished Escape. And until recently, I hadn't finished LeChuck's Revenge (something about a
    monkey wrench
    and a
    hand making arbitrary signals
    ).

After I finished the first episode of Tales, I went back and started playing the old ones through again. I'm a bit over halfway through Curse right now--I'll force myself to make it through Escape this time, I'm sure.

Of course I've played them all, ya steamin' souffle!
  • edited August 2009
I've played them all and they are all excellent. Even Escape From Monkey Island. There were many things I liked about that one, including bringing back Carla the SwordMaster and Otis. Also the island with the Starbuccaneers and Planet Threepwood - I thought those names were so clever!

I've played them all. I love them all, but I'll admit I hate the Monkey Kombat in 4.

1 and 3 are my favorite. 2 comes in next, 4th last. So far this 5th installment is tied with 1 and 3 in my fav list.

Secret of MI was my first true introduction to adventure games besides Maniac Mansion which I never had pataince for as a young kid, so MI being my first it took me and two other people [young adults btw] about 2 weeks to complete so we didnt find it too easy. I'd say 2 had some pretty tough moments as well.

3 isn't too difficult unless you play the Mega Monkey version, then it definately has a couple spots that might get you stuck, especially before you get off the starter island.

I need to play 4 again but can't find another copy, it's been a while.

Oh yeah I've also played Full Throttle, Sam & Max of course, and some other old adventure game where you travel through time and end up in the colonial era but don't remember the name. Oh and Discworld!! I almost forgot! Anyone ever play Discworld? That one was great!

I agree the first episode of ToMI could've been a little more challenging but I'm assuming the difficulty will increase as the episodes come out, like it did in Season 1 of Sam and Max.

Could it be you're talking about Simon The Sorcerer?

The Discworld games were awesome idd :D

Yeah played em all, all great games. Playing Escape ignoring the story does have its perks but as it is, i understand why people have qualms about it

I loved Discworld. The first episode had amazing backgrounds and musics, the atmosphere was really magic. It was also one of the hardest point'n'click adventures I ever played (as I mentionned in another topic, some puzzles like "open a mouse to get an imp" were just awful). I didn't think much of Discworld II. But I loved Discworld Noir, that was an amazing game. I'd really like to see a new Discworld adventure game, perhaps closer to the actual books.

haha, me too! I played escape first, then got Curse from a friend and played it, then got 1 and 2 on scumm VM and played them through. Then I played S&M and DotT (which is the only one I never finished). But before all of them, the game that got me started on this whole adventure thing, was Grim Fandango. IMO the best adventure game ever made.

i have had a taste of all of them but sadly the only 1 i have finished it MI1. Oh and tales episode 1.
Before this year the only monkey island i had ever played (and this seems to be common place in this topic) was MI4... which i thought was okay but the controls were a bit irritating. But that sparked an interest and i researched the other games, at that time, mi1 and 2 seemed too old, and mi3 wasn't availible anywhere so that's where it ended.
Then when tales came out I went MI crazy and got all 3 of the 1st games.
I finished mi1 (with a bit of help, the file in the cake and i never saw the nose of the totem pole) and i'm struggling with mi2, stuck in the tri-island area trying not 2 look at any hints. And in 3 im stuck on blood island.

But they are all really awesome. i didnt see much wrong with mi4 cos i never got to monkey combat and i didnt know the story line.

Has any1 played through and finished the games without any help?

Yup, many times but MI2 is still my fave. I loved buying crap from the shops and rooting through the Phatt island library and giggling as the woman in the chair went "Wheeeee!"

I think the store and library were by far the worst part of the game. They were both just a HUGE pile of red herrings, and it was really annoying to figure out.

are we talking herrings in the spiritual sense or the physical sense?

I played all of them. The first was my first video game, and I played through the first and second with my dad, and loved them. Picked up the third in '97, and while I missed Gilbert and the slightly more "serious" feel of the first two, I loved it, and the art style was great.

I even played through the horrible, godawful joke of a 4th game.

I own all of them, and I've beaten all of them thus far as well. My introduction came when my cousin had the SOMI CD Edition that came with his computer. I used to go over to his house and play it. This was about 15 years ago. Now, I own the Monkey Madness CD (the one with SOMI and LCR), CMI, EMI, and of course Episode I of TOMI. To this day, SOMI remains my all-time favorite game (regardless of platform or genre).
