Things to do while in Jerkbait... The Siege of Spinner Cay "Did you try?" list

Sup guys, Its DZ back with another "Did you try?" A.K.A. "Play it again" A.K.A. "Easter Egg" A.K.A. "commonly missed" A.K.A. "I have no life" list :p

Once again this will be a community effort, if you find a noteworthy, and significantly gut busting line that's off the beaten path* then be sure to post it below and ill stick it up in the main list below

(* "off the beaten path" meaning "not part of a puzzle solution or required conversation")

In Chapter 2... did you...

(Incomplete list, ill add more over the weekend)
- Continually talk to Morgan on the opening sword fight to her all their banter?
- Look at the cracked mast after the LaFlay fight, but before going to the Jerkbait islands?
- Have Le chuck use/look at all his items in the wrong places? (including the pearl?)
- While Le chuck is on the cliff... repeatedly leave and come back to hear all his mumblings to himself?
- Read all 101 fish jokes?
(Just kidding, there are only about 20)
- Try to fish where it says "no fishing"?
- Try to give the fake sea turtle directly to the pirates confronting Lechuck?
- Try to talk to Le chuck while he is at the cannon?
- Continually insult the pirate captain (and continually get you mast fixed?) to hear all Guybrush's insults?
- Talk to Winslow while the mast is broken... after getting it fixed... and during the 2 pirate battles?
- Talk to Elaine after meeting Lechuck and recovering one of the artifacts
- repeatedly shove the locket into the singing manatee?
- click all the rocks on the deserted islands until Guybrush starts talking to one of them?
- Repeatedly try getting through the weakpoint in the blockade (and try all the excuses?)
- Try to use the hook on someone?
- Use the fish eggs to (almost) catch a red hearing

    - Use the bucket on the hot tub when the Mer-chief is sitting in it?
    - Use the bucket on the hot tub when empty?
    - Use the hot coals on the empty hot tub?
    - Offer the giant pearl to Elaine?
    - Use the fish eggs on the heated barbecue?
    - Try to put the fish eggs in the Manatee's hole?
    - Mouse over all of the items on the Roe Island shelter after you've looked at them?
    - Try to use the pyrite parrot on the pirates fighting with LeChuck?
    - Try to use the hot coals on the pirates fighting with LeChuck?
    - Try to throw random things down the cliff face?
    - Try to use the pyrite parrot on the group arguing at the throne room?

    Here's a few more:
    Did you...

    - Repeatedly examine the papers on the floor of the shack in Roe island?
    - Try to borrow any books from the library other than "101 Fish jokes"?
    - Examine the Royal Throne more than once?
    - Examine the skeleton in Isle of Ewe more than once?

And lastly, I doubt anyone missed this, but here goes:

    - Did you try examining the sketch of the Voodoo Lady a second time after looking at the cans in Roe Island?

    - Repeatedly examine main mast while fighting Morgan?
    - Try to bribe Morgan with your parrot?
  • edited August 2009
after your mast gets broken in the sea battle, head to spoon island, that'll mess up the game -> LeChuck is not at the beach cannon, but a cannonball floats in the air (and Guybrush says LeChuck is busy shooting, doing that a few times, it happens that you will talk to just the door of the pox-infected captain later on [..] I also managed to get a SECOND fake turtle AND still having my mighty-pirate parrot!!! Though the game still works as wanted, but with glitches
  • edited August 2009
    Two more:
    - Try to fish in the Royal Throne after the Merleader was kidnapped? Before? (don't actually know what, if anything, happens if you try it while she/he's there)

    - Try to use the hook on the pox-ridden pirates while LeChuck is fighting them?
  • edited August 2009
-try to bribe Morgan with the locket
-try to give the pirate's fighting LeChuck the REAL turtle artifact
  • edited August 2009
    Did you try:
    - looking at the map while fighting Morgan?
    - looking at the coconut on Britle Island? (the Island at the north) Twice?
    - misleading Lechuck in every possible way?
    - going into your cabin on the ship?
    - making the pirates have an eye contest until you had try all diverting options?
    - looking at everything in DeCava's shack then looked at the name changes?
    - making the pirates dig everywhere on the island?
    - cooking the roe on the barbecue?

More when I think of them.

    I discovered one.
Did you try giving the Mer-chief some fish eggs?

What's the point on deleting "Did you try" list of "Launch Of the Screaming Narwhal"?

You mean this list? It wasn't deleted, it was just made back into a regular thread, so it doesn't stick at the top of the list anymore.

I think you should make an official "Did you try list" (Like strong bad's) or keep it stickied for easy access)

Just link to the previous thread in the first post of this thread. 'Nough.

Or just link to the threads from the games' pages like it was done in Sam & Max.

Still... if they made an "official one", it might reach out to a larger audience of people-who-didn't-catch-it-the-first-time-but-don't-join-forums.

This is the "official" one ;)

Oh, no disrespect to you at all sir. or ma'm. It's hard to tell online

I just wish it were in a more... permanent place, like the "I wounder what happens in TALES OF MONKEY ISLAND" cartoons that are put on the Monkey Island portion of Telltale's website

    Did you try
Telling LeChuck to use the staff-thingie on himself? Best gag of the game if you ask me!
  • edited August 2009
Did anyone else recognize the song guybrush hums at the bait shop?
It's Largo's Theme, from MI2, IIRC. Is this a hint? Will we get to see Largo?
  • edited August 2009
    Did you:
    • Give LeFlay the pyrite parrot?
    • Use the pyrite parrot when the barbecue is not on/not hot enough
    • Touch the dial again when the barbecue is on
    • Insert the sponge-locket to the manatee toy again, after you get the piece of paper?
      -- I'm surprised they didn't pull a rick-roll on that.
    • Distract the two pirates on the shore, then a) put something in the chest, or b) just examine the chest (two different dialogs)
    • While you can hook anything/anyone in this game, you get a unique dialogue if you try to hook
      the guys fighting LeChuck
  • edited August 2009
Ok, this is not exactly something you do, but I don't know any other thread in which this sweet detail could be highlighted:
while Guybrush is on the beach of Spoon Island, where Threnchfoot and Hardtack are arguing, you can clearly see LeChuck's Silhouette on the top of the cliff, comically striving to get the altar open
; worth another look if you hadn't noticed. :)

    Also
    McGillicutty
produces a different line if you use the hook on him during the final confrontation

Here's a few I don't think have been mentioned yet:
Give the unopened oyster to Chief Beluga
Use '101 Fish Jokes' on Hardtack at the blockade
Give random items to Hardtack at the blockade
Talk to Winslow after talking to a Vaycaylian

I tried running TOMI on this my favourite desktop but it crashed it (exactly spec. for Monkey 5) - thank goodness I had laptop to use/didn't have to buy new PC before October 22nd.

It would be neat if someone would make a compilation on youtube of the 10 best 'did you try' funniest moments. Because in my humble opinion not all of them are worth it to replay everything, and i guess everyone would appreciate a selection, right?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. It might just be a little chuckle for those who remember it.
On the other hand, Largo might be unhappy that LeChuck is human and try to get him back to his old ways - or he may be involved in LeChuck's evil plans. However, perhaps they wouldn't give quite such an obvious hint at Largo's return before the episode in which it was going to happen?

Anybody else find the name a bit weird/offensive?
I was a bit irked by the ladyboy/gay jokes that were abundant in this chapter (along with the name "jerk bait")...

I didn't really see that kind of humour in any of the previous games (maybe MI4... which I didn't really like... so can't remember much.)

    Ooh, good ones!

    Did you try:
going directly to Brillig Island after slipping past the blockade (and before going anywhere else, including McGillicutty's ship)?

I don't know where you're getting this ladyboy stuff from. It's getting kind of weird how you're posting about it in more than one topic, and a little suspicious.

I was going to mention this one, this is quite funny, but Guybrush always talks about fooling the pirates even before the fight scene occurs. This dialogue is something that shouldn't have been overlooked especially if the game is mentioning something that isn't always the case.

I did get that floating door thing, but had no idea I triggered it. I thought it was just a glitch.

    Did you ever
try to catch up to Migillicutty's ship with a broken mast? More then once?
