Wheres Wally?

edited September 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Just think back to the last time we saw him at the end of the curse of monkey island..... Did he get rescued by Guybrush and survive the explosion (I hope)
If he survived Lechucks boat explosion by NOT wearing a seatbelt he can survive again (one hopes).
Whats your opinions?

    I think he survived.

I would love to see him again in Tales... but then again... I would love to see Kate, Stan and Largo too.

I'm pretty sure he survived. Don't we see him in the ending waving alongside everyone else at the newlyweds?

You know, the majority of Americans won't get the reference or think it's misplaced. We call him Waldo.

I have a feeling most people won't find this as funny because they named him Waldo in the American version.

Didn't know that - always knew that series as "Gdzie jest Wally" ('Where is Wally?').

Yeah, book publishers in the US have a nasty habit of messing with British things even when they're in perfectly readable english. A few times it's somewhat justifiied, there are some words and phrases that would be completely obtuse to a person that grew up from an American cultural standpoint, but some changes are just stupid.

I generally go for a British edition of whatever British book I'm trying to get, but for a puzzle picture book it's hardly worth it, and I kind of like the name "Waldo" more anyway. It's more whimsical, and it makes Odlaw make far more sense.

Wouldn't Wally be much older now anyway and not really feel like the same character?

Since this is a piece of fiction that isn't really bound to official rules of nature and time, that wouldn't be a problem IMO.

Guybrush aged, but just a little.

Guybrush was 20 in the secret...

walley now runs the ferry from blood island to skull island ..since the previous ferry runner got lost ... AGAIN

Guybrush was 20 in the secret...
...and then he was 19 in Revenge. Odd, that. :p
Anyway, I guess Wally survived and is still the same old Wally. We probably won't see him in Tales, but they wouldn't have just killed him off without a good reason to.

Actually, Guybrush was supposed to be 17 in SoMI, 19 in MI2, ?20? in CoMI, same age in EfMI as in CoMI (due to being set just after his return from their honeymoon), and now in ToMI I believe he's around 27 (it's supposed to be set seven years after the last game and ten years after the start of the series).

Wally is behind the fridge, duuuh!

Oh, wait... THAT Wally! I thought you meant..I mean, Waldo and.. yeah...

I hope he's survived and will make a comeback someday, he's one of my favourite characters!

(for the records, here in the UK we do actually call it "Where's Wally?" so I smiled when I saw the thread title :D)

    @Guybrush's age:
I know it's mentioned in the games that he is 19 in Revenge and 20 in Curse. I don't recall it being mentioned in Secret and haven't yet played Escape. However, I once read somewhere that he is a year older in every game. I also heard that the first 2 games are a month apart from each other, and that the 3rd and 4th are 3 months apart. Guess it depends on when his birthday is and how long it is between the 2nd and 3rd games.

Or, of course, half of that could be wrong. It's just stuff I remember seeing on forums, wikipedia, etc. :D

Wally's age always confused me. He looked like an early teen, probably a few years younger than Guybrush. I'd love to see Wally as a young naive adventurer who's trying to exact his revenge on the Eeeeevil Pirate Threepwood.

I still can't explain why in America, Milky Way is the same as a Mars bar in the UK. And in the UK the Milky Way is the same as some other US bar? Why change the name?

Color me ignorant! I Didn't know in England they called Waldo as Wally.

The one i'll never for get is where the whole scene is waldos and you have to find the original one that's missing a shoe. That took forever!

Hmm! But I've only played the english version of MI (simply because there's no swedish version.. plus that I think that the game are its best in the original language (bleeh, I *hate* dubbed movies for instance..)), and Wally has always been called Wally :)

I don’t have much time to Wright this! ...They are coming for me.... but I have inside info that will blow your mind!... they are planning to make another 5 monkey island games and within each one is a single small clue as to where the last game is taking you.. I work as a janitor at the telltale offices and about an hour ago I stumbled upon the script for the last game and it turns out that Le Chuck is in fact on Wally’s payroll! in MI2 he wasn’t looking for big whoop, no he had already found it years ago consuming so much demonic power that only beings from the afterlife could see his true demonic form
    .

So with Wally being the most powerful force on earth what was he to do? Killing many innocent souls sounded fun but would not quench his evil almost perverted hunger for power. He wanted to watch soul's suffer on a personal level. So with his godly voodoo powers he created guybrush out of the very fabric of the universe, gave him a memory of a tragic past and set him off into the world. he then hired a fairly fearsome pirate at the time Le Chuck to do his bidding .he gave Le Chuck limited powers and told him of his plan. Years went by and le chuck made a name for himself it is about this time guybrush came to Melee Island and we all know the story there. Guybrush defeats le chuck and saves the day. But this was still part of Wally’s plan.

Wally still showing face as a map maker meets guybrush and leads him down the path Wally has planned for him. Years and years ago but finally it comes to the last game and Wally reveals himself to guybrush at the very gates of hell. Wally tells guybrush everything and kills Elaine right in front of him. he also kills his son from the 6th game (lando) and his son from the 7th game(barney) and his daughter from the 8th game (Morgan) and his 'like a father' trainer Mickey. Destroying his entire life guybrush breaks down, an hour cut scene of dialogue showing guybrush going through the stages of death takes place until it comes to the final puzzle...use gun on self. You watch as Wally leans in and tell guybrush finally what the true secret of Monkey Island is......I don’t want to spoil it or anything ...so you will have to wait and see...THEY ARE HERE! REMEBER THESE WORDS MY FRIENDS FOR THEY ARE A WARNING OF THINGS TO COME. I will now take my own life god save us all..

Yarg, that was a spam post.

I'd like to see Wally back, I loved him in MI3. NOt Mi2, he was just a sprite, he didn't really get a cool personality til his brief appearance in MI3. I liked his voice actor.

He will return! But probably not in TOMI.
