Will movie DVDs end up like music CDs?
So when I was younger I use to own tons of dvds now because of streaming and redbox in general my movie collection is down to two, also been asking friends and co workers they haven’t bought a new movie in years too.
Also I’m talking about movie dvds not tv seasons, I still buy those since with those you get a lot more to watch compared to a movie.
With the recent news of music cds starting to fade I just cant stop thinking about it. Thoughts?
Edit: the only movies I own are spirited away and the South Park movie, Idk why I’m adding this, but I feel like I have too.

I think it's likely to happen, we have the technology to just stream films and shows online because we've advanced in technology, there's more available to watch online, it doesn't take up space and streaming platforms are only growing faster with more options. So I think we'll slowly see discs fade away alongside satellite tv, people will probably use their tv screens for streaming in the future.
People still buy music CD's you know.
Yeah but it's just a collector's thing now, kind of like vinyl. It can be argued that the sound quality is marginally better but that's not really why anyone buys them. It's about getting to hold on to a physical thing, plus the cool artwork.
DVD's will end up not being used anymore and more people will buy only Blu-Ray movies. The digital era is starting to come slowly but it will end up being that everything will be digital at some point in time. Like all our movies, games, and music will be downloadable only and saved to your account which will suck because what happens when the servers that hold our digital items go offline forever?
I don't think so. Not everyone has internet or a good, fast internet. I still prefer DVDs since there's no buffering issues.
I only tend to buy or ask for DVD's I know I will watch multiple times, like the Marvel films or Star Wars, but I also recognize that streaming isn't something one can constantly rely on to be usable. But given that Netflix makes it very easy to watch most of their content in all kinds of places, it's becoming less of an issue.
I also notice with games I am buying them digitally a lot more now than I used to, so this is something happening in multiple media outlets.
I only buy DVDs when there was a movie that came out that I hadn't seen at the time, like any of the marvel films.
I agree which is why sometimes I prefer to purchase the physical edition of a game because sometimes buying it from the PSN or XBOX store takes a really long time to install.
I'm sure there are people out there who still purchase Music CDs, Blockbuster Video stores should never have gone out because even if you rely on stuff like Netflix they take off movies, Star Wars which is my favorite movie franchise of all time only has one movie on there at this time but I'm guessing that's because in 2019 Disney is going to open up their own streaming service so they need all of their properties off Netflix and any other streaming services that involve Star Wars. Marvel is in the same situation as Star Wars because both franchises are owned by Disney and the only way to watch these movie franchises at this time is to buy them on DVD unless you want to wait a whole year for Disney's streaming service.
