DeCava's journal

Maybe I'm just really behind but I just found De Cava's journal and after looking through it, I am fascinated with his story! I mean, what was with the "she will thank me for this!" next to the picture of la Esponja Grande? Could he possibly be trying to cure her of some voodoo pox we weren't aware of? Wouldn't that be a twist!

Also, the contraption that he claimed "will never work". What is it? All of the stuff in his journal leaves me with so many questions! I can't wait for the next chapter of TMI! Each one gives us a little more background on him. I'm so excited!

Not enough air seems to hint that it is a submarine.

    Thats a really weak submarine.

Well but seeing the concept art it seems to have worked. At least we will find De Cava in Episode 3.

I'm really excited. I think he's gonna be an awesome character. Its also nice to know that the voodoo lady had a social life at one point. Every game she's just sitting around her little huts doin voodoo stuff.

The Monkey page was kind of out of nowhere. I wonder if they connect to everything or if they're just a random part of the game.

I think he thought about making a submarine to reach the Lair, but then realised it won't work. So he found the Leviathan and entered the "mouth" hoping it would lead him to the Lair.

And I think he made the summoning artifacts out of fools gold.

Where do you see this journal?

    Did I miss something?

    Am I a downright fool!?!

I guess the journal is trying to explain how De Cava found his way to the lair. Cuz he obviously didn't get the summoning artifacts nor did he know the summoning words. So it must be trying to explain all the missing info.

I just really wanna know what the "she will thank me for this" was all about!

It's one of the prizes from the treasure hunt.

Ah, my treasure hunt stuffed up. I used the Wii codes after map 1, and I added the others, but I don't have any maps in my inventory.

Any chance someone could upload the journal as a pdf?

    I found the things.

It just won't show up in game. Due to a glitch.

It says I have it on the internet Treasure Hunt Game, but it doesn't show up in Ep1.

So can someone upload a pdf?

It could have been a reference to Escape from Monkey Island, because on that page he wrote, 'Where have all the monkeys gone?' In Escape from Monkey Island,
all of the monkeys in the Caribbean disappear to Monkey Island.

    Maybe he thinks she's "sponge-worthy"...

Yeah, but that would be kind of random and irrelevant, seeing as it wouldn't connect to the story at all while all the other pages do. Some of the drawings of the monkeys though resemble the ones in the cover art, so they are probably the monkeys LeChuck abducted. It would be cool if they are all related to the whole pox thing somehow. That would explain why LeChuck is using them so much. I don't buy the whole return them to the wild excuse he's giving. They are of some use to him somehow.

So according to this journal he built a submarine, the sponge is HUGE, and he used fool's gold to recreate the three artifacts needed to find the manatee. I assume we'll find De Cava in the manatee's stomach along with a gigantic sponge.
  • edited September 2009
    I believe so.

But why did he bother to replicate them?

I doubt he had the artifacts, but I bet that with constant trips to the library he knew what they looked liked. He probably just created replicas since he couldn't get his hands on the originals.

But the mermaid leader was so keen to let Guybrush have them....

But that was after the Pox. Guybrush wants to cure it, but we really don't know why De Cava was after the Sponge.

Probably had something to do with the voodoo lady's powers. Maby she did something terrible using voodoo and he wants to make her voodoo free so that she isn't overcome by her power. That's why she probably got pissed at him.

I got the impression from the Voodoo Lady's conversation in the first chapter that De Cava was obsessed with finding the sponge, and that's why their relationship suffered, because he was off finding it and never came back.

And in the journal it seems the reason he wanted to find it was for the Voodoo Lady, probably as a gift to show his devotion. But he obviously got swallowed by the manatee and never found a way out.

That could be possible, but why would he want to find the sponge to begin with? Just for the sake of finding it? It may be considered a treasure, but treasure is usually lusted for using it such as using gold to buy things. I don't think it would make much sense for him to find it just as a gift for the voodoo lady.

For one thing, having it around would be a direct danger to her powers and she clearly showed that she hated his devotion to it. So I don't Decava wanted to find it as a gift or just to find it, but to use it to "cure" the voodoo lady of her powers. He believes it's best for her, hence the line saying she'll thank me for this.

never thought of this. why is he looking for the sponge? like you guys said the 'she will thank me for this' line fishy

I'm thinkin there are some good theories on this forum. Like "So I don't Decava wanted to find it as a gift or just to find it, but to use it to "cure" the voodoo lady of her powers. He believes it's best for her, hence the line saying she'll thank me for this." That makes a lot of sense.

I was thinking because it's a powerful voodoo object and the Voodoo Lady is the authority on those kind of things. I'm sure if De Cava gave her one of those, she'd thank him for it and then stick it safely away in her wardrobe with her unmentionables.

I don't think there's anything particularly fishy about that line.

This is me but, I think he was going to find the sponge bring it back to her, to prove his love for her, so he will never leave her again for anything.

or She is in fact evil and he wants to suck the voodoo out of her so they can have a normal life together, but I'm going with the first choice.
