    Yeah, no.

How smug Kanye West is, his tracks are still one of the most revered of the past few years. His attitude actually has nothing to do with how good or bad he is.

If you lack taste and insight, I guess his shallow hiphop pleases. I've listened to far too much to celebrate that. He introduced some pretty cool beats, but his rapping is horrible throughout (something I heard he admitted himself back in the days) and it is extremely predictable.

I concur. Mr. West's ability as a rapper is sub par. He made it "big" by presenting a rhyme about "Cool Whip" to Damon Dash of Roc dysnasty fame. He said even at that time Damon Dash kind of laughed at him.... before this he was just a DJ and Producer.

Kanye's skillset is being a great producer, his rhymes are garbage. People these days gravitate to better production regardless of how talented the actual artist is when it comes to delivering lyrics.

It was widely known that he was a subpar emcee. Now since he sold a ass load of records because Rocafella had a huge budget to market him he's got Lil Wayne Syndrome. He self proclaims himself as the best rapper alive. When he beat 50 Cent in that public bet over who would get more record sales that pretty much pushed his ego over board.

His music is terrible, his beats are nice.... This is the only truth. Anybody who disagrees will not have a huge understanding of what Hip Hop is. Only the "Mainstream" casual listener thinks Mr. West has the right to his ego.

We all know that he couldn't hold his own vs Nas or Jay Z.... hell even Eyedea and Abilities or Atmosphere make more meaningful music than this guy. Better yet, they use more complicated rhyme styles, as in complex with double and triple rhyme patterns. Also, they have more respect for other people in general. What Mr. West did to Taylor Swift is just unacceptable. He has the right to his own opinion, but to rip the mic out of the hand of a 19 year old country music singer (important to note, because they don't just win VMA awards all the time since the genre conflicts) and embarrass her like that her first time in front of all those celebrities is just cruel and unusual.

If he thought Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time, he could of made that announcement on a different day in an interview and it would of been fine. But to be arrogant enough to think that the rest of world cares about his opinion bad enough for him to pull the mic out of her hand to give his input..... this totally removes all respect as a person as he shows he has no respect for any others.

He will argue "I said I mean no disrespect." Like some how this means your not being disrespectful, that's like saying No Offense but you are a tool. Just because you said "No offense" doesn't mean what you say following isn't to be taken offensive. The two points contradict each other entirely.

Oh and wow, it really does sound like Monkey Island too..... I doubt it was completely coincidental. These producers look for the most bizarre and obscure tracks to sample.... I wouldn't be surprised if he stumbled acrossed a youtube video of monkey island somewhere of if he knew someone who had the soundtrack even.

Oh and by the way, that song is horrible. He's off beat and out of the pocket like 60% of that song, he sounds like he's running out of breathe and just repeats words because he can't find words that fit with what he's trying to say. No talent required in that. It's like Juelz Santana. Garb-OH!

If I had the budget Mr. West had, I'd be bigger than him... and so would many other people who have a passion for writing rhymes. He just doesn't contain anything "Special" except his unique taste for selecting different sounding beats.

What he did was give Taylor Swift the kind of PR you simply CAN'T pay for. People who don't care about the VMAs will generally have to know about the incident, people who have no idea who Taylor Swift is will feel bad for her. I wouldn't be surprised if her sales go through the roof after this instance.

Now, that doesn't make the guy not an arrogant dirtbag, but I'm guessing she's going to get some positive fallout from this one.

Actually, saying that "those who think Kanye West's music is at least good do not have an understanding of hiphop" pretty much is hanging towards elitism. Sure, he's no lyrical genius, pretty much everybody knows that. That however doesn't mean other hiphop is "better". "Better" is subjective. Some like the urban hiphop, some don't.

My brother mostly likes the more specific type of R&B, not the kind that gets constant hits on the radio. Does that mean his R&B is better? No. It only means his taste differs from others. And even though he listens to artists I only hear about a few months later doesn't mean he doesn't like artists and groups like Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, Colbie Calait, John Mayer and the likes.

THAT is what defines a audiophile. It's like food, you only eat things that are to your taste, but you don't necessarily say the rest is garbage.

Oh, and if Chris Martin of Coldplay fame can do a duet with Kanye West, you know you shouldn't be talking too much dirt. Some of his songs are awesome, with an x, so it writes AWEXOME. It does help a bit that Chris Martin is open to all styles of music.

Gary, have you not realized that your earlier post about how great you thought his music was wrote you off back then as a fan boy? With certain kinds of music it's as bad as the religiousness that occurs between Macs and PCs. With that being said, I think this thread needs to be locked as it's no longer serving it's original intent.

Yes, it is a kind of elitism, but it's nothing out of bounds. Wouldn't you trust a connaisseur over an average joe when it came to wines? I've worked my way through the classics, I know the international scene, in fact I know every style of hiphop there is.

I understand how you write hiphop, I "get" rhyming, rhymestructure and how syllables works together. I can tell who flows better to a spec beat.

With this in mind, I regard myself as higher educated when it comes to hiphop. So forgive me if I do not think that someone who only listens to MTV mainstream music, whether it be Madonna or Marily Manson, qualify as judge of taste when it comes to hiphop.
My brother mostly likes the more specific type of R&B, not the kind that gets constant hits on the radio. Does that mean his R&B is better? No. It only means his taste differs from others.
Unless it means he has needs to differentiate from the general public, which is very possible since he seems to be young, it means his taste is refined- but only if he has listened to a lot of mainstream as well of course. Mainstream per definition is easy to listen to. It's supposed to apply to a broader audience hence edges can't be sharp.

It's like with rhethorics: when you speak to a smaller audience you can be familiar and you can use stronger words than if you were to speak on national TV. Where do you think the quality lies? Obv the speech more personally directed towards the smaller audience. And yeah, sometimes there will be exceptions to the rule, like Obama's speeches but that's an excepetion.
And even though he listens to artists I only hear about a few months later doesn't mean he doesn't like artists and groups like Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, Colbie Calait, John Mayer and the likes.
It's because those are for the beginner's in every genre. Easy-listen-to music. Some people like more complex music.
THAT is what defines a audiophile. It's like food, you only eat things that are to your taste, but you don't necessarily say the rest is garbage.
I listen to everything from gregorian chanting, world music, psytrance , downtempo, classical etc etc but when it comes to hiphop I'm in depth specialized. When it comes to these other styles I'm more humble.
Oh, and if Chris Martin of Coldplay fame can do a duet with Kanye West, you know you shouldn't be talking too much dirt. Some of his songs are awesome, with an x, so it writes AWEXOME. It does help a bit that Chris Martin is open to all styles of music.

Because Coldplay are the undeniable gods of heaven? Grow up. Don't you know how the industry works?

Edit: Oh and btw. This is a quote from Chris Martin: "I definitely believe in God. How can you look at anything and not be overwhelmed by the miraculousness of it?".

Yeah, kinda seals the deal doesn't it?
