Strange final puzzle

You know, I can't help but think that if Guybrush had just given Corenada the sponge, he would have gone and given it to the Voodoo Lady, who probably could have taken care of the cleanup. Plus, it wouldn't be sitting around being held hostage by Morgan.

Although either way, the sponge gets back to Flotsam, which is primarily where it needs to go to stop the Pox.

Yes but this is Guybrush thinking about Elaine rather than following Voodoo Lady's instructions.

Can't trust that lunatic to deliver the sponge back. After all, he sat in a manatee for years w/o knowing his crew even was alive.

I'm pretty sure he would have. He had every intention of it being HIM to bring the sponge back to the voodoo lady.

Well, his intentions are strong, but he's pretty bad at solving puzzles and doing things the fast way. He is the type that would sail against the winds of Flotsam for a year, without never thinking of a faster plan.
