i do indeed enjoy the office, but diwali was offered up by joe and i just ran with the rest of the these without trying to make any references (although i do like to hand out demerits around the office from time to time)

Wait, that's the wrong office-related visual media. Nevermind.

    Office Space > The Office

    By an infinite amount.

British The Office > US The Office

I thought Bring Your Daughter To Work Day was a Portal reference. So there ya go.

Not necessarily, there was a British version of Married With Children that somehow was worse than the original, though this was an anomaly and the exception to the rule and we don't speak of it round these parts

    Oh by the way.
    DIWALI is pronounced DIVALI.
That got to me a bit. Dunno why though ¬_¬

I personally like both versions of the Office...

Uh. Bring Your Daughter To Work Day has been around much longer than The Office or Portal.

That doesn't mean it isn't allowed to be a reference to either.

But that's kind of like saying a character on The Office making an ugly face and saying "ARRRR!" is a reference to Monkey Island because they do it in that game. :S

I don't think any one of those things on its own would have been seen as an Office reference, but when there are three or more separate jokes reminiscent of Office episodes, it makes sense that the OP would start thinking in that direction.

I just thought that you put Diwali in there because it happens this month! I thought that was the beauty of episodic releases... you can put current events in there.

Not quite. People are speculating that something might be a reference. In the same way, your hypothetical example of a character in The Office 'The Office making an ugly face and saying "ARRRR!"' indeed -might- be a Monkey Island reference. Then again, it might not. But just because pulling a face and going ARRRR! was invented long before Monkey Island, that doesn't mean that whoever wrote it in wasn't making a reference.

For example, if I put the words 'bring your daughter to work day' into a thing I made... say, a song or something, I'd definitely be doing it as a Portal reference because I associate that phrase with Portal more than anything else. Maybe the person who put it into MI did it as a Portal reference. Maybe they did it as an Office reference. Maybe they did it as neither. We don't know, but it's fun to speculate.
