Guybrush is evolving! *Chapter 3 spoilers*

edited September 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Guybrush learnt unlimited air supply!

So did anyone try and let the Brush die underwater like in Secret? I left him for a good 15-20 minutes and he was still living, there wasn't even a reference to the whole 10 mins thing underwater. Couldn't they have killed him? Or maybe had him say he couldn't hold his breath any longer and automatically climb up the anchor?

Actually I had guybrush rush back outside after I spent a godawful amount of time on the manatee conversation puzzle.

If I left him too long underwater he had to surface for air.

Really? How did I miss that? I left him for way longer than 10 minutes.

    Same here.

...and here. He said something like "Oops, time for me to surface." I have no idea how long I left him underwater - I needed ages for the manatee puzzle as well. :D

I think it's an actual 10 minute timer lol. Ie he literally does hold his breath for 10 minutes.

yep he goes "i know i can hold my breath for ten minutes but... TIME TO GO BACK UP" and climbs the anchor

Holding his breath for ten minutes is even more impressive considering he can speak as well.

Does beg a question though. Did anyone ever try and see how long Sam and Max could hold their breath for in Episode 2-2?

He was able to speak during the puzzle in SMI, wasn't he? I'm pretty sure he said "I can't reach that" or something along those lines whenever you clicked one of the things underwater.

Yep, and if you already had the sword before being chucked in the water he would also stop by a sword stuck in the sea bed and say that he needs it or somesuch. I also seem to recall that if you leave him in there long enough he will say something about how time is running out I think (only did it once, so not sure, and my mind is going with age :D ).

Can I suggest you play again? :)

I personally replay the first game roughly once a year :D

Now we know Guybrush also has freakish toe strength, I wonder if that will come up in a game.

Probably not, I think it was just a joke. I guess it could be interesting though...

He does something a lot more interesting than that if he stays down more than 10 minutes.

Yeah he climbed back up after the manatee puzzle for me too (that one took me aaages). Didn't notice exactly how much time, but it would make sense that the game would let you finish the conversation you were having first...

I think the "freakish toe strength" referred to how he walks underwater. He walk on his toes, and I think we all do if we try (it's been so long since I went to the beach). Try walking in a swimming pool, you'll see.

i'm glad they brought in an underwater puzzle. it's always one of guybrush's major brag points that he can hold his breath a long time, so it's cool to have an actual demonstration that it is actually true. like the fact that his brag is 100% true makes him awesome.

and i think the last time we were underwater was in MI2, and that was just for about a minute.

In CMI if you clicked on the ocean by the Flying Welshman enough times, there's an Easter Egg set underwater. And in Escape, the booty showcase is reached by going underwater (and solving the glowfish puzzle).

I with I could hold my breath for ten minutes; I can barely even hold it for one!
