Will Telltale Make a New Monkey Island Series after this one?

Have they hinted at this possibility at all? Seems like with all the sucess tales has had so far - they would be starting to think about future monkey island games.

I'm sure they take it one step at a time. They can't really decide anything without LucasArts. LucasArts can internalize it, outsource it to another company, or just sit on the franchise for no reason.

Besides, I don't want another season of this yet. I want more Sam and Max, dammit!

I wouldn't doubt if there were talks already.... its not like they would tell all of us unless its a done deal.

I mean, I bet the employees have talked amongst themselves unofficially about the possibility, and many are probably brewing up ideas in their heads, but Lucas Arts is probably waiting to see how Tales does before renewing TTG's license or deciding to change the business model (ie: Contracting TTG for the games rather than licensing the IP to them)

I hope they do do another Season.
It was AWESOME to have Monkey Island back!

Really? I thought you would have wanted more Old Man Rub. ...... :D

ANYway, I would love to see another season after this one. I agree that it's been awesome having Monkey Island back after so long. It would be awesome if the popularity of Tales spawned more games, or maybe even made the powers-that-be reconsider the Monkey Island movie. ...hey, I can dream, right? :)

atm I don't even think the people of Telltale know. It probably depends on this season's success.

    Oh PLEASE.
PLEASE let the-powers-that-be reconsider a Monkey Island Movie..
I'd prefer a CGI one though.
No REAL people in MY Monkey Island.

I agree that there should be no "real" people in it, but I'd prefer animation over CGI. Especially Curse of Monkey Island-style animation.

    Drawn animation?
Fair nuff, it'd be nice either way.
    :p

As far as I'm concerned, a Monkey Island movie should look like a twisted sort of Errol Flynn pirate movie. Ideally, with Jim Henson-style puppetry. Think more Star Wars and Dark Crystal, less Muppets.

Yes, of course. There is no doubt about it.

I am a firm believer that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp would make a great Monkey Island movie, a la The Corpse Bride

    I'd agree.
Perhaps if they did the animation in a similar style.
No real people in Monkey Island.
    It's just not possible.

If I've learned anything from being a Monkey Island fan it's that I should not expect a sequel to be made until it's actually in my hot grubby hands (or on my hot grubby hard drive as the case may be), so I'm not counting on a sequel being made.

That said, it seems like ToMI has been pretty popular, and I have to think that the Telltale team would make another Tales if given the opportunity--they might have even hinted about this in the Private Pirates forum.

I guess the best way to sum up how I feel is that I'm more optimistic that there will be a sixth game now than I was about there being a fifth game about 9 months ago.

Don't burn it out. Monkey Islands shouldn't come out once a year. I'd love to see another, but NOT right after this like Sam & Max Season 2.

What's the likelihood of LucasArts seeing how successful this has been and wanting far too much money for a license to produce a second series.
  • edited October 2009
Well this season started pretty good and has gotten better ever since. If Telltale are able to keep this trend going than I would be more than delighted to see more seasons (!!!) of ToMI. Would be cheaper to make too as main charakters are already done 3d model wise.

OK I dont know how much Lucas Arts charges for the MI license, but I would presume they get more, the more copies are sold. Would make sense.

Regarding a Monkey Island Film, well most films made from computer games stink. (also true vice verca) This one would be hardly different. It could never meet the expectations of us geeks. It can't because it would have to be written in a way that makes it suitable for people that hardly know the series too. Better watch Pirates of the Carribean. It has quite a lot MI references. E.g. Johnny depp paddling away in a Coffin.

I think Sam & Max season 2 was a ton better than season 1.... I think they can do it again with Tales.

True dat! Honestly I think it'd be silly for them not to keep going with it. Everyone wins. Telltale, LucasArts, the consumer; all winners in this situation.

It must be their most popular franchise, it would be insane if there was no season 2. Or rather, maybe it would be George Lucas. Totally fkn George Lucas.

It's not just S & M, the games in general seem to be getting better over time.

    im done with this site!!!!!!!!!

i was only here for MI

From what I've heard ToMI is by far Telltale's most popular series, so it seems pretty likely. You never can tell what will happen though.
  • edited October 2009
I dunno, I haven't heard of any other companies wanting to do Monkey Island. So far I don't know why Lucasarts wouldn't want Telltale to do Season 2 (or Monkey Island 6) if they're getting a cut. As long as Lucasarts doesn't make them rush out an incomplete game like they did for obsidian with Knights of the Old Republic 2, I'd be all for another series.

I want them to do it as long as they don't call it TMI Season 2. That would break with the franchise. They would have to come up with a new name. I support Return to Monkey Island, The King of Monkey Island, or something otherwise awesome

The Second Season of Monkey Island?

    Just Kidding

TMI2: That's the second biggest TMI season I've ever seen

    or
    MTMI: More Tales of MI
    and
EMTMI: Even More Tales of MI (For season 3)

Just to confirm, you would rather there was no second season at all than one called TMI Season 2?!?!

    Are you nuts?

By your reckoning, MI2 broke with the franchise too?

Assuming that once this season is finished it will be subtitled like S&M (Tales of Monkey Island: The Pox of LeChuck?) Then I would be absolutely fine with another title similar.

A second season sounds like a huge probability, aside from the huge praises of the fans and it being one of their best sellers, they did name Monkey Island "TaleS of Monkey Island" so hopefully another tale should be brewing :D

I hope they do do another Season.
It was AWESOME to have Monkey Island back!

Agreed, the greatest moment of 2009 was checking worldofmi.com and finding out hat there would be an entirely new MONKEY ISLAND GAME!

No no no, obviously I want another season regardless, I just REALLY REALLY don't want it to be called TMI 2, because TMI (the title of the game as a whole) is MI5 (the fifth in a series of games). TMI2 being MI6 would be confusing and suggest that TMI is not part of the original MI franchise.

No, it's not a franchise until there is more than one anyway :P
