Monkey Island Families

edited October 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Does anyone else here have a Monkey Island loving family or play the game along with other family members?

I was 3 when I first "played" SMI the year it came out (aka my Dad played and I just really liked to watch) and now we both play all the games. I'll often get a call at the most random times of the day "What do I do with this big wheel of cheese?" etc etc.

My mom doesn't play, but she knows the basic ideas. She does the "Bob" dance from the deck of LeChuck's ship in SMI where he flips his head off.

What about you guys? Share you stories!

My kids and I play together... I usually have a play through myself... then they like to play and I give them little hints when they get stuck.

I sometimes play it when a young family member is over. We live in a large apartment building, family only, so there's usually little 'uns over and I sometimes play the games with them on my lap.

My dad does the LeChuck exploding bit.

So she uses a football or something, or is it just the tap dance part?

my brother used to make fun of it but played TMI and now loves it

My sister has played Secret, LeChuck's Revenge, and the first two-thirds or so of Curse. She's also played Chapter 1 and halfway through Chapter 2 of Tales. I basically justified spending the money on Tales by saying it was a gift for my sister. :P

Both my stepsisters tried 1-3 but didn't have enough enthusiasm to complete them. My dad used to help me beat the Swordmaster when I was little.

I saw a family friend play CMI (which I loved because of the cartoon), but my cousin was the one who got me officially hooked into MI with EMI, and a few years later I got my sister completely hooked to CMI and ToMI and we now insult swordfight each other whenever we get into minor arguments. It's a load of fun :D

My dad introduced me and my brother to the MI series. My mom hates the whole series because apparently while she was taking care of me, my dad was locked in his room on the first Monkey Island

We had a cousin who had the LA adventure games, although my brother was more welcome to watch him play them than I was. (He'd give me a suffering look whenever I'd ask a question. My brother could ask away though.) Then a few years ago my brother got a hold of the original Monkey Island games and we played through some of Secret and all of Curse together. When Tales was announced my mom felt she was ready to play Monkey Island since she was used to the other Telltale games. My dad doesn't know how to use a computer.

I had recently met my (now) wife around the time the 4th one came out. At that time, I lent her Monkey 3 and she was instantly hooked. She didn't really like the looks of 1 & 2 after seeing 3, and like many others, she wasn't too crazy about the look of 4.

But regardless, I've been a fan since the first one and my wife is a fan now as well. We also were big fans of MST3K before we met, so it isn't unusual for Monkey Island or MST3K references to come up in our conversations at least once or twice a week (if not per day). :) I have no doubt that once our daughters are both big enough to understand the game a bit more that our whole family will be making MI references for years to come.

We recently got Wii Sports Resort and it didn't take long for us to start hurling MI insults at each other while sword fighting. :)

My wife isn't a gamer... She knows Monkey Island because of the kids and I but she doesn't play it herself..... Think that is terms for divorce? Just kidding.

My sister accidentally finished Escape from Monkey Island for me, while I was explaining Monkey Kombat to her.

Other than that, none of my other family members are into them. I bought Curse for my cousin, but I doubt he ever played it.

Me and my sister play the games. We discovered them together in a boring summer, back in 6th grade or so. We played 1-3 in one go and I re-discovered MI when vol. 4 was released.
She started to get into it again ONLY because of the remake of SoMI and now plays the telltale chapters, too.

    It's awesome!!!

When I was 9, I bought a CD Game 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'.
And there was a free gift chance to get one game free.
Monkey Island 4, FIFA and etc were on the list.
My younger brother wanted to get FIFA and I wanted to get Monkey Island.
We fought[not fistfight!] and I won!
I got Monkey Island 4 and since then, I'm walking the load of adventure game series... Although my brother doesn't play these, he watches my play interestingly :D And when I got stuck, he sometimes gives advices to me. Nice :D

I do know a few people who play adventure games (outside of the Internet I mean) but sadly my family never got into them.

However, I have a clear memory of playing MI2 about 15 years ago. I had just gotten to the part where Guybrush falls from the stump of the big tree and the mom and dad scene was kicking in. At this moment, my sister was walking past and she stopped and watched the whole skeleton dance sequence (trust me, it was a rarity to get any of my family to watch a game for more then 2 seconds, much less play one) and she laughed during the dance a fair bit too.

Anyway, a couple of days later I was playing some more MI2 and my sister said "Oh, it's that game! Play the skeleton song again!". Sadly, I had no saved game so was unable to oblige but I remember thinking 'Monkey Island 2 is a great game if it can attract even a fraction of attention from a family member'!

I wonder what would happen if I were to boot that sequence up in front of my sister these days? Would she say "Oh, it's that skeleton song"?!

My sister and I both played it from SME back in the early 90s - Dad bought it one rainy weekend to keep us quiet and we've both been hooked ever since! When 4 came out on PS2 I got my then boyfriend (now husband) into it and he's pretty hooked too.

My sister and I always try and race to the end of a full game but that's a bit too fast when they're only coming out once a month so we have to pull back a bit!!

My sister is a fan and my dad's played through CMI and EMI but haven't been playing anything since then I think (earlier at one point he was kind of obsessed with Resident Evil)

I was about 6 or 7 and played it with my dad and younger sister for years (we still do to this day as well, haha). I actually played Monkey Island 2 first right after it came out - almost 20 years ago, yikes!

Actually I saw the box for Monkey Island 2 and wanted to buy it JUST because of the cover, haha. Little did I know that it would turn out to be my favorite game of all time. I actually still vividly remember buying it with my dad.

i was 12 at smi , my brother and I played together all the games. Meanwhile, we liked to talk about it in breakfast, lunch dinner, that's why my mom still remembers those days and knows who Guybrush is , what Monkey Island is etc. heh, funny stuff.

I was about 5 or 6 when I played SoMI with my dad. My mom would help us out, or at least try to, and it is probably the single fondest memory I have of that age. When my dad finally reached LeChuck's ship, he wouldn't let me watch any more because he thought it'd scare me...eventually I snuck in to see it.

We lost the CD for a number of years, and finally finished the game almost 6 years after we started. Good times.
