Strange Obsession

edited October 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Why is every seemed to be really obsessed with the idea of Guybrush breaking up with Elaine for Morgan?

Honestly I think that would be a horrible plot twist. It would definitely ruin the story for me if it actually happened. Besides the fact that Guybrush doesn't even seem to be the type of person to do something like that. He spent the first 3 games trying to get Elaine, he finally gets her and now people want to end it. I just don't get it.

I really hope they don't break up, sure Morgan has her moments but most of the time shes just your average kill em all pirate.

Even before Morgan came along, I never really liked the idea of Guybrush with Elaine. Elaine's too pushy, and if Guybrush were a real person, I'd hate to see him treated the way she treats him sometimes. She was fine in the first game, but, I don't know, by the third game, I just didn't like her.

I don't think Guybrush could/should break up with Elaine, you're right that he's not the type of character to do that.

But I could see her breaking up with him or them ending up separated somehow, which I'd be fine with... This poll here has a lot of discussion on this issue...

Maybe you're right that Elaine will break up with him. There have been some hints. After all,
she gave him her ring back.

Morgan is hotter and totally into him. Elane's heart might be in the right place but she treats him like garbage and don't give him no respect. Right now she actually
trusts LeChuck more than her own husband. LeChuck for crying out loud!

I'm not totally convinced they are going to break up, Guybrush after all has so far shown no attraction towards Morgan, but whatever happens it's going to be interesting.

Or else they think Morgan's hotter than Elaine. Or, as others have said, they don't like the way Elaine treats him.

Personally, I don't think Guybrush getting with Morgan would work as a plot element. He's been with Elaine for ten years and he still seems to really like her, after all

I agree with the OP Guybrush and Elaine seem like a parody of real life marryed couples I dont wana see them break apart

I don't like anything about Elaine. She treats Guybrush like a lesser person, doesn't look as good as Morgan, and her voice is particularly unpleasant to me. She's got a really common accent that doesn't suit the status of the character.

Now I thought that he got together with Elaine in SMI, They'd split up by MI2:LCR and didn't get back together again until CMI.

I can't see anything being wrong with her voice, I think it fits the character well, You'd prefer maybe someone who speaks a bit more like Keira Knightley?

I like them as a couple, and there's nothing I'd like to see more than them on and off for the next 10 years.

I don't get it, either. Just because a new female character turns up, people want our hero to break up with the love of his life to get her?

I bet it's because most of the male fans think she's sexy - but she cut off Guybrush's hand, for crying out loud! Would you want to be together with a woman who cut off your hand?!

The whole Morgan and LeChuck issues sure add to the suspense of the story, but I really hope Telltale will do the right thing in the end, and don't break up Guybrush and Elaine.

You know, I couldn't place my finger on it before you said it, but that's exactly what I like about them as a married couple. They actually were a parody from the very beginning in SMI, which is just awesome and hilarious! :D

I personally like the fact that Elaine is pushy and bossy, it usually helps Guybrush get the confidence to do things. And though EMI was awful I do remember Guybrush mentioning how much he liked the honeymoon so she can't always be that mean. Besides as mean as she may be she doesn't go around killing everyone just to get her way.

Above all of that, I wouldn't want Monkey Island to become a soap opera. Breaks up with A, gets together with B, breaks up with B later to be back together with A. Meh.

Guybrush could evolve and try travelling a bit, visit some other places. You don't always have to stay at home.

I like Elaine and Guybrush together. Admittedly Elaine can come off as a little bossy but I think that is only so she can keep Guybrush focused. I can imagine being with Guybrush must be like looking after a child sometimes.

I think they work well together, but this series hasn't really shown it very much so far.

I don't know why Elaine felt the need to give Guybrush her ring. I imagine the motivation might become apparent later. She says "Trust me." I also don't know why she doesn't tell Guybrush off (or at least least commented) when he stole Le Chucks role in her rescue plan. That struck me as really odd. I wonder if there will be an explanation for that.

I don't get what is so great about Morgan either. Not a bad character, but I doubt she would have the patience to handle Guybrush.

I'm just surprised how easy people think about divorce on these forums.. Sure it's a game, but it worries me that as soon as there is a conflict between 2 characters the best option is to just divorce instead of work it out... Also I can't believe how much of a soap opera people want this game to be...

Oh yeah, Elaine treats Guybrush so badly. He deserves a woman that cuts off his hand, mocks his approach to everything, finds his every action not conveyed to her second-hand to be an annoyance, and that is not afraid to knock him out, steal his ship, and deliver him to a psychotic mad scientist that she assumes will slice him up on the spot.

    ...wait, what?

Or it IS looking after a child, depending on how you look at it. :p

Yes, but all us guys like Morgan better!

Rigorous scientific analysis has shown this not to be the case. Men are evenly split on the Elaine/Morgan issue.

That is not true in any sense and before you go trying to say what our instincts are you may want to pick up a psychology book not written by a Freudian. And for one I am a guy and I'm not interested in Morgan, she's obnoxious and very childish.

Well, I can at least speak for myself. Sorry if I am hardwired like a Barbarian, She is kinda Childish. I can say she know what she wants. and IMHO the most annoying trait a woman could have is NOT knowing what she wants.

I'm mixed about Morgan. I can sympathize her character and do think she's very pretty, but I wouldn't prefer that she marries Guybrush. In the two chapters of TOMI she's been in she's more of pain in the butt than a help. She'd risk ruining the whole Carribean from a pox so she can get some pieces of eight of the DeSinge? What was the worst thing Elaine ever did to Guybrush? The best I can think of is throwing the map piece out the window in MI2.

Yeah ... not to fan the fires of controversy, but, uh, I'm pretty sure Elaine and Morgan are the same character model slightly modified. Morgan's arms and thighs are little bit bigger, but that's it. It's kind of like arguing who you think is hotter, Bugeye or Guybrush.
