Elaine is scaring me a bit.... o3o....

But was it just me, or did anyone else have the
Scumm Bar theme song playing when they saw the Club 41 concept art work?

all those scenery concept arts really annoy me, because they're so good, it makes you wish for a 2d game.

Stan should be Selling Lawyers, not being one.

That's EXACTLY what I was think when I was looking at the concept art.

So d'you reckon we'll be able to go inside Club 41 this time?
  • edited October 2009
Do you know if they have the same Stan voice actor?

I love the concept art. It's just what I expected Stan to look like. I liked the Curse Stan, but then the model for Stan in Escape looked awful. I'm glad they brought back a good looking Stan!

I wonder if the lines on the coat are still magic.

I cant wait to see how they will handle his fast moving arms and mouth! :D ahaha

    Stan is Stan.
Plus, why are you assuming he's a lawyer?

He may be in the episode as a witness or just selling something.

    Stan's previously owned suits.

Completely misguided voice casting pretty much took all the fun out of the Stan character. I'm honestly at a loss as to how anyone could play the first two games and not get that he was supposed to be talking and gesticulating really fast.

Yay, I'm happy to hear that Stan will be back in ep.4! Now, the intrigue is whether the episode is going to be dark (nighttime) or not... ;)

Good question... Maybe LeChuck made a new (cursed) one for her? ;)

But yeah, Elaine looks scary in that pic! But the Concept Art is really awesome, also for Stan!

    Concept art is conceptual!

Yeah I was figuring also that he probably made the concept art awhile ago and simply wasn't considering the continuity

I'm intrigued that Stan's coat has both the magical-flat-plaid pattern and proper shading... I'm sure it's doable in 3D, but I'm very curious to see how they pull it off in-game.

I'm also hoping that they bring back his "teleportation gag" from the first game. I mentioned in another thread, Brutal Legend pulled that gag off really well in 3D with Ozzy.

Yeah, exactly. It's really hard to feel at all excited about the simple mention of Stan being back. Even though the concept art is really nice and I like it a good deal more than his Curse and Escape looks, if he sounds anything remotely like the Curse incarnation then his whole presence is going to be a major letdown.

I'm sure you will be a minority in that opinion.

While that may be true, it's practically not even a matter of opinion. Stan in the first two games is so stupidly obviously a parody of the TV ads for used car lots that the slower, sleazy voice used in Curse is obviously just plain WRONG for the character. I'd make an example by citing a silent film and an obviously horrible voice choice for that character, but I doubt anyone who actually thinks the Curse voice works can possibly have anywhere near enough respect for the past to have actually watched a silent film.

Metropolis is one of the coolest movies ever.... it was a silent film

The Lon Chaney Phantom of the Opera was an incredible film!

I don't think Stan's Curse voice was THAT bad. A little slow, sure, but not an insult to the previous Monkey Island games! I hope that they do bring Pat Pinney back, just to get some consistency since he played the part in CMI and SMI.

If not him, then get the guy who played Bosco, and speed him up a bit.

Exactly, it's just Stan's voice to me now.
  • edited October 2009
Actually I consider just about any Lon Chaney film worth watching if just for his performance. Unequivocally one of the greatest actors ever.
And I didn't mind Stan in Curse because he reminded me of Lou Moffat from Fernwood Tonight.

The problem with Stans voice isn't in CMI in my opinion, it's in SMI SE, obviously due to restrictions they could only have Stan talk as fast as the text in the original game, so he came off way slower than he was in Curse. Just compare it yourself, listen to his mid sentence speed in Curse and then in SMI SE:

    Curse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNMeYkSLNCw from 21 seconds
    SMI SE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gxh9rc1_zw from 4:44

That's a very good point! That was my biggest problem with the SE, how the line delivery was somewhat stilted...

I actually liked Stan's voice in CMI, even if it did sound a little slow for the character, it sounded kinda classy and also like what a cunning businessman trying to trick you into buying something would sound! :) And in SMI, by the way, you can speed up the dialog by going to the Classic mode, using some keyboard shortcut ("+", for memory?) to increase the speed of the text, then switching back to the fancy standard mode - the dialogs won't have those annoying gaps between the spoken lines! :)

Me, neither, I liked his voice in CMI, though I would've imagined it a little differently. But in the Special Edition of SMI, he definitely talked too slowly! So, I hope he'll do it more like he did in CMI, if he voices him again.

I hope they'll go all out with his coat and make it so that it always shows the grid pattern. And said grid pattern don't move with Stan as he moves.
