Telltale, will you marry me? (Best Monkey Island chapter after Curse!)

Chapter 1 caught my interest, chapter 2 was awesome, chapter 3 I didn't care for, but this chapter was amazing!!!

The atmosphere, story, actors,....just pure perfection.

The ending was probably one of the best Monkey Island moments ever.

Some people are going to keelhaul me for this, but I really thought this gave me the old Monkey Island feeling back.
I had it with the first 2 games, had it bigtime with Curse, and now with this chapter.

I don't get why this doesn't get as good as reviews as the previous chapters do, but I'll never leave you now Telltale!

The death of Morgan and the end were superb writing and acting combined.

I sincerely think that Tales of Monkey Island is better on every level than Curse of Monkey Island, except the music (midi instead of real instruments). There, I said it! :)

Yeah I agree, especially with the latest progress in the storyline, serious touch gives a whole new depth and beauty to the game. It almost feels like (as someone who's been playing the MI games all throughout her childhood & adolescense) the game has grown up as me, and now is targeted at a more mature age. It's just so perfect. And i think it being episodal makes the gameplay much more fun too. Having to wait for it, and while waiting, playing the episodes i like again and again, is utter interactiveness.. :P
My only problem with the games however, is because it's episodal, and the episodes being so short, they can't get to play around with some of the amazing puzzles. I'm not really satisfied with the amount of puzzles, and when there's a good one like the ones in the 3rd ep.
(the manatee pickup lines and the finding inspiration from other sources for the pirate faces)
they don't last long enough. But, then again, they're getting better with each episode, and (hopefully) when there's a 2nd season they'll have the knack of the whole thing!
And I wanna marry telltale too. You're my heroes now. :3

Yeah, I agree. TOMI is way better than any other monkey island.

Silverwolfpet has a point, the midis do suck, but the main problem I have is that like 90% of the music is just a remix of older music. A couple are fine but I was hoping for something new and catchy.

I like it when games are a bit serious. Still, it's not the first Telltale death, I mean think of Bosco.

What's the point of spoiler tags? Every single one of us here has finished episode 4 lol.

I'd say it's nearly on par with CMI (which is still my favorite because of Murray, Stan and all the awesome funny dialogues). However, what I do miss a little in ToMI is interactivity with other objects that are not part of a puzzle (they had lots of that stuff and hilarious comments) in CMI, but I of course understand that they don't have the same amount of time for ToMI, that LucasArts had back then for CMI.

Still, if they can keep the quality they have accomplished so far - I can live without these extra-jokes (although I miss them). :)

Tales IS better than curse, so far, at least. Despite my issues with the story, it's nowhere near my issues with the explanation of the LeChuck's Revenge ending.

I will never understand what happened between the ending of Revenge and the start of Curse. However, I find Tales hard to place. It feels way too different to the rest of the series. As a game in itself it's really good, but when I compare it to previous Monkey Island games, it feels lacking. Can't quite put it into words, but there's just something different about it.

I think it may be some of the puzzles.
Like SoSC, when it refuses to let you carry the molten pyrite all the way to the mould, so you have to drop it from the cliff above.
Or the most recent chapter, when you use the hook to unlock things. Over and over. It was acceptable in LotL when you first use it to release Murray, but after that it started to seem pointless. Not to mention having to specifically use it to pick up the pepper. Reflex action made me click on the pepper and I had to traipse right back to DeSinge's lab to numb Guybrush's tongue all over again. (very annoying on a slow computer like mine)

Not to say that some of them aren't incredibly clever and well thought out. I LOVED the static electricity shock puzzle with the carpet. I noticed it straight away, and was itching to see how it played out while searching for the other feast objects. and the magnetic beard toy? Genius!

I really hope from the bottom my heart Lucasarts will see what an enormous succes Tales was and they'll give Telltale the rights to make Monkey Island 5 (or 6 if you wanna count Tales as 5).

Telltale, you're doing an amazing job. Lets not forget most fans turned their backs at the series after Escape (which I still hate), but you totally turned that around.
Ofcourse you guys have major restrictions because as stated here above, these are all short episodes and you cant have long streching puzzles or many more optional jokes, but you still make it into perfection.

I would buy a 1000000 extra copies of Tales if that would make Lucasarts give Telltale money to make a non episodic, full blown, Monkey Island 5 game.

There's tons of new music, each game has tons of little snippets of new music at all times, the most notable and recurring one being De Singe's theme. If you wanted to hear all the different little cues, you can pull them out of the games with a tool from the mojo hosted site.

They have to redo some of the music, like the theme, or Lechuck's theme, or Stan's music, they're staples of the series. I especially liked the redone version of "Guybrush and Elaine" in episode 2, as well as the numerous versions of Lechuck's theme.

I actually like the MIDI. It screams "early 90's adventure", and that can only be a good thing. :D

As much as I'd like to agree with this, I'm too madly in love with the soundtracks to Sam and Max to really agree.

Good point. If they go MIDI for S&M 3, I'm taking my ball and going home. :P But it seems "right" for MI.

Yeah, I had hoped for new music. But tbh there's no way around the midis because of the sound thing, and given the speed with which each ep is released I don't suppose music will be top of their list. That said, steal drums/fiddles/etc. are impossible to make a bad sound with!

I know what you mean. It's certainly got a different feel to it. Mermaid cities... :)
