Episode 4 "Did You Try?" List

edited January 2010 in Tales of Monkey Island
Well, while on Flotsam, did you try:

- Looking at and reading the courthouse flag
- Using the glass eye with every character including the cat and seagull
- Using Jacques with the "draw the beard on Guybrush" toy three times
- Use Jacques with Morgan while she is at the bar
- Click on Miss Prettywhiskers twice while Hemlock McGee is the witness
- Offer the correct glass eye to D'Oro IN court
- When pleading not guilty to the creation of the pox, select every dialogue option except before "The pox isn't my fault!"
- Talk to W.P. while Morgan and Elaine are fighting on the bar
- Use both drink recipes with W.P. during the sword fight
- Order the Phatt Island Phizz twice during the bar fight
- Pull the string on the Guybrush doll twice
- Use La Esponja Grande with the nor treblig rug
- Talk to Stan about the pins twice
- Look at the large picture being projected onto the wall in DeSinge's lab twice
- Tell W.P. that Morgan was murdered
- After wetting one leg in the well, try to wet another
- Look at the chest in the jungle after opening it and taking the tarot cards

I'm sure there's many more within the game. Most of them are probably better than mine so post 'em here for us all to try!

These threads are always a good read, but is it really neccesary to put everything in spoiler tags? It should be enough to just label the thread as a spoiler thread, and then people who have not yet completed the chapter can avoid the thread entirely.

    Seconding the superflous spoiler sentiment.

Try putting the leg lamp on the altar in the jungle.

...or trying to escape from the jail cell by fiddling with the loose bar or weak plaster.

Done - spoiler tags on in the title :)

Cool, but my point was that the
    spoiler tags
hiding the text are annoying. ;)

We should get rid of em, they're only good in Hints.

Or else you fail to understand the concept of these threads. Actions necessary to win don't count.

    Heh.

Try checking Elaine's ring after getting it back/being freed of all charges/having the poxed woman run rampant?
Try using the broken toy of Guybrush's beard on the cat?
Try using the banana/shock pedals in the ruined home of De Singe?

Come to think of it, try using anything with Morgan while she's in de Singe's house?

    Nothing happens.

    Nothing happens.

Thanks. I rather like Morgan: it'd feel creepy trying to use the sponge or ring on her. He doesn't say anything at all or just "that wont work"?

Speaking for that Ring, it better have SOME good use. It'd be corny if he holds it just to get down on a bended knee and hand it back, nuh uh. that ring has to be useful. I tried using it on the glass tubes (diamond cuts glass?) but no luck.

Yeah, just stuff like "Hmm no", "No", Uh-uh", "That doesn't need illuminating" etc.

"That doesn't need illuminating" nearly drove me mad. Seeing him pick it back up at the end made me want to slap my face - just the thought of using it some more was baaad.

Did you try giving the last Volcano shot to Morgan?
Hook on the plant (before giving it the lamp)?
Hook on deSing while he's dueling Elaine?
Suger on the ocean (on the small beach where Guybrush washed up in chapter 1)?

It'd be really bad if they suddenly decided that Guybrush would have witty responses to using things with her corpse. It would... remove a lot of the emotion, and feel very out of place. So I'm glad they didn't do that.

Honestly, I felt horrible examining things in that room with her there at all. I felt like I should've been mourning more or something.

Though I would have liked if he had said something akin to "No. Just no." instead of the default responses...

-did you used all the possibiltys of the machine in desinges labor...

    hilliorous:D
  • edited October 2009
    Did you...

-call Hemlock as a witness, then use Jacques the monkey with Miss Prettywhiskers WITHOUT feeding her iron first?
-use the pepper with De Singe before attempting to throw La Esponja into the giant wind device?
-use the pepper with De Singe while he's fighting Elaine, before attracting the fireflies to the bucket of water?
-use the pepper with Elaine in the finale at any point?

    And did you...
-look at the Jungle Beast painting in Club 41 before talking to Hemlock (twice), after talking to Hemlock about the beast, and after meeting the beast?
-look at the jungle altar before leaving a sacrifice, after leaving a sacrifice, and after obtaining the lion's paw?

    Did you try:

    - Looking a Jacque's cage after he is no longer inside of it
    - Asking Crimpdigit "Are you as scandalized by this trial as I am?" after GUYBRUSH's trial is over
    - Clicking on the balcony after going into DeSinge's house for the second time
    - Going back into DeSinge's limb filled room a second time
    - Looking at the rowboat after Guybrush's trial
    - Using a severed leg with the un-sugary well water
    - Using the leg lamp with the un-sugary well water
    - Using a wet (but un-sugary) severed leg with the altar
    - Using the sponge with the wind control device before being captured by DeSinge
    - Placing a dry, severed limb on the altar
    - Using a sugary severed limb with the moths
    - Using the sponge with the tiger paw while it's still in the monster's mouth
    - Using the sponge and the bag of limbs with the monster
    - Looking at the sponge after combining it with each feast item
    - Using the leg lamp with Stan without the moths on it
    - Continually dragging Guybrush over the Club 41 green rug with the mouse until something happens (twice)
    - Reading the courthouse bulletin during and after Guybrush's trial
    - Looking at the lamp leg with the moths attracted to it
    - Using the sponge with the chest of foreshadowing
    - Using the pepper, your hook and the sponge with DeSinge before he begins fighting Elaine
    - Using your hook with both yours and Elaine's clamshell locks

    hopefully more to come...

    Did you...
Look at the bucket of water in the finale scene twice?
Talk to Elaine about your plans before throwing the sponge in?
Talk to De Singe at the same point, but about his turban?

Something amusing happens when you make an 'illegal map move'

Use the map to get to the question mark.
Then fold the map in a way that the question mark is not visible.
Then try to walk off screen.

And yet the "Return to Jungle Entrance" button still works. :p

    Did you try..

... asking Crimpdigit if he's seen Elaine after she runs off into the jungle? It was one of my favorite things in the game :D

... examining the bucket in the final scene twice?

Well, while on Flotsam, did you try:

    - Using the glass eye with every character including the cat and seagull

While you're at it, did you also try combining it with Jacques while he's in your inventory and on Krebbs after you cleared her case?

    And did you

    - Offer the leg lamp in court as evidence, but with the wrong colour?
    - Colour the lamp to get a yellow parrot shape?
    - Get slapped in the bar fight more than once?
    - Enrage the judge in all the various ways by objecting and calling Guybrush as a witness multiple times?
    - Reload the game in order to see the different scenes to get out of jail?
    - Talk to Hemlock after having met the jungle beast?
    - Try to enter the Keelhauler door twice?
    - Examine the skeleton in de Singe's lab?
    - Talk to the voodoo lady after noticing her shack was burned down?
    - look at the buffet before and after Elaine and Morgan have been fighting on the table?
    - Look at the bag of sugar before it was knocked down in the fight?
  • edited November 2009
    - did you try offering the lamp leg on the alter (with or without moth)?
    - did you try to use the hook with the prison wall (twice)?
    - did you try to enter the restroom while Elaine and Morgan are fighting on the bar?

Ohoho, I'm surprised no one caught this one yet:

Did you try examining Jaques while he's in your inventory?

I'm sure MI3 fans will appreciate the little diddy that follows. ;D <3

That ring has been annoying me for 4 chapters now.

Where'd you see the glass tubes? I played the episode, and I still don't know what that whole thing about the glassblower and the glass tubes was about.

Or are the tubes those domes over the jungle idols? Those aren't really tubes, are they?
