edited November 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Hello, is there anyone who could help me out to understand the meaning of these words I read in Episode 4 (I'm Italian)?

CHUM-HOLE
GROSSCUP
POPNECKER
SCHOONER-MOM
THWAIN

I swear I searched almost everywhere, but with no success. :p

Its all sort of made up slang I think. here is what I think on some of them, as I understood it.

Chum is fish gut bait.... they use it to attract big fish..... CHUM-HOLE would be like saying "shut your mouth"

Schooner-Mom is I think a play on the term "Soccer (football) Mom" who drive Mini Vans to their kids games/match schooner is a type of ship.

Thwain isn't a real word. Guybrush was punning on the word "twain," which is archaic English for "two halves". So "thwain" would be "three pieces."

Is the Grosscup the bit where he is looking at the
paintings of previous judges in the courtroom
and it is meant to look like David Grossman? If that's the case then it's a guy's name and not meant to mean a word with an Italian equivalent.

    About "Popnecker"...

Is that a reference to Herbie Popnecker?

It might help to post the sentences where you found these, since they do seem to be made-up words, and we'd need the context to be able to understand them

A schooner is a type of sailing ship that was popular amongst pirates. "Schooner mom" is probably a referance to the phrase "soccer mom", a term referring to middle-class suburban women who spend a lot of time driving their children to youth sports and other activities.

Elaine is not a mother, but Morgan was probably implying that she's no longer young or hip.

Yeah, I know, but I just scribbled these words on the fly while I was playing.
I thought finding their meaning would be easier! :p

    Thanks anyway, guys.
