MI 3 banjo duel issue

edited November 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
I'm playing curse on xp with scummvm, and I have found a bug that won't let me progress. In the banjo duel, once per round, the split second after guybrush finishes playing (before I get a chance to choose a note) the game thinks I picked the wrong note/took too long and I fail.

Any ideas?

You can choose a note while Guybrush is still playing.

Yeah, if the strings you have to press are like 3,1,4,3 then just press them as soon Guybrush starts playing, don't bother waiting for him to finish playing. It's not about timing, just getting the notes right,

I played through this section on ScummVM recently and got through OK once I read the strategy guide and worked out what the hell I was meant to do.

However, I'm presently vying to win either a talking skull or an anchor, and the entre bloody scene has gone black with bits of colour or outlines in it. Grrr

That's actually a glitch in the game itself, something to do with examining the top lights I think? I can't remember now, but once you do that, the screen fades to what you described.

Yeah, I tried to get Guybrush to read a sign, now I'm blundering around in the dark. Will it solve itself if I manage to get out from wherever the hell I am into whatever the next scene is?

just load a saved game for before you do it. If you need one, I can provide.

I was getting this under ScummVM also, in the end I gave up running it under ScummVM and started using the CMI Launcher (avaliable from - http://quick.mixnmojo.com/software )

All you do is install the game as normal from the original cds then run the launcher. If you click on options you have the option to run CMI from the hard drive, it will copy files across from both cds. And make sure to use the launcher, and not the original shortcuts whenever you want to play the game.

Oh, I loved this puzzle! An interactive music-related puzzle in Monkey Island is a perfect mix!

people use old versions of ScummVM, then complain about bugs. Always get the latest version.

Yeah, make sure you are using the latest version of ScummVM for the banjo part. I had the exact same issue when I re-played that game several months ago. I was playing with an old installation of ScummVM and the latest version fixed it.
