monkey island statue isnt purcell? and damaged again!

edited November 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Got my MI statue yesterday

the front was opened as if the post did it, cant even see what is written on it, its so badly damaged. Symbiote is normally good with such things but I dislike how they have no contact number just an email.

My first question..

didnt purcell have something to do with this statue, and why does it look different than the original models I saw,
'this one says on the side that purcell had no involvement... at all, I only got the statue due to it being sorta worked with him.(sorta like sam n max)

anyway anyone else get their statues? what mode of shipment did you use, how long did it take and was there any damage ?

just curious, as im returning this item (its the second time they sent me a ruined box and statue) assuming its only shipping, they need to think about better packaging.

any advice or quips have at me..
its just soo much to pay for a pre damaged item.

I didn't order any statues, but that sounds like pretty bad business to me. Someone should be giving you a refund

dont get me wrong.. symbiote is VERY VERY workable.. as soon as you CAN get ahold of them

last time my sam n max statue came broken and box damaged.. they just sent me a new one after I showed em a pic.. Had to pay shipping but meh.. for me its not much in the states..

still this one im flat out returning, esp with the awesome yet lame offer of HALF OFF on the S&M statue.. this is a stab in the back for those who bought right away.
so does this mean EVERYONE should just wait.. sorta like telltale... and wait for the discounts to buy stuff...
All I know is im getting wallace n gromit for 20$ vs the original.. seems .. odd ..
Not that I want to complain over cheaper stuff.. just .. morally seems damaging to the consumers who jumped on the items for them later to be HALF price... if you only had waited...

so the question is.. shall we all wait for the next statue .. and get the MI for half off lol.. sigh..

no phone number ..symbiote isnt in BBB listing yet.. and they dont have any way of contact other than a website fillin box..

BUT they are nice folks.. just... need to learn how to protect shipments esp when its 100+ per 8lb statue IN the states.. much less say EUR or AUS.

I don't recall any mention of Steve Purcell having anything to do with the MI statue. As far as I know it was always just a collaboration between Symbiote and LucasArts, and they did post pictures of both the painted and the unpainted model before it was released, and it has always had the distinctive look of the MI Special Edition, which had no Purcell involvement

yea i got it backwards.. thought this was the telltale version statue..

im returning it when they ever email me.. or ill file a new bbb and paypal claim and send it on the way.

no one else got their statue ? at all?

    odd..

I don't know about everyone else, but I didn't want to buy gaudy colorful crap whose only purpose was to shit on a shelf taking up space and looking gaudy.

Yeah, they can talk to me when they make statues that look like the original box art designs.

You sure have no clue about the market and such? Why every game is priced $59.99 at release? Everything initially have more demand then it ever will achieve later under the product cycle. This is why the value of new items degrade after time, you get more products out hence less demand.
So it's in that way you can really show what you want to pay for a specific item, you wait until the price is right.
Therefore you can only blame yourself for paying the full price for a new item and never the shop/developer/maker etc.

So go ahead kind sir and just wait! (Though if you wait to much they will discontinue productions for the next model)

    No clue about the market?

degrade? this is a NEW item there not old. You cant just say, ok here is a brand new car for 10,000$ to a person, then buy it and as you get in it, that same guy sells the same car to someone else for 5000$
blame yourself sure, but is it underhanded and a bit.. shady .. yes. Regardless if its "buisness"

I would get my money back.. which is what im doing here.
    ive opened a case

EDIT : statues are ugly? huh? sam n max is awesome

Mine also came damaged, and they are ignoring my attempts to contact them through the form. I paid through Paypal, and just now realized that Paypal provides their contact info:
    Phone: 520-977-0256
    Email: info@symbiotestudios.com
I called the number and it went to some dude's cell phone voicemail. Very professional. Once I get my refund, I think I am done with this company.

let me ask this wraslor.. did it come UPS?

im placing a bet that it did!.. and this is why I requested a refund..
sad thing is .. that guy .. or guys are nice,
but yes.. not professional at all...
you got further than me with the email...

but if many people keep getting damaged stuff.. dont you think as a company you would
    A. check the shipping packaging making sure reguardless of method of shipment that it would be safe
    B. sue the SH@# out of UPS for damaged goods
    C. make sure it doesnt happen over n over..

since this did happen with sam n max.. they pleased me by sending a 2nd statue.. no questions asked.. even added me in their blog..
but now, again MI statue.. even though I requested USPS and not UPS, still was sent UPS and damaged. Here we go again. Got an email saying my 2nd one was on the way..

i didnt want a 2nd one.. I wanted the refund...

    soo

since I dont want to shut down symbiote, and know that this company is new and well, just needs work... im looking to sell the statues for half price IF this cant be resolved via refund.

works out for any fan who cant afford shipping I think :P

@Kaldfire: I would be interested in the statue depending on a few things. Let me kno w.

Dossent sound like a good idea to buy the statue :( eanyway it looks awsome (if its not broken)

My statue came via USPS priority mail. No problems at all with shipping-- the statue actually had a production flaw wherein Guybrush was halfway decapitated. I finally got an email response saying they would send a replacement if I sent a picture.

??? The Sam and Max statue has been out for quite some time now, and that is the "lower price" you were complaining about, hence his point is entirely valid and your response is nonsensical.

On the topic of the statue, I still haven't gotten mine. FedEx apparently delivered it to USPS (For god knows what reason) and it says "Allow 1-2 additional days" on the FedEx tracking number now. I've never had something ship so slowly.

Yeah, FedEx and USPS have a collaborative service called SmartPost. Probably means Symbiote saved some money.

In case anyone's interested in my decapitated Guybrush:

i dont agree pale man.. the sam and max statue is still NEW by any standards..

    sorry bub.. mission failure

even if one thinks it.. and millions dont.. its true.. in this case.. many people here are already complaining about the WG price cuts and the sam n max cuts since the cons vs the site..

so yea im the ONLY one pale...

    shunt

    also
symbiote normally uses UPS.. and not USPS or fed ex..
UPS = the worst unless you count italy and canada
    so idk

^ shops reduce items all the time, especially when they've had them for a while. Go in any store and you'll find things discounted that someone else paid full price for a week ago. If you don't like it then take your chances next time you want something and wait to see if it gets cheaper - however you may end up missing out completely.
  • edited November 2009
I also meant to say... why should an online store be any different to a high street store? It makes sense to reduce older items or provide multibuy discounts.

So being 9 months old still counts as new? That's interesting. Everyone on earth knows that if you buy right away, it will sooner or later become a bit cheaper than what you paid for it. As someone has already said, initial demand for a product on release is very high so they can justify a higher price point, once sales drop off considerably and they want to move their remaining product, they will drop the price as an incentive to boost sales. If you don't want to pay more for things, never buy on release. Buying something on release in no way qualifies you to complain about later price drops, because as a consumer you should already understand that price drops are an inevitability.

(Not only that but I wouldn't even consider the Sam and Max deal a "price drop" since you have to buy 2 statues at once to get the deal)

Ick, I just saw the photo of the statue. If they recreate the original box art guybrush, sword, eyeball necklace, pose and all in the form of a resin statue (1/6 scale) I would totally shell out major $$ for that. The whole damn diorama from Lechuck's Revenge cover would be a stretch but it would be a fanboy's dream come true.

pale.. again you arent agreeing to disagree.. which is infantile, If even one person thinks so it is.. ever hear of that expression. (sorta side digression but still)
If you think anyone in usa has no right to complain, you already lost the battle lol, whether there is validity in the complaint isnt for you to decide. its for the consumer, which in this case was not you.(MI wise)

yes Im aware things attenuate in value im no moron, but releasing two statues only to have the first be half off is a slap on the face to those who bought it right away thinking it would sell out (AND STILL IT HAS NOT)
so with your paradigm .. paleman, the ignorant suffer .. hazaa

and 9 months in terms of merch.. is new... in terms of computers and games.. its old... same with flys.. only living a few days..

so OLD is relative as is 99.9% of all things
yes the sam n max statue is new.. still... even in MOST eyes...
take sam n max as a whole... how old is the comic... now compare that to 9 months ago.. seems a bit .. new..

    rgr
    10-4

!!!oh and .. joesph of symbiote is just a kid... but a nice one... I spoke to him on the phone after paypal refused to even disclose info about his company without court documents. He agreed finally to refund my money if I sent back the statue. but this was a verbal contract, nothing written. so yeaaa

nice dude.. bad start for a company (shipping wise)

shipping is haaaaard to gain control of though.. so its best to learn to package properly !

You're still complaining about a buy one get one half off deal, which you have no right to complain about since you bought the statue early. If you want deals, don't buy right away. If something is included as part of a package deal, it's not the same as being discounted, and either way, 9 months is not new in any sense of the word. I think you'd have a hard time finding anything that isn't put into some kind of promotional deal or put on sale nine months after being released.

Your sense of entitlement is pretty ridiculous. Just because something goes on sale (not to mention a buy one get one sale that is inherently designed to encourage multiple purchases) at some point does not mean that the company is insulting you or that you deserve any money back.

here we go again about having no rights blah blah

stop this, im shocked you have not been modded.
you will argue like a mad man against a brick wall. You cant change my view.. stop trying. And dont EVER state people dont have the right to do X... or Y

I have every right to complain.. this is not illegal nor is it morally unjust.. could it be pointless .. sure, could it be a waste of time.. indeed.. but no right?

you have no tact and dont understand a thing im saying, and once again you make this PERSONAL, as if im the ONLY one who is complaining. see wallace n gromit and SB threads during the 20$ deal .. see what you ... see..

lastly did I say I wanted money back ? no ... you are again assuming and putting crup in my mouth. I said it felt shady and wrong, not that we need recompense.

get a life and stop hassling me ok? this wasnt directed AT YOU .. and you are now directing stuff AT ME.. which I find far more offensive than myself complaining about discounts..

so END OF LINE your code please..

    mods... mod this up..

pale.. see you in a better thread where .. you might not attack me as much over views you just dont share with others.

I must've been very lucky when my Sam and Max statue arrived in perfect condition. Especially considering it had to travel all the way to the Netherlands.

How is having a buy one get one half off sale "shady"? I guess that makes every business in the history of the world "shady" so good luck finding a company that will never put anything on sale or into some promotional package.

I take that to mean you haven't yet found a company that refuses to put a product on sale more than nine months after you've purchased it.

Pale Man's right, though. Stuff drops in price. Merchandise drops in price. Especially if it's branded as "Collectible", in which case it almost certainly is not collectible in any meaningful in any real sense of the word, and I'm shocked it went nine months before having ANY sort of price drop. ESPECIALLY since this is in the form of a buy-one-get-one, so that people STILL pay a higher dollar amount for the statue even if the per-unit cost is lower.

FYI, Symbiote shipped me a replacement statue--not just the flawed Guybrush part, but the entire statue--for the low, low price of free. Good to see that they're willing to do the right thing.

I'm thinking of selling the flawed statue on eBay for $50. PM me if you're interested.
