Six Senses let down..

edited November 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
This was a odd episode! Starts off brilliant and ends brilliant but finding the whole Six Senses was too frustrating. It just didn't seem to 'work', wasn't really a puzzle.
Had to cheat to figure them out!

Let down because of the Six sense part but still brilliant!
Anyone else had to cheat??

Not really. All of the six senses were pretty obvious. It's obvious
a lot has to be found in the jungle
, and there were plenty of hints elsewhere. Finally, all puzzles in Club 41 made perfectly sense.

The voodoo lady gave some superhelpful hints ~
I thought the 5th puzzle was very frustrating indeed (the one with the shock), where you had to "cut a rug" Roger Wilco (SQ6) style. I don't think the movement mechanics are right puzzle solving instruments
the map puzzle was superbrilliant though!

The Six Senses were some of the best puzzles in the series(and the map puzzle was, dare I say, one of the best of Telltale's history).

    Why would you do that?
The fun is figuring out the puzzles. The harder, the better.
I loved the puzzles in this episode much more then the ones in the earlier episodes.

The fourth sense was trippy. That is all.

The harder, the better isn't COMPLETELY accurate, but it's fairly good advice to Telltale all the same. Their commitment to logical puzzles is a good one, and it always has me in the mindset of "If I can't figure it out, it's MY fault". Their games are fair, but perhaps a bit too easy on you in the process.

You and me both brother. I used walkthrough long ago when I was really stuck in EMI. Now, finally I got stuck again, but I wanted to do it myself no matter what. After hours of brainstorming the puzzles finally unlocked and that feeling is over 9000 times more rewarding than cheating.

    Seconded!

I have to admit it wasn't so easy for me - when I met the puzzle, I looked around a bit, and I was like "now what?". But after some more querying and exploring it gradually unfolded - and it's a credit to Telltale's puzzle design that they allowed the player to solve most steps of a sequential puzzle in parallel - it's always much more fun to have multiple pans in the fire :)

    Hah :D

I thought it was a fantastic bit of the game and series, was the best episode by far.
And as for the jungle bit, I thought it was probably the most obvious one to solve.
  • edited November 2009
I know for a fact there were easier puzzles to solve than the jungle one.

yeah, but I realized only after posting :D

I thought there were some nice puzzles, thinking-wise. They didn't feel meaty enough, story-wise, to make up the percentage of the episode that they did, though, in my opinion. I think the episode would have benefited greatly from some sort of third act after this sequence but before the "boss fight," but I don't know what they would have put in there. Just felt like the whole episode was missing something, but I don't know what.

Loved those puzzles :) got satisfyingly stuck a couple times

you mean like a rare gold and silver trimmed, diamond encrusted sextant?
  • edited November 2009
I can't believe it took me this long to remember to look up what a sextant was.

Lol, I read this post the moment after I looked up what a sextant is.

On topic: I loved the sixth-sense puzzle, this was seriously one of the best puzzles in the whole game, or one of the best in every game ever.

I thought they were all great. The only which stumped me was the electric one. I knew it was something to do with the carpet but, much like the seagull in SoMI it took me a while.

I also get stuck with the "shock" thing. I thought that the shock you get by simply exiting the Club 41 was enough. I had to see the walkthrough to learn I had to walk around on the carpet, without actually "interact" with it. I think they kinda cheated us with that puzzle. I don't think it's exactly like the seagull puzzle in SoMI, because if you walk on the loose plank, you inmediately see something happening (the plank moves and the seagul flies) But if you just walk on the carpet, nothing happens unless you walk back and forth a few times, which isn't very natural. Maybe I've miss some hint about the carpet, though.

    Agree!!
  • edited November 2009
The biggest hint on the carpet was the crackling sound it made when walking over it.

To be honest, it took me a while to realize that the shock Guybrush kept getting when he left the club was static from the carpet. I was REALLY confused. It might have been easier to figure out if we could actually see him touch the door and get shocked. On the other hand, walking around on the rug and trying to figure out what the shock was coming from made me unintentionally solve that puzzle in the end, so I guess it was actually helpful XD

Same here, and that was kind of a funny feeling.

I didn't get it right away either I kept saying "what the heck is going on?"
  • edited November 2009
I just folded the map in there and he commented on it and i assumend folding the map made the shock work
  • edited November 2009
I just got lucky. I was thinking about what to do so I randomly clicked around and made GT pace on the carpet... SooOOoooo. Lucky me!
  • edited November 2009
I looked at TTG's walkthrough and then I was like "OOOOHH DUH that is what was going on" Then I felt stupid and decided never to talk about it...................... SHOOT!!!
  • edited November 2009
Since I was playing this together with a friend, she figured out the carpet thing before I did. I'm sure I would have probably been stuck on it forever if she hadn't. We figured out the map folding thing by accident though and decided to work it out from there.

Guybrush noticed when he took over her body.... It made me laugh so hard when he was shaking her ....um "extras" and making that silly face.

lol, that's pretty much how I solved it too, just happened to be random pacing... I don't think I woulda got it otherwise, I guess I'm too used to thinking in "point and click" terms when playing adventure games still

maybe if Guybrush had said something like "Walking on this carpet makes me feel all tingly" when the carpet was examined would have helped... (I can't remember what he does say, I just remember it isn't helpful at all)

I'm extremely happy I got to use my brain more this episode. The sixth sense puzzle was challenging. TTG once again listens to the customer base. Great job. More challenges!
  • edited November 2009
I actually had real trouble with the six senses for awhile there...I think the problem was this was the first REALLY challenging puzzle I found in the telltale games I've played...the worst ones for me was stan's jacket and the map puzzle...I played the game over several days so the solution to the first course just didnt click for ages...

The map one though took me awhile because I initially thought that I had to be in a certain area of the forest for the map thing to work...but then BAM I realised what was happening...lol

You gotta be thankful that there aren't any quadrants or octants involved (yet) :D

    Hard yes

    Impossible no

and this is adventure game and I expect harder puzzles and challenges as we are nearing the ending.

Just have patience, man :) Do it like me, and whenever you get really stuck close the game and play it the next day! If anyone figured it out with out even a hint, you can also do it!

I solved the episode all the way by myself with only one hint (that when Guybrush said "I need to check De Singe lab again...... and I discovered that I did not unlock that door") and I am not even english native speaker (which means I can't understand some of the vocab)

So in the next episode whenever you get stuck just go out and relax ;) Don't give up into cheating!!

The only bit I got briefly stuck at was following the fireflies. I knew what to do, but was using the keypad, so I couldn't click the fireflies and follow the path off the right side of the screen, even though it was obvious what I needed to do.
...Yep, and I wasn't exactly stuck there for long

If you think about previous games, some of the harder puzzles are towards the end of the game... so if you treat Tales as an entire game as we should, chapter four should be one with some harder puzzles.
  • edited November 2009
I think this was the hardest episode so far and its good that they ramped up the difficulty since I felt that previous episodes where too easy, specially 1 & 2.
