Nothing whatsoever. But considering the special edition was as popular as it was, it'd be stupid of them to not do the sequel in some way. But then again, Lucasarts has made plenty of stupid decisions.

I have to believe there was a reason they didn't include MI2 in their classics release on steam. I hope its because they didnt want releasing it to interfere with sales for a special edition release in the near future.... its the only thing that makes sense why else wouldn't they release it? Now would be the perfect time with ToMI and SoMI:SE out recently.

We'll just have to keep a close eye on Dominic Armato. If he suddenly gets really busy, we'll have a pretty good idea why, won't we?

There are a heap of games they haven't released though. I wonder if they are planing on releasing all the Monkey Island games at the same time. Since they started working with Steam they have been relatively active on it but sadly they haven't adding any adventure games since SMI:SE. Hopefully we will start seeing more of the classics soon.

As for MI2 I don't think it's a matter of 'if' anymore but more 'when?' When SoMI:SE came out LucasArts went on record saying that no remake of MI2 was currently in the works because they wanted to wait and see if SoMI:SE would be a success. SoMI:SE greatly exceeded sales expectations and was a hit with both critics and fans. LucasArts dropped in one of the various interviews that it took them nine months to make SoMI:SE. Assuming a remake of MI2 would take a similar time span I think we can expect a release around April–May next year.

For those looking for an official word you are probably not going to hear one for a while but considering the success and enthusiasm surrounding SoMI:SE I'd say a follow-up is a virtual certainty.

MI2:SR is a bigger game than SOMI so I'd expect it to take quite a bit longer.

Maybe not quite a bit longer but you could certainly add a couple of months to the time frame. Though it's hard to say if they will expand the team due to the first games success and seeing as they have already figured out how to program over the original code in the they won't have to go through that learning process again. There are a lot of factors to consider so it's hard to really put a finger down on when it should be done. I guess we'll just have to wait and see :)

the thing that will take longest is the bottles on the wall song they might have to cut it out the SE

I think, we don't see MI2:SE, until ToMI and DeathSpank are out. Ron Gilbert is busy right now, isn't he?
  • edited November 2009
Yeah, he's busy, but DeathSpank is the only one of those he's involved in. He brainstormed for Tales at the beginning, but he wasn't involved in development of either Tales or SoMI:SE.

Ron Gilbert unfortunately has nothing to do with it

A stake-out? You get the drinks, I'll get the doughnuts!

It wouldn't make any business sense whatsoever not to release an MI2:SE. The stupid decisions in the past may have been stupid to us adventure-gamers, but in fact went on to make LA much more money than had they continued to spend resources on adventure-games (arguably, as we don't have that many figures). SoMI:SE was a success and given they already now have recent experience in producing an SE, and the structures in place, it'd make sense to continue to cream from consumers.

Maybe if we're lucky, they'll do a special edition of Escape from Monkey Island. Yeah, they won't be able to fix the more sticky or annoying plot points, but at least it'd be more playable than the current version (damn raft glitch and rock puzzle).

They can skip Curse, though. That game is as perfect as it was 12 years ago. Maybe they can just do a re-release that doesn't require ScummVM or CMI Launcher to run on newer machines.

I was going to write that it'd be interesting to see if they went beyond SoMI:LCR:SE. But the problem is I don't think they'd make that much out of doing CoMI, and it'd seem odd just skipping to EfMI.

That said, I quite liked certain elements to EfMI and the ever-smiling Guybrush and the cumbersome feel to it (along with the abominable background quality) really dragged it down. If they put the game into a better style it might help. Though, the 3d EfMI is slightly different to re-do than the 2d SoMI.

thye could re add the scene of Elaine and LeChuck fighting and the plank of love song that got cut
  • edited November 2009
Yeah! I wanna see the REAL end of Curse :D :D
  • edited November 2009
CMI with high resolution art. That would be awesome. Some kind of Directors Cut, with the things that couldn't be added earlier, like tha plank of love and so on.

Though, Bill Tiller should do that.

And up the resolution. The box claims that 640x480 are "incredible high resolution graphics"
    Widescreen would be nice too.

    Ah, the good old days!

Suppose they could do a remake with a few extra things.

the LOOM ad clamed stunningly rentured 3D

It's really not good enough that almost a decade on, Telltale are still using 3D. Get with the times guys: 4D or bust!

a lot of people probably don't realize it, but CMI was done in 256 colors. Up it to 16 bit at least, upgrade resolution to HD, add the deleted cutscenes and the scrapped ending song, and you got one hell of a remake. I'd pay 500$ for that :}~

I would give up chocolate for that.

There was a Twitter account a while back under "LECSteam" that dated an MI2:SE release. It no longer exists. Considering the date it gave is long past, I'd say it was definitely a fake.
