How do YOU think TOMI will end?

How do you think the story will end? Who will be dead, who will be alive? Will LeChuck stay evil? Will Elaine and Guybrush live happily ever after? Will Guybrush get his hand back? Will Timmy the monkey make an appearance?

Here are my thoughts...
  • Morgan LeFlay won't really be dead by the end of the series...
  • Elaine and Guybrush end up happily together...
  • The Voodoo Lady isn't really evil...
  • LeChuck is really evil, but won't be destroyed...
  • Guybrush will have his hand magically re-attached...
  • Jacques the monkey and Stan will both be in the final "party" shot at the end of the game...

I hope I'm wrong, because all of these are depressingly Saturday morning cartoon and, even though I was 12 when the first game out, I'm 31 now.

    I know how it'll end!
    It'll end with credits!

In all seriousness, I think Morgan will end up dying for real, since we didn't hear her "death cry" the Voodoo Lady made when you give her the flyer.
And the Pirate God will be a giant monkey.

    Huh?

In chapter one, if you show Morgan's flyer to the Voodoo Lady, she starts saying all kinds of crazy stuff, which is mostly stuff Morgan says in later episodes.
Except, we haven't heard the death cry. At least, it sounded like someone dying.

I wonder how I even missed that? I guess I didn't think much of that flyer.

Wasn't the 'death cry' her scream when she got booted off the narwhal at the start of chapter 2?

Did she scream? I don't remember.
    Well, there goes my theory.

Huh? I need some explanatory work here...I remember the Voodoo Lady saying something like "Guybrush Threepwood - the skull was right! There is no escape!"

But none of that came from Morgan's mouth later on...
  • edited November 2009
Maybe she screamed it off screen when she got
    shish kabobed

The "there is no escape", I don't remember hearing, but I remember her saying "the skull is right" in chapter three, and in chapter two, she says "Guybrush Threepwood!"

Aaaah, right. When Guybrush interrogates Coronado's crew in search for the Tongue of the Manatee. Wow, you have an eye for detail. I never would have noticed that. Maybe the "There's no escape" will come from her when they meet again in the land of the dead and Guybrush tries to find a way out.

Yeah, it will be released by Lechuck using the monkey ritual at the Rock of Gelato...

He will finish what he was doing at the beginning of the game...

Or guybrush will come between the voodoo ritual force and the rock of gelato and HE will be the pirate god or maybe it will be luchuck or elaine or...

It will end with the revelation that its all been just a PC adventure game the whole time.

Guybrush stays dead and LeChuck turns Elaine into his demonic pirate bride and they sail into the sunset together with Murray who has plans of world conquest. When the final credits run we'll see that Screaming Narwhal has been turned into one big viking funeral pyre, where bodies of Guybrush and Morgan burn.
  • edited November 2009
After all his fatigue, at the very end, Guybrush will say: "I want an ice cream!".
Elaine will shout: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" and say: "Here's your nice scream, honey".

    THE END

If that turns out not to be the ending, I want Telltale to at least include it on the DVD as an alternate ending.

After being deeply disappointed by the last scene of "Escape," all I want is a happy ending for Elaine and Guybrush.

Some of the one-liners in Chapter 4 make me think this will definitely happen ;)
  • edited November 2009
I don't know how it should end, but I know how it should start...

With Guybrush's funeral. A very dramatic and mostly silent film. It could start with a lot of people following the carriage of the coffin to the cementery, with everyone really sad: Elaine, Winslow, and even cameos from older characters that we haven't seen in a long time. A priest reads a speech and Guybrush is burried.
Meanwhile... LeChuck starts his new kingdom of terror.

    ... with Dinghy Dog!

Need DD. Have to have 'im!

I'm hoping they go for the mega happy ending that ends with a final shot of something unresolved that might lead to a sequel - you know how they defeat the bad guy and then in the end it goes "THE END?" and evil laughter or something.

I hope they don't do a Broken Sword 4 ending which was a total let down. "Let's go home." Seriously (Homestar style).

i remember reading that the guys at telltale said somthing like 'somthing that has become a neverending cycle for guybrush will be broken at last'

i read that some pepole think that le chuck finaly dies as this is the only thing that has always happened in the games. what do you guys reckon?

Or maybe since he goes to Monkey Island in every game...
I don't know, I just can't imagine them putting Monkey Island in this game.

Or maybe his beard is a success this time and he gets to keep it....
  • edited November 2009
Maybe the end of the never ending cycle will be not ending up on Monkey Island
  • edited November 2009
they better put monkey island in this game i mean.. come on!! We have to wait till the 8h of december... if this chapter won't be longer and at least show us monkey island there is only one thing to say to you TTG: YOU FAIL!
  • edited November 2009
I think this cycle might have something to do with the secret of monkey island. I mean, you can't kill lechuck off for good, he's the main villain. Since Ron Gilbert was helping Telltale with the game he might have spilled the beans to them what the secret actually is.

I think the pirate god is literally god... but the one of pirates. Seeing as Morgan, DeSinge, and Guybrush are dead (possibly Wally too seeing as nobody knows where he is either), they will meet the pirate god in pirate heaven
  • edited November 2009
a god in heaven really is childish. ok, in fact believing in any sort of magic is, but fluffy clouds and singing cherubim… noooo! just not right.

neither for the mi series nor for real life (or death)

The neverending cycle is likely all about LeChuck's neverending resurrections, hence how to annihilate him for good.

I think the Voodoo Lady actually worked out the plan how to get rid of LeChuck but it was too scary for Guybrush to know so she involved him without telling him. The plan itself is simple: There are two major goals for LeChuck: killing Guybrush and marrying Elaine. Anyone here seen "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze? A ghost or undead person doesn't die because there's something they need to accomplish before their souls can rest in peace.

Realizing that and having "only the best in mind for Guybrush in the long run" she helped LeChuck to kill him and maybe finally making Elaine his bride. Guybrush doesn't die but remains in the land of the undead where the Voodoo Lady can get in contact with and help him to come back.

I really don't know what to make of the "Pirate god" thing yet. It doesn't really fit anywhere.

I think LeChuck permanently dieing isn't going to be it because how would we know that was it unless they have a second season and he doesn't show up in it in a new form? It has to be something else.... I really think it might be that Monkey Island isn't going to be necessary

    giant monkey pirate god FTW!:)
  • edited November 2009
lol, im guessin theyll just ditch guybrush in randomly chosen pit.
  • edited November 2009
i like action games and movies where the hero is diched in a dirt pit and everyone thinks (s)he is dead. and then the hero arises, builds up some magic/muscles and takes satisfying revenge…
  • edited November 2009
This "neverending cycle" thing has got to me now. Maybe they are referring to Monkey Island, but whatever it is I'm looking forward to finding out!

The theory about LeChuck needing to be put to rest by accomplishing his goals is a good one, too. The only thing is, like others have already said, how would you continue the Monkey Island series after he's out for good?

Hmm... I like that. So far, all the chapters have put you straight into the action, whereas this one probably needs to start a little darker, to follow on from the chapter 4 ending.

Basic franchise rules dictate that you don't kill off the main characters or have them change allegiance, especially after four games. No way is Guybrush or LeChuck going to be gone forever, and no way is Elaine or the voodoo lady turning evil.
  • edited November 2009
Hmm, I like the theory about LeChuck being put to rest, but I still vote that the cycle being broken is Guybrush receiving quests from the Voodoo Lady. I think ToMI will be the last game to use this motif.
  • edited November 2009
ToMI should either end with BAYSPLOSIONS or a DECAPITATION!

I doubt it. Ron Gilbert told me that he (or rather, a studio of his, such as Hothead Games) has to develop another Monkey Island game for the secret to be revealed. If not, the secret will be revealed eventually otherwise. He won't take it to his grave. At least that's what he told me at PAX 2009.

i read that some pepole think that le chuck finaly dies as this is the only thing that has always happened in the games. what do you guys reckon?

As much as I enjoyed LeChuck, he's starting to get tiresome. It's like constantly seeing tom and jerry (the cartoon) fight and jerry always winning. At least give us a new main threat we have to overcome (although he wasn't the brains in MI4....). I'd like going up against someone new. I was rooting for Desinge to be the main villian.
  • edited November 2009
Maybe it'll end with an actual open end and the story will be continued in season 2. This is why TTG cannot talk about season 2 yet - we have to wait for the end of chapter 5.

Yeah, and I'm tired of Guybrush always being the main chara.... Wait what?! LeChuck? You're tired of LeChuck?! What?!
