Yeesh, how do you guys do these? I have to animate something, but I'm doing it the traditional way: drawing on a paper. I've already done the main keyframes, but since I need to convert the thing into a sprite later, I'd appreciate anyone giving me, I dunno, a tip or a specific program or something.

    All excellent, by the way.
  • edited December 2009
I drew mine by hand too. Once I scanned and layered them in order on photoshop I just used the animation features on photoshopcs3 to make the layers into frames.

As for turning it into a sprite, scan it normal, resize it to a small size, resize it again larger, then again to the size you want the sprite to be. The resizing will loose the image quilty and make it spritey. and make sure it has no outline.

did you actually go through the horror that is starting up EMI to make that shot? :P

The more I see EfMI, the more painful it is to see it. The main bother was that Guybrush looks like a gormless chipmunk, or perhaps Hillary Clinton.

What about the third game where he's been stretched out and is anorexic?

I think the 4th model was good, it actually reminded me or guy brush from the first game...the others have not.

I have no problem starting and playing EFMI on my computer.

Man, I keep thinking "EMI wasn't that terrible when I played it, I should play it again just for the hell of it." And then screenshots like those pop up and I get all sad.

I STILL DON'T GET how you guys can think of EMI as a bad game. The controls were different, the graphics were different, but it was still Monkey Island. It was really funny and the soundtrack was f********ing brilliant.

No. No it wasn't. It was boring. I don't get it when people say the soundtrack was good, it wasn't catchy, it didn't have recognizable beats. Monkey Island 2 did.

There was some good stuff in EMI. I especially liked the swamps of time. That was a great puzzle. Ozzie Mandril was a decent villain. "I've got hands to kiss and babies to shake" is one of my favorite lines from the series. The controls didn't bother me when they debuted in Grim Fandango and didn't bother me in EMI. I wasn't even bothered by Monkey Kombat. In fact, I thought the over the top introduction to the final fight was hilarious.

What wasn't cool was the Church of LeChuck, the revamped Mêlée, the fact that the Giant Monkey Head was a giant robot, the fact that Herman Toothrot was Elaine's father, the fact that the game was buggy enough to have Guybrush's description of Toothrot spoil the 'Elaine's father' reveal before it had been revealed, Marco Pollo, Planet Threepwood, the horrible, horrible artwork, and the whole age inconsistency and retconning it introduced. Even Murray's cameo was lame. All in all, the bad stuff was bad enough to remember it and the good stuff was forgettable enough to forget most of it.

Oh hey, I just remembered some more good stuff: walking around with the duck, the caffeïne spasming, and the freak of nature you could build. See, it wasn't all bad, just mostly forgettable. I should just give it another shot, I guess.

My friends and I don't call it "Escape" or "EMI". We actually pronounce it "Eff me", like "EfMI".
The only good thing I can remember from that game was the duck. Other than that, when I think about it, I get a headache.

Michael Land's part (Melee Island) had some good tunes, Outside the Governors Mansion, Talking with Carla and Otis, Meathooks Place, The New Scumm Bar theme. Clints score of the back side of Lucre Island was also good, the Myst of Time, Underwater and Lucre Island Map.

After that however the score took a drop into quickly forgettable, stands out being Stans theme and Knuttin Atoll Town, Knuttion Atoll Map, Knuttin Atoll Beach (Micheal Land). Monkey Island was just easily forgettable and boring. And the Monkey Kombat training made me want to rip my ears off it was that annoying.

I'm totally with you when it comes to the soundtrack. I have the feeling that many people feel it's bad because they connect it to bad memories of the game itself. I have listened to the soundtrack by itself a lot, and have come to realise that it's the game that's the problem, not the soundtrack. Monkey Island... It was the first point in the game I got close to the MI-feeling, much due to the music. There's a few weak tracks, but overall I can't understand how a fan of the CMI-soundtrack could not be a fan of the EMI-soundtrack. If you want forgettable stuff, listen to the TMI-soundtrack.

Oh, and I just forgot to even think about the music of Jambalaya Island. With good reason. I don't care about that island at all, including the music :P Stan's was good though.
