3D or not 3D, that is my question

edited December 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
So after all this has come to an end. I want to ask the question, would anyone like to go back to 2d for any future versions of the game? For me CMI was the best Monkey Island game to date. I think if telltale were to go back to 2d they could possibly make the game even better,
Excellent job guys tho, and if a season 2 is released you can count on my money!

If it was the same style of artwork featured in the paintings and concept art of Tales, sure I'd play it. But unless it moves the series forward I don't want it. I don't want to see the series take a step back.

While I do agree that Curse is my favorite in the whole series (no offense to anyone), I personally like Telltale's visual style, so I would gladly welcome it back with open arms, should there be a new season.

Edit: What Secret Fawful said! Listen to the one with the Frollo avatar. :D

I don't see how one less dimension necessarily makes the game better. My favorite game in the series is LeChuck's Revenge, should we make the next game in the series for the Amiga and DOS operating systems?

It's actually a good deal more expensive to do 2D, and it has a lot of limitations.

I think they used 3D really well in this game. They gave a lot of the scenes a sense of depth, they used camera angles to incredible dramatic and puzzle-solving effect, and the setpieces were able to feel "real", rather than like portions of a painting with layer masks over them.

i don't know, i mean i would play MI3, but not earlier then that. to be honest i think it suits 2d, also times are moving so maybe 3d.

another point is monkey island 1 special edition is a high quality 2d game, i don't really see why they did that, but i guess it makes it more playable to people who played from MI3 onwards such as myself.

2D is hardly a step back, more of an alternative. Anyone seen that Wii game Wario Land? That has some excellent 2D graphics and animation.

If it were 2D it wouldn't be made by Telltale, so no. Do not want.

I would have to respond with a firm "I don't know!" Telltale has done a great job with the 3D, and Lucasarts did a good job with the first 3 Monkey Islands as far as style goes.

I will say though that Telltale's 3D though seems mostly used for camera effects, so I'm not sure I count it as being fully 3D. IE There isn't much interaction in 3D you can do really. There are only certain paths you can go down and you can't like explore the rafters of Club 41 or whatever. Utimately, as long as it's fun, I don't care much. :)

The art styles have been great for all the Monkey Islands, (which is what this is really about right?) so if they make it 2D but screw that up that could be bad too.

I for one will buy the new Season of Tales of Monkey Island when it comes out. :)

He doesn't mean that 2D would be a step back, but rather the way they used it. If they just went back to CoMI style then it would be a step back, as they already did that and they should instead try out other styles.

However, I feel the 3D style is fine, adds more capabilities and prefer it over the CoMI's style anyway. They should progress with 3D (maybe 4D :p ).
