Let's talk plot (spoilers aplenty!!!)

Not sure whether I should still hide my text given the title, but better safe than sorry...

I just want to check I'm up to date on all my Monkey Island plot...
So... 1) The voodoo lady's level of interference has not fully been addressed (has it???!!). I mean, LeChuck's fury at her in RotPG makes me think he believes his revelations about her. So true or not, he certainly thinks she's been manipulating them all. Guybrush seemed ready to trust her again (though possibly just out of necessity). She evaded the issue of her meddling pretty well in TTaEoGT, and the post-credit cut-scene gives her a sinister twist. Has she been manipulating them all? Is she still? Are we even meant to know?

2) Elaine. I mean, huh? In fairness her character has been meddled with the most throughout MI's incarnations. But was that 'I knew it would be alright. I had a plan' stuff weird to anyone else too?

3) Guybrush. Back from the dead. Ummm, how? What happened there? And in one piece again, too (complete with hand, I mean). Anyone come up with plausible plot-logic for this?

4)LeChuck. It's pretty much a given that he's never REALLY dead. But does anyone have any good theories on what Morgan brought the voodoo lady in the post-credit cutscene and why? (Something she can use to reanimate him, I'm guessing. What else is on the table?)

5) We still have no idea what the Secret of Monkey Island is?

    1. Judging from the ending, LeChuck was right that she was manipulating both him and Guybrush for some ulterior motive. What motive? We still don't know. Wait for MI6!

    2. Elaine's always been smart, and it seems that she knew LeChuck was bad from the beginning, but was enchanted to have to work with him. So she helped Guybrush in little ways, like the ring.

    3. That seemed pretty obvious. The spell called for courage, guidance, an anchor and a sacrifice in the caster's name, placed in a ring. Taking it literally, as Guybrush did at first worked, after a fashion, but not completely. Using the wedding ring - which symbolizes all four of those qualities "in a ring," cast the spell as it was designed to be cast, for a true back-from-the-dead experience.

    4. His liquefied remains.

    5. And we probably never will until Ron Gilbert makes another Monkey Island game. Unless you consider "The REAL Secret of Monkey Island" from Escape to be definitive, which most people don't.

Seeing as how Ron had a part to play in this title, and Telltale has a more personal association with him, over Lucasarts. I'm thinking that we might get something sooner or later.

If I were a betting man, I'd say that Telltale would get out at least 3 seasons of Tales of Monkey Island (or whatever next season will be called) & then they might be ready to close the book on MI.

Either that, or maybe the secret just leads to bigger things. Depending on exactly what it is.

    - Also, is there an easy way to get a transcript of that after credits conversation between the Voodoo Lady & Morgan? I can turn subtitles on, but I'd like to be able to read it at my leisure, to fully digest what went down.

    1. Yes please! Gimmie!!

    2. Okay. So she was just mesmerized by him the whole time?

    3. But why with his hand if his hand is not part of his body any more?

    4. Gross.

    5. I don't. And will that man EVER cave in to presure from fans?!?!

    3. But why with his hand if his hand is not part of his body any more?

It either gave him a brand-new body or just completely healed any injuries he had, including dismemberment. Note that there's also no damage from LeChuck beating the crap out of him, or decay from his time as a corpse.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and I don't mean that in a "What's Escape from Monkey Island?" way.

If this happened, then I wonder what happened to Guybrush's old body?

    I think he means
the fact that the giant monkey head is in fact a giant robot monkey.
It's never explicitly claimed to be THE secret of Monkey Island, but it's a pretty considerable fact. Only Ron Giblert knows the secret for sure, of course, but I think this was Lucasarts' way of revealing A big secret so as to give fans a sense of closure if it was to be the last game in the Monkey Island series.

Haha, at this point, I'm pretty sure even Ron Gilbert doesn't know what the Secret of Monkey Island is. It's the whole brunt of the joke that is the original's title. Not sure if we'll ever know.

TOMI turned into the 1st game ever to separate itself from the other Monkey Island series. How? We get plot twist, death of important characters and more importantly a new villain. Theres now and ethereal world and i believe it comes back to MI2 game. Something weird happened there and something weird happened now.

That cross in the carpet of the voodoo lady shack always called my attention but i though it was a crazy theory of mine. But i believe somehow this will connect with the secret. I also believe we should expect another dual release from Lucas Arts and TTG. The ending pretty much says MI is back for good.

If you go into the movie viewer in Escape, the cutscene where the giant monkey robot appears is titled "The REAL Secret of Monkey Island."
