Already said in another topic, but I repeat. Explains them better.
1) 4th and 3rd- All approach of Monkey Island, with a new way to tell the story: The drama. The third was best for clever puzzles and the legendary guest stars: Murray! In the fourth excelled plot, characterization, complex puzzles, and interpretation. I'm excited like a child.
2) 5th - Less brilliant as an AG, but incredibly addictive. Evocative atmosphere, perfect music, emotion. It is without doubt the best chapter in plot. it's nice after 20 years we still do have questions about a final (same feeling as when I finished mi2)
3) 2nd-What about The Siege Of The Spinner Cay? Fantastic. Finally a bit of fantasy stuff !! I loved a lot Spinner Cay, and his music. And I loved so much the enigma of a verbal SCUMM with LeChuck. How many laughs!
4) 1st-This is still a ranking of excellence. I like all the episodes. Launch of the Screaming Narwhal is the perfect start, the beginning of doubt, the beginning of history, the beginning of the betrayals. However, seeing the other episodes, is what remains less in the heart, but it is a wonderful episode!
Monkey Island 2 is the game of 10. Tomi is the game of 9.5 (or 9.9 :P )
1st=Chapter 4: The best episode of the Season. The feast for the senses was a lovely accumulation mission, and the different skills involved in each one were great. Varied, exciting, a great plot and some fantastic characters, including the double personality Grindstump and Stan! Plus, the cliffhanger was incredible.
2nd=Chapter 3: The puzzles were fun but challenging. We had the face pulling and the manatee phrase book, two of the best bits in the whole series. Impressing the four members, while not a new concept, was challenging and just didn't get boring. To top it all, this episode was LONG, and it took me over a day to complete (with breaks and not hurrying).
3rd=Chapter 5: What a fantastic ending. It was a great episode, and very close to chapter 3 in terms of how much I enjoyed it. My experience of the final puzzle was ruined by a terrible graphics card, but the plot was fantastic and the resolution was great to watch. The characters all came through at the end, and the next season was set up perfectly. Many of the puzzles were rather easy, but it didn't seem to matter, unlike episode 2. And Galeb was class.
4th=Chapter 1: This set up the season well, and as the very first ToMI chapter it was a pretty good knock. I played this one three times in a week(because i had no other newish MI to play at the time) and it didn't get boring, but even on the first play i felt that the world was nearly explorable enough. The new characters were good but not memorable, apart from the fantastic Van Winslow and the spooky De Singe, but the former only really came into his own later in the game.
5th=Chapter 2: This episode didn't catch my attention like any of the others, and the new characters were far too similar to those of the first chapter. The puzzles were simple, mostly because there weren't any superfluous characters. There were two redeeming factors. Morgan, and the Le Chuck adventure game puzzle. Don't get me wrong, it was still a great Piratey Romp, but not even close to the rest of the season.
i played the first episode when it came out, so it has been a while. have to replay, can’t tell.
it is funny to imagine the icons instead of the chapter numbers. so if somebody likes 5 most, lechuck is at the top, …
it may have nothing to do with the real preferences, but you get to know most of morgan in ch. 3 and ch. 3 has her icon.
I prefered the 5 one. The atmosphere, the characters, the plot (come on we even got to play as ghost guybrush and zombie guybrush !) the music, the art... Well I loved it. Even thought he was way too logical. (and thus, too easy)
Then the chapter 4. Then 3 > 1 > 2
I hated the second one, all those "go there and come back, then go there again" pissed the hell out of me. (in the other episodes too as well, but it was just too much in the second one. It took too long)
3. Great characters, all of them, and a fresh feeling of making progress compared to #2.
5. Bloody great storyline, but the puzzles kinda felt like stalling material sometimes... Loved the ghost<=>zombie mechanic A LOT, though. Awesome atmosphere.
4. The toughest puzzles, and a very pleasant atmosphere generally.
1. Nice start of a great series, though I was kind of disappointed with how the pace dropped after LeChuck turned human.
2. As I said, kinda felt like a filler. But fun characters and jokes anyway!
None of the first four episodes are better than each other, but the 5th part is by far the worse. Think they could of done more with the story and puzzles. The last seemed too easy and very watered down.
I didn't like 2 that much - it felt like the locations were largely boring (a bunch of tiny, empty islands, a mermaid village that consisted of about 3 screens, and a relatively empty jungle island), and the episode had the most blatent model reuse of any of the episodes (one merfolk model and about two pirate models, aside from the main cast.. that's kind of lame). And overall the puzzles weren't that interesting (and I still don't get why I had to throw the melted gold off the cliff vs. just walking up to the model, seemed unintuative). Add in bad audio compression problems (which were fixed, but did exist when I played it), and that's why it goes to the end for me. I will give them credit for the "USE ___ WITH ___" jokes
I felt 3 was all around the most balanced - excellent locations, clever puzzles, great plot, and of course, the best end credits of any episode!
4 & 5 are very close, but 5 wins out slightly for being the conclusion and just having an awesome story.
1 wasn't actually that bad, but it felt very basic. That's ok because it had to introduce everything, but overall it felt very traditional vs. some of the cool stuff done in future episodes.
5th Chapter: I loved this so much, it felt perfect to me.
4th Chapter: A close second, Monkey Island grew up a little and I loved it.
3rd Chapter: Loved being inside a different location than just an island... and the ending left us with an impatient month afterwards!
1st Chapter: A good start, really polished and fun... yet tame compared to what followed.
2nd Chapter: By no means a bad episode... I just didn't like some of the more obtuse puzzles and the locations felt a bit restricted to me. A slight step back for me from chapter 1.
My review scores?
Chapter 1: 9 out of 10
Chapter 2: 8 out of 10
Chapter 3: 9.5 out of 10
Chapter 4: 10 out of 10
Chapter 5: 11 out of 10 (its basically 10 out of 10 before anyone goes nuts again :-P The 11 is to show how much it blew me away after the already amazing chapter 4...)
5 (Story, feeling, and it felt the longest episode for me. Made well up for the increased walking and the small amount of re-use/repitition crawling up)
3 (Very nice locations, cast and puzzles. Also; more murray!)
2 (A general improvement upon episode 1. Not so much a fan of the fishpeople but overall liked it a lot. The LeChuck puzzle was totally awesome!)
4 (a dip in the season after the great 3, fortunately not set forth for the finale. Didn't really pulled the story forwards as much as the other until the very end, and generally didn't feel as funny as other episodes)
1 (Not that bad, it's just that it pales in comparison to all other episodes. Which is good, we wouldn't want TTG to decline instead of improve, no? Also overall the episode with the most annoying puzzles (had to see a walkthrough for one and it literally took me half a hour to figure I could make DeSinge's chair get horizontal to actually do anything to solve my situation))
It just got better and better as the season went on! All episodes were absolutely excellent but Rise of the Pirate God ended up on top. Narwhal does NOT deserve to be placed in last but, as I said, the episodes just got increasingly better - which caused Narwhal to be ranked 5th.
Though I haven't played through any of them again since release so I'm basing it from memory. Generally, I think they got better and better as they progressed, but I seem to recall not having as much fun with the second. Although I may have just been tired, as I wanted to complete it in one sitting.
Comments
No idea. Loved them all for their own reasons.
I'll replay them all a few times and come back with my order sometime in the future...
Nice to see some love for 2 : )
I can beat the Phoenix Wright games blindfolded so I was pretty disappointed in #4.
I love good puzzles, but I find the storytelling even more important.

Without giving it much detailed thought, just inital gut feeling.

My thoughts exactly.
Yep, that's me!
Anyway
4>5>3>2>1

eek
Trial and Execution
Rise of the Pirate God
Siege of Spinner Cay
Launch of the Screaming Narwahl
Also, they're "chapters", not "episodes"... pet peeve
But all of them were great entertainment.
1. = 4th - Lovely Dark atmosphere and Dramatic Storyline,
and also the best puzzles in the Series.
2. = 5th - Also Dark and Dramatic, greatest MI-final since MI2!
3. = 3th - Funny Challenge and the Best Murray i`ve ever seen!
4. = 1th - Good start in the Series
5. = 2th - Great Episode too, some Fantasy stuff, why not?!
So the whole Season was GREAT! And i would place it
after MI1 & MI2 to the third best MI-Game i`ve ever seen...
I agree, I don't fully know why either, they're all great, but there was some weird stuff that made 2 less likable than the others.

Season 2 can only get so gooooooooooooooooooooooood
